Zipping up a dress that's a little too tight?

Please help! I have the dress of my dreams but it won't zip up! It's almost there though!!!

Any tips on getting it up? Sad

Shape wear?
Don’t eat?
Don’t breathe?
Buy a bigger size?

DramaAlpaca · 02/08/2024 21:07

I'd be worried that if you manage to zip it up, you won't be able to get the zip down again and you'll get stuck in the dress...

NowImNotDoingIt · 02/08/2024 21:08

Depends where it gets stuck .

VaddaABeetch · 02/08/2024 21:08

Don’t do what a friend did at a do. Zipped in & gave up & parted company from the dress

StoneTheCrone · 02/08/2024 21:10

Remove the zip and add a lace-up to the back, leaving room to breath.

justbeingasmartarse · 02/08/2024 21:12

Can you get a bigger size?

VaddaABeetch · 02/08/2024 21:19

If it’s too tight it’s also going to be horribly uncomfortable after a few drinks & a meal

Drink loads of water & shapewear?

TERFtown · 02/08/2024 21:47

Why drink water?

goingdownfighting · 02/08/2024 21:51

Shapewear! Eat only potein and drink only water and peppermint/fennel tea.

Also wear is the zip, anyway you can discreetly leave it open (pin it in position though)? Like long hairstyle? Or as PP Sugeested panelling it somehow?

Gcsunnyside23 · 02/08/2024 21:52

How far away is it from zipping up? And where is it struggling the most? Drink peppermint tea for bloat

FakeMiddleton · 02/08/2024 21:55

Not healthy but... it's an emergency, so;

  • no water (people saying to chug it are wrong. That only works if you drink lots of water and then cut 48 hours before something. You're too late for this)
  • nil by mouth
  • sauna
  • a diuretic
Wallabyone · 02/08/2024 21:59

Put a wire hanger through the zip and hoist it up-if it's only a little on the snug side then it will go up.

UnashamedLabelHo · 02/08/2024 22:03

Assuming it’s only a bit tight, you need two female friends who get zips. One to hold the two sides parallel and close together (sometimes just holding the top will do) and another to slide the zip up. Hard to do it yourself and men IME don’t get it the mechanics.

Cally102 · 02/08/2024 22:03

If there is a hook and eye at the top do that first.

TERFtown · 02/08/2024 21:47

Why drink water?

Drinking water will reduce water retention

rookiemere · 02/08/2024 22:24

Where is the zip stuck and by how much ?

coffeeaddict83 · 02/08/2024 22:31

If only a tiny bit too tight try breathing out every bit of air in your lungs first to minimise your rib cage. Plus the 2 friends idea, or a DP if no one else available, so you aren't reaching. If it works do check you can move and sit and raise your arms normally etc before committing to wearing it. And that you are confident it won't split.

Littleguggi · 02/08/2024 22:31

Some of the advice on here is shocking - basically starve yourself, only drink water or don't drink any water, take a diuretic. No wonder eating disorders are on the rise! My advice would be to find something else to wear! Unless you want to be miserable from the lack of dietary and fluid intake!

Indeed

Notquitethere60 · 02/08/2024 22:35

Accept it’s too tight and wear something else that fits you

HaveToStopTheWorld · 02/08/2024 22:38

Wear something comfortable and enjoy the event. If you can't breathe, or you're starved or massively dehydrated then you will have a miserable time. Also, if you force the zip it might split at an inopportune moment.

Lovemybunnies · 02/08/2024 22:39

Spanx or equivalent will make the difference.

Idabelle · 02/08/2024 22:41

Epsom salt bath works for me if it's just a tiny bit too tight.
