I need a large bag like a Longchamp Pliage

But larger! Not to replace a suitcase but to put all my things I need for the plane - passports, magazines, toiletries, flip flops, headrest etc. I've tried using my large Pliage on the plane but it isn't quite big enough. I'd like something durable and well-made

I swear by this for flights, it’s lightweight but strong, fits in everything I could possibly need and can be squished under the seat in front. I’ve had it for almost a decade and it still looks new.

I have the zip pliage bag that you can make larger by undoing the zip. It won’t be the dimensions for the plane though. I now use Kanken bag . It fits a lot and goes under the seat in front.

This is the one I have and take it on the plane all the time

I have a MiaTui handbag and it's gorgeous. Really well designed. Can generally recommend and I am not a bag person.

I've seen people say on other bag threads that Mia Tui representatives pop up on these types of thread to advertise the bags, but no idea if that's true! Not accusing you in particular @Crucible I just find it odd that these bags are so often recommended on MN, but I've never seen anyone out in the wild with one!

Restricting · 29/07/2024 21:52

@RampantIvy
I have the canvas type material, I'm not a big fan of their pleather, it's very plastic.

RampantIvy · 29/07/2024 22:03

Thank you @Restricting
Do you know if it is waterproof? I don't like pleather either.

£9 in M&S. Accidentally my most favourite bag ever. Huge, lightweight, colourful with 2 handle types (long and short) - comfortable to carry. It zips so everything is contained, and there’s in internal pocket.

It was an impulse buy with my food shop because I needed another carrier bag and this one was so gorgeous. Now it’s my everyday bag.

Not fully tested, but I'm pretty sure it would be waterproof, or at least water resistant.

@OolongTeaDrinker not a problem, I had little to add to the thread as I'm not a big bag fan - but I love something that is practical and works for me - I'll shout about that all day long. Promise on Scouts honour I'm not a MiaTui mole.
I would like to get my nieces really good travel bags for Christmas - they're at the age to really start travelling and this is a useful thread.

I've always noticed on these s&b threads that the styling service at John Lewis keeps coming up as a suggestion, even when it doesn't seem at all appropriate to the question - I reckon there, JL are popping up themselves....🧐

Accessorize has a big one

RampantIvy · 30/07/2024 17:24

@OolongTeaDrinker I'm getting ads for these on my Facebook feed now.

Like the OP I don't fetishise bags either - I don't get why some women want to pay a four figure sum for something just to carry stuff around in, for example. However, I like the practicality that this bag offers and might just ask for one for my birthday.

Surely there are expensive things you enjoy. A luxury car? A luxury holiday? Expensive shoes? Organic food?

Surely no one out there is living with the bare minimum basic version of everything even when they can afford more ?

RampantIvy · 31/07/2024 07:30

Surely there are expensive things you enjoy.

A luxury car? No, unaffordable. Decent quality yes but not luxury.
A luxury holiday? Not luxury, but not low end
Expensive shoes? No. I don't understand why expensive shoes get some women so excited. Besides I can't wear most shoes due to arthritis and flat feet.

Organic food? No, but I am not a cheapskate when it comes to food. I will pay more for things like tomatoes because they taste better. We drink good wine because it tastes better. On the rare occasion we eat meat I will buy it from the local butcher because it is free range and I know the provenance of it.

Why not get a classic Brics like this one? In your budget too www.wardow.com/uk/brics-x-collection-tote-bag-bxg45070-050-uk.html

When I clicked on the link it had a pop up for 15% off first purchase which brings it down to £204!

RosesAndHellebores · 02/08/2024 17:43

Is it a transatlantic flight if you need a headrest. Aren't there inflatable ones.

I'm trying to work out why you need anything bigger than a standard pliage and why you need flip flops.

Book, wallet, keys, passport, travel docs, water, lipstick, small sun lotion, phone, charging block, ear pods.

Sunseeker100 · 02/08/2024 18:01

@SagittariusUprising I've had my finger on 'buy now' on the MZ Wallace Metro tote for a couple of months but I'm still trying to decide between the large and medium. I do want a tote for planes, hence following this thread, but it would be nice if I could use the same bag for long work days when I need to do train travel.

Would you say the large is really massive? I do love large bags but trying not yo end up with something really cumbersome.

I've had a lot of the bags mentioned on this thread before but fancy something new for my upcoming holiday ☺️

wondabar · 02/08/2024 21:19

@RosesAndHellebores believe you me, I have tried to make do with Pliage but always have more than it can take. I tend to take long haul flights and like some flip flops for the plane as my feet swell too much for the likes of trainers or closed shoes which I tend to need to wear when departing London. Having lost my suitcase on a recent flight with all my meds and contact lenses in, I now travel with these and they usually take up two pouches. And I like to take a pashmina or something if the plane gets cold. Plus mags, passports, IPad and sometimes computer and a few of the bits that you mention.

I have both the large and the medium 🙈 The medium is perfect for work: fits a laptop, books, notepads. But, it’s more of a day bag. The large I use for plane journeys and weekends away. It’s a really good size (I put clothes for me and both kids in it for a couple of days recently), but because of the material, it is also very light and if it’s not fully packed doesn’t seem so big if that makes sense! A friend uses her large for day-to-day as well.

Sunseeker100 · 03/08/2024 14:30

@SagittariusUprising thank you! Large it is ☺️ Great thread OP!
