Jumper

I'm not particularly sweaty but I change my tops every day as well as underwear. Jeans & trousers I will wear for 3-4 days.
My tops are mainly light colours & I invariably spill stuff down them. I'm a master at stain removal ... employing fairy liquid or sunlight.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 13/07/2024 21:26

Everything bar knickers and socks.

GoingRate · 13/07/2024 21:27

Nothing but outerwear - coats, maybe a cardi or blazer if I can keep it clean.

Otherwise everything is wash after one wear.

Anything except knickers is fair game.

S0livagant · 13/07/2024 21:29

Anything except pants and cotton socks. I wear wool socks two days in winter.

LegoTherapy · 13/07/2024 21:30

Knickers and socks here too. I am quite sweaty and do a lot of walking up and down hills so I do tend to wear a clean tshirt daily if it's in contact with my pits. PJs might be daily on extra sweaty nights due to the weather or hormones but usually 2 nights.

suburburban · 13/07/2024 21:30

I would have to change my tops daily if working, always have done

They get sweaty and trousers sometimes daily as they can smell round the crotch

Skirts last longer

LuluBlakey1 · 13/07/2024 21:40

Anything except knickers. As long as it is clean and does not smell I will re-wear it. I wouldn't wear anything stained or smelly. I don't seem to have smelly sweat or don't sweat much. My feet never smell.

DH would need to change underwear, socks and shirt/t-shirt every day.

ForGreyKoala · 13/07/2024 22:07

Everything except knickers, tights, and socks. I don't understand this wear something once and throw it in the wash mentality. I'm not in the UK but we see advice on TV here telling people that clothes don't need washing after every wear. My clothes don't smell after a day's wear, even in summer, I suggest those whose do should look for a better deodorant.

lairyfights9 · 13/07/2024 22:17

Trousers, bras, jumpers (any outer layer). So basically always fresh knickers, socks and tops

Mum2jenny · 13/07/2024 22:21

Knickers, socks, t shirts must be washed after every wear imo. Jeans/ trousers are good for a week, similarly fleeces/ jumpers. Don’t know about dresses/ skirts as I do not wear them!

You wash jumpers after a week? Wool jumpers? Why?

Fizbosshoes · 14/07/2024 08:46

I'd consider wearing most things more than once if they weren't dirty, sweaty or smelly. (Socks, knickers and sportswear washed after one wear)

PeachyKeane · 14/07/2024 08:47

I rarely wash anything of mine except underwear. I tend to air things after I've worn them, and have house clothes and going out clothes. I change a lot, am very clean and don't sweat so there's no need to unnecessarily wash things imo.

moggerhanger · 14/07/2024 08:49

Pants and socks are single wear. But anything else gets worn until it no longer passes the sniff test, or is visibly marked.

BigDahliaFan · 14/07/2024 08:50

Since menopause I’ve found it harder to wear things twice….I just sweat more….

GoingRate · 14/07/2024 09:24

Everyone is different. I’m extremely sensitive to smells, so I generally tend to wear most clothes only once before washing as I can pick up food smells, traces of yesterday’s perfume etc even after airing.

I can also smell other people’s clothes when I’m commuting on the tube, and I just don’t like that smell of worn clothes.

It’s a bit like day or two old unwashed hair. It’s not ‘disgusting’ and I’m not going to berate someone for doing it, but I just don’t like that smell on other people or myself.

Wildermess · 14/07/2024 09:42

I guess this merges into the division between people who keep their ‘out of the house’ clothes on when they get home?

I was brought up to take off my school uniform as soon as I returned home, and change into home clothes. So the uniform stuff had time to be aired and re-ironed if necessary. That’s carried on through student days and adulthood - clothes worn for work or other activities are removed and sorted out, and home clothes can be worn repeatedly before needing to be laundered.

So I’m always fascinated by threads here full of people who make no such distinction (I can understand it if you never leave your car, but if you travel on the Tube or work in a populous town / city …) but find their leisure time filled with endless laundry.

CheeseMakesMyHeartMelt · 14/07/2024 11:22

I wouldn't happily wear anything again and going off the number of truly smelly people I encounter when I'm out a lot of other people shouldn't trust the sniff test either.
I find myself having to hold my breath more and more often as I walk past people as the smell of BO is overwhelming.
I don't believe I have a particularly strong sense of smell so how these people haven't noticed they stink is beyond me.
I am definitely not saying anyone on this thread smells, just that I wouldn't trust my own nose so things get washed!

Bananalanacake · 14/07/2024 11:28

Everything apart pants.

RitaAndFrank · 14/07/2024 11:29

Anything but underwear.

ItMustBeNiceToBeQueen · 14/07/2024 11:36

Currently sat in clothes that I’ve been re wearing since late Friday afternoon, jeans, t shirt, hoodie-although different underwear, that’s always clean.
I wasn’t out yesterday and haven’t been cooking in the clothes so they are still nice smelling.
The hoodie actually has a bit of melted chocolate on it from yesterdays Crunchie, but I’m not out anywhere today either so no one will see it. I have just added butter to it by dropping my toasted teacake so it will all go in the wash basket later.

good point @Wildermess I think that’s why my at home clothes can be reworn so much.

clothes worn for work or other activities are removed and sorted out, and home clothes can be worn repeatedly before needing to be laundered.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/07/2024 11:36

The people you can smell out and about are not people who are wearing their t shirt or trousers a second day but people with deep personal hygiene issues.

The recent ease and cheapness of washing clothes means a lot of people have forgotten (or not be taught) other clothes care skills. Hang stuff up and air it after wearing, spot clean spills or stains, wear things like slips and camisoles under delicate or harder to clean items to keep them fresher for longer.

As sell as being a pointless waste of time and bad for the environment, relentless frequent washing is not good or clothes, particularly those made from natural fibres.

JohnBetjeman · 14/07/2024 11:42

Hear, hear. Most posters are sensible but I'm amazed at those who regularly wash jumpers.
