Taking off heels due to floor damage

aieilcln · 13/07/2024 07:10

Would you take off your heels at someone's house or other location if your worn down heels were damaging the wooden floor? Say it is a shoes- on event where you will be the only one without shoes on, but your stilettos are worn down to the metal nail. I love wearing my heeled boots everywhere and often do not have time to fix the heel tips.

This can't be real. But it's still making me anxious!

RampantIvy · 20/07/2024 18:43

Our school used to ask parents not to wear stiletto-heeled shoes for events in the school

So did DD's primary school. A not unreasonable request.

Besides, who wears stilettos these days anyway?

Bignanna · 20/07/2024 18:44

aieilcln · 20/07/2024 17:29

No

So brazen, inconsiderate and selfish!

RampantIvy · 20/07/2024 18:46

Even if I had stiletttos (which I can't walk in anyway) I wouldn't wear them to someone's house. Who does that?

Breadcat24 · 20/07/2024 18:56

We had someone walk on our wood floor with stilletto boots that had lost the rubber bit so were just studs- wrecked it

ditalini · 20/07/2024 18:57

Oh if they were your favourite boots then that's alright then.

What a very strange, antisocial thing to do. Do you make a habit of going about damaging other people's property because "my favourite"?

I was at my friend's brother's house and was wearing my favorite heeled boots, and did not want to be the only one looking silly barefoot.

How would you have looked silly being barefoot?
At least the floor would have been alright

Divebar2021 · 20/07/2024 18:59

I’m having flashbacks to the 80’s when I wore some very spindly black patent stilettos and probably wore those down to a nail head. I can’t say I see anyone wearing them nowadays ( plus it’s July) so I guess you must be in a different hemisphere as well as a time traveller. Maybe get them re-heeled and do all the home owners a favour.

RivkaTheBold · 20/07/2024 19:32

What a horrible thing to do.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 20/07/2024 20:00

I did this unknowingly back in the 80s and BF mom stopped me at the door and demanded I took them off at the door in future.
Back then I often had to find money on 're heeling' stilletoes, now I would just throw them away.

MiriamMay · 20/07/2024 20:03

Don’t be surprised if you don’t get invited again.

Yes you do. Everyone has time to do want matters to them. Just get the heels repaired. It's not safe to walk with heels with metal exposed like that anyway as it has no grip. You'll slip and snap your ankle.

Exactly! It's not like it's a daily, or even weekly, job. It's twice yearly at most.

I get you didn't wanna be the only one not wearing shoes but was anyone else wearing stilettos? If that's your choice to wear them, fine, but also in wearing them, need to understand that type of heel can cause damage to floors. I personally don't think anyone should wear shoes in peoples homes, full stop.

One other girl was wearing stiletto sandals but those were not worn to the nail.

You knowingly stamped nails into somebody’s floor all night. Nothing you say will excuse your behaviour. Literally nothing.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/07/2024 12:09

Mairzydotes · 13/07/2024 09:48

I remember in the 80s, certain premises like stately homes and castles had signs forbidding people from wearing stilletoes in them due to the damage they could cause.

Surely, if someone's heels are worn down they look unkempt. Even if people aren't looking at other people's feet , they can tell by the noise.

They still do in many places.

Fucking twattish behaviour….you would be dead to me if you did this in my house….even if you were family…..we all wear shoes in my house….if you brought dog shit into my house by accident it wouldn’t be an issue…..I mop my floors daily…..but your behaviour would be unforgivable

My sister in law did this to my wooden floors. She is quite large and her pointy heels left indentations all over the place. I didn’t challenge her because she’s very reactive but I feel cross when I look at the marks.

You don’t seem too bothered if you have caused damage or upset. That will have been noticed along with the marks you left but that might not bother you either.

I wouldn’t have given a shit how reactive she is….she would have found out that day how reactive I could be…..she would never have been invited to my home again….people who wear stilettos know the risks to flooring….they are just cunts for not taking their shoes off at someone’s home or wearing different shoes instead

Bignanna · 28/07/2024 16:36

OP- explain why you didn’t care about damaging the floor!

angieloumc · 28/07/2024 16:59

OP you're a dickhead.

LoobyDoop2 · 28/07/2024 17:51

Apart from anything else, you must have looked a lot more foolish in tacky, falling-to-bits boots in the middle of summer than you would have done in bare feet. And why would they have been bare anyway? Weren’t you wearing socks? Your feet must smell awful 🤮

BPinCT · 28/07/2024 20:07

Dropped by a friend's the other day. The sandals I was wearing occasionally leave a mark on hardwood floors. Not permanent damage, just a scuff that can be wiped away easily. Regardless, I still left them in the foyer. And yes, I was the only one shoeless

I do care, just less than how much I care about not looking tacky barefoot.

My feet smelling was another big reason I did not take them off. Now in the winter I wear socks but I don't like walking in socks either when everyone else is in shoes.

You should have left the party and used the time to maintain your footwear. Don't go to events if you can't dress in appropriate footwear with clean feet. You don't make time to repair your shoes but you expect them to now make time (and expense) to repair their floor?

fallingupwards · 21/02/2025 06:38

Why am I replying to this, it's an old thread? I hope the floor and shoes are all repaired by now!
