Taking off heels due to floor damage

aieilcln · 13/07/2024 07:10

Would you take off your heels at someone's house or other location if your worn down heels were damaging the wooden floor? Say it is a shoes- on event where you will be the only one without shoes on, but your stilettos are worn down to the metal nail. I love wearing my heeled boots everywhere and often do not have time to fix the heel tips.

When I was young parquet flooring was quite common. Everyone understood that one couldn't wear damaging stilettos on the wooden surface.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/07/2024 01:06

So because you ‘don’t have time’ to heel your boots and ‘don’t want to look silly’ you’d rather risk causing hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of damage? You wouldn’t feel sillier about that? Ridiculously selfish if real.

LiterallyOnFire · 14/07/2024 01:07

Why would you look "silly" by being shoeless in a friend's home anyway? It's not like it's a ball or something.

How selfish. Your self esteem issues are not the host's problem to pay for!

HeddaGarbled · 14/07/2024 01:25

Bit daft to have a floor people can’t walk on though.

Tezza1 · 14/07/2024 04:50

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon Add a lengthy flamenco dance as well. Lots of lovely heel action.

smooththecat · 14/07/2024 05:00

It’s not only worn down heels that cause damage to wood.

Edingril · 14/07/2024 05:03

Why would you wear shoes that would cause damage?

Our school used to ask parents not to wear stiletto-heeled shoes for events in the school. All mums complied even though it was the 80’s and literally that was all that mums wore. Imagine that now - you’d have people claiming it was an infringement on their rights to express themselves blah blah blah.

Or like this poster - I simply don’t have time to go to Timpsons and wait 10mins whilst they reheel my shoes but even though I’m bringing attention to myself by sheer noise alone, I simply cannot be thoughtful and prevent damage to someone else’s property…

More a thought for another board, but when did we become a nation when self-entitlement trumps general decency?

I was at my friend's brother's house and was wearing my favorite heeled boots, and did not want to be the only one looking silly barefoot.

Fix your shoes!!!

I used to always keep a spare pair of shoes at the office in case I needed to get the heels replaced.

It is pure laziness walking around with broken shoes purely because they are your favourite.

rwalker · 14/07/2024 06:05

Please tell me you took them off

Please tell me you took them off

I didn't.

@aieilcln I hope your friends brother sends you a bill to get his floor sorted after you selfish behaviour! I can't believe how disrespectful you are

GettingStuffed · 14/07/2024 18:57

My mum used to point to the hole in my gran's parquet where her stiletto went through.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 14/07/2024 19:08

I can’t imagine walking around with broken shoes on.

Obviously we’re in a CoL Crisis so I’m not going to ask why you don’t buy a new pair but surely they’re mendable? Or is that expensive too?

It makes me really sad that people have to live like this in 2024. Sounds like Dickens.

Could you buy some foam balls to pop onto the bottom?

Sillystrumpet · 14/07/2024 19:09

Blimey.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 14/07/2024 19:11

Squash balls might work!

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 14/07/2024 19:11

Are you regretting that now, @aieilcln ?

As you get older you realise that taking your shoes off to look after someone’s floor doesn’t make you look silly.

What did they say when they realised? Were they angry?

@KeirSpoutsTwaddle i don't get the impression that @aieilcln cares.

I feel a bit guilty about damaging the floor, and I do not know their reaction as no one has contacted me about it.

SD1978 · 15/07/2024 06:47

So you knew your shoes were damaging the floor, and kept doing it? I would not be inviting you to anywhere, ever again

Mumofyellows · 15/07/2024 06:51

Wow. Of course you should take them off, why even wear them in the first place if they are that worn out? I hope you plan to apologise and cover any costs for repairs, even if they don't approach you it is on you to offer.

Overthebow · 15/07/2024 06:55

You knew you were damaging their floor but didn’t want to take your shoes off in case you felt silly being barefoot? Yabvu. That is really selfish.

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 15/07/2024 11:04

You can buy heel tips online and do the repair yourself if you can't wait the time for a cobbler to repair them. I'd be livid with you, and now knowing that you did know you have caused the damage, I'm just stunned.

Justcashnosweets · 15/07/2024 11:08

I hope they send you the repair bill. So incredibly selfish and entitled.
