Taking off heels due to floor damage

aieilcln · 13/07/2024 07:10

Would you take off your heels at someone's house or other location if your worn down heels were damaging the wooden floor? Say it is a shoes- on event where you will be the only one without shoes on, but your stilettos are worn down to the metal nail. I love wearing my heeled boots everywhere and often do not have time to fix the heel tips.

Our school used to ask parents not to wear stiletto-heeled shoes for events in the school. All mums complied even though it was the 80’s and literally that was all that mums wore. Imagine that now - you’d have people claiming it was an infringement on their rights to express themselves blah blah blah.

Or like this poster - I simply don’t have time to go to Timpsons and wait 10mins whilst they reheel my shoes but even though I’m bringing attention to myself by sheer noise alone, I simply cannot be thoughtful and prevent damage to someone else’s property…

More a thought for another board, but when did we become a nation when self-entitlement trumps general decency?

Covid

Seriously.

It has well documented neurological effects. So a swathe of the public have cognitive damage (polite was of saying "have become a bit stupid"). And the number will rise for as long as everyone is happy to ignore it whilst also catching it 2 or 3 times a year (as the risk repeats, and might even worsen, with each infection; there's no evidence to support that it reduces)

Treelichen · 15/07/2024 11:12

So you would damage someone's floor because you are too lazy to fix your heels??

gravitytester · 15/07/2024 12:52

I'd be livid, and not inviting you anywhere again, tbh.

Just get them re-heeled if you love them that much. Heels look awful when they're like that.

That’s interesting. I do know that when I had it my entire head and every single hair follicle was on fire.

I can't imagine wearing any sort of shoes that would cause damage to someone's flooring or carpeting. I have been at gatherings where I felt compelled to leave my shoes in the foyer so as to not damage the floors.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/07/2024 17:29

Look up 'heel protectors for stiletto shoes' on Amazon.

(I couldn't get the link to work.)

quockerwodger · 19/07/2024 17:38

I wouldn't even consider wearing heels that have worn to the point they'd damage flooring, I'd wear different shoes and get the heels repaired or replaced.

JustPleachy · 19/07/2024 17:40

Are you going to contact them and offer to pay for the damage @aieilcln ?

DrFoxtrot · 19/07/2024 17:58

Aside from the damage they've caused, do they not look worn down and tatty? Why would you want to wear boots that look like that?!

Growlybear83 · 19/07/2024 18:16

I can still remember how heartbroken my mum was when some selfish girls at a party my brother threw in our brand new house didn't take off their stilettos and ruined the new wood flooring.

mitogoshi · 19/07/2024 18:17

I wouldn't wear shoes in someone's house anyway and i wouldn't knowingly wear shoes that were damaging floors whoever they belonged to

StormingNorman · 19/07/2024 18:22

What a cock! You knowingly damaged and kept on damaging someone’s floor because you didn’t want to look silly. The very least you can do is reach out, apologise and offer to pay for the damage.

nocoolnamesleft · 19/07/2024 18:58

My parents never insisted on people taking shoes off in their house. But I remember when they'd had the kitchen done (having saved up for ages) and my aunt pranced around it in her fucking stilettos, and trashed the floor. After she left, my mum cried. And no, they couldn't afford to replace the damage. You could still see the holes a decade later. So I'm voting that you're fucking selfish.

I am exactly the same way, when I visit I generally go shoeless

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 13/07/2024 07:13

No, I’d leave them on to cause maximum damage.

Then I’d shit on their favourite rug.

😂😂😂😂😂

mummyrolling2014 · 20/07/2024 01:38

I get you didn't wanna be the only one not wearing shoes but was anyone else wearing stilettos? If that's your choice to wear them, fine, but also in wearing them, need to understand that type of heel can cause damage to floors. I personally don't think anyone should wear shoes in peoples homes, full stop.

CheeseMakesMyHeartMelt · 20/07/2024 07:06

This is why no-one wears shoes in my house! Clearly people cannot be trusted to make adult decisions so the decision is made for them.

Well you are a right peach aren’t you? Take a good long look at yourself .

Wontletmeusemynormalname · 20/07/2024 17:33

Have you actually damaged the floor???

ClydeBank · 20/07/2024 17:46

My sister in law did this to my wooden floors. She is quite large and her pointy heels left indentations all over the place. I didn’t challenge her because she’s very reactive but I feel cross when I look at the marks.

You don’t seem too bothered if you have caused damage or upset. That will have been noticed along with the marks you left but that might not bother you either.

Martinohmygod · 20/07/2024 17:51

You self important nincompoop. You should really pay for the damage.

Maddy70 · 20/07/2024 18:12

My bet is your friendship is forever damaged

usersuserse · 20/07/2024 18:24

Yes you do. Everyone has time to do want matters to them. Just get the heels repaired. It's not safe to walk with heels with metal exposed like that anyway as it has no grip. You'll slip and snap your ankle.

Buildingthefuture · 20/07/2024 18:30

I would never ask people to take their shoes off to come in my house, I find that rude. Plus, I have tiles and dogs so nothing much could actually happen. HOWEVER if you know your shoes are going to damage my floor? Take the fuckers off!!!! Immediately!
Why on earth would you think it’s ok to damage someone else’s property???
