Please help! Is this coat awful?!!

My DH keeps taking fun out of me for this coat. He thinks it serves no purpose as it's not waterproof. It's not thick to cover winter days. It's too long and I look like a doctor doing surgery!!!

He has no idea where I'd wear it to and thinks it looks really weird what do you think? I'm not sure whether to return it.

I don't like it - not for any of his reasons but just not keen on the style (I usually like arket stuff) and I think the colour suits almost no one!

Not keen myself, what would you wear it with? Weird length, meh colour no belt so unflattering shape. Not for me.

Is your DH very interested in fashion?

My DH likes Echo shoes and buys his entire wardrobe from M&S. He values waterproof, breathable outdoor wear. I dislike Echo shoes, I only buy underwear from M&S and it wouldn't cross my mind to assess a new coat on its breathability. Luckily we don't swap clothes with one another.
I'd go as far as to say that if DH said he liked something I was bought, I'd reconsider having it in my wardrobe.

What an earth is he on about? I was expecting something that looked like scrubs based on what he said- this looks like a perfectly normal coat!

It would look great on the right person (not me, but that’s irrelevant). Laidback Scandi style, would work well dressed smartly in the city or dressed down on more hipster types.

Looks more odds in the picture because of the ensemble (wtf are the socks about).

I like it. But then I have something similar only in a felt material.
I mostly dress down with mine, so hoodie or flannel with jeans or leggings and trainers.
Although that light grey colour isn't the easiest to work with!

I love it. I wear a lot of grey and neutrals and this is great. You can dress that up or down, for work or out to the pub. Is your DH the epitome of sartorial elegance?

I'm a short arse so couldn't carry it off, but I think it's an investment

It's a bit meh. Dull. Shapeless, not a great colour.

The thing about a coat is that it should be either warm or waterproof, otherwise what's it for? If you just want a really attractive coat that serves no specific purpose other than looking amazing then that coat isn't it.

I don't think double breasted works with that long a length but if you feel good in it then keep it.

What does he spend money on? It’s so oppressive to have someone else monitoring your choices - it’s not as if he’ll be wearing it.

Arket clothes are generally well made. This coat is half wool, half polyester, lined, with a vent at the back. Fashionably oversized. Excellent weight for Autumn, or Winter if you’re traversing the Tube or if the weather isn’t particularly cold. The only relevant questions are do you love it, can you afford it, and will you actually wear it?

@Wildermess yes that's exactly why I bought it. Sometimes weather is not cold enough for thick wool coats if you'll be indoors for example or travelling so this is perfect 👌

Need to see it on you really as it is stylish but perhaps not on everyone

I hate it. It’s ugly yet impractical. That grey pinstripe suits no one, it won’t be waterproof or warms. What’s the point? It even looks ugly on the beautiful model!
