Questioning my outfit!

It's my DS graduation in two weeks. I've never been to a graduation before.
I lack in confidence and get so stressed out making clothes choices for special events!
I've bought this dress, but now with the rubbish weather wondering if it will be too summery!
I will most probably need a jacket , unless we have a heatwave, which would you say looks best please?

The smarter tailored one for graduation.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 11/07/2024 20:47

What a beautiful colour dress. I'd also go with the first one, no denim always seems to me like a good principle, even if you dress quite casually at these events. Some people go all out. I hope you have a wonderful time!

holjam · 11/07/2024 20:48

Beautiful dress
I would go with the tailored jacket over the denim for a graduation

Loveagoodbook · 11/07/2024 20:53

Thanks everyone, the jacket is long sleeved, but I've rolled the sleeves as I think it looks better!

First. Denim isnt appropriate.

Rina66 · 11/07/2024 21:16

First one, beautiful colours.

LesFlamandes · 11/07/2024 21:41

Definitely the first one. That’s a nice combination for a summer graduation.

Petrine · 11/07/2024 21:45

I’d go with the first one too but would suggest you have the sleeves hemmed properly if you want them shortened. Tucking them up as you’ve done for the photo spoils the lines of the jacket.

Hope you have a lovely day.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 21:58

First one. Although, I dressed up for our son's graduation but very few did.

Loveagoodbook · 12/07/2024 07:47

Thanks everyone for your comments I'll stick with the blazer! I don't think I will have time to get the sleeves professionally turned up unfortunately.

If you can't get the sleeves altered, they would look much better rolled up the other way I think.

Rina66 · 12/07/2024 07:57

Why don't you just get some elasticated shirt sleeve holders and ruche them up like all the jackets are at the moment? You won't see the bands, I do it on lots of my jackets and shirts.

Mine are from Amazon

It doesn't.

I didn't notice you'd rolled the sleeves up and thought the jacket looked really twee to the point I preferred the white denim option. Just leave the sleeves as normal.

MartyFunkhouser · 12/07/2024 08:49

I like the denim better.

The other one is a tad too dressy for a graduation.

EoinMahoney · 12/07/2024 08:50

Unroll the sleeves and either scrunch or turn them up on the day.

The denim jacket looks better because of the bad sleeve turn-ups on the other one but denim might be a bit too casual.

Both nice otherwise.

This is a good idea.

Outfit one is perfect for a graduation, the dress is lovely. You'll see all kinds of outfits so you really don't need to worry.

I agree. But if the pink, leave sleeves as normal.

Loveagoodbook · 12/07/2024 11:23

Thank you for your replies.
I hadn't rolled the sleeves properly, it was just rough to see what I preferred.
I'll have another try on with the dress.

The dress is lovely @Loveagoodbook , and both jackets look pretty wth it.
Congratulations to your DS for his success.

MiddleAgedDread · 12/07/2024 13:03

Having seen people coming out of a local graduation last week, the dress and blazer is definitely the sort of thing the mums were wearing! I would keep the sleeves long, I think making them shorter makes it look like the sort of thing your gran would wear to a wedding. If they're too long you could probably just fold them under and put a couple of tacking stiches through to hold in place.

raffegiraffe · 12/07/2024 13:04

Really lovely dress and it goes well with the dark pink jacket

Comefromaway · 12/07/2024 13:15

The first picture looks too much like a wedding.

I prefer the style of the denim jacket for a graduation but the colour of the tailored one.

MotherWol · 12/07/2024 13:21

They're lovely colours and perfect for a summer graduation. Congratulations to your DS, hope you have a lovely time!

TakeOnFlea · 12/07/2024 13:31

Definitely not the denim. Blazer but leave the sleeves long!

Loveagoodbook · 12/07/2024 16:56

This is what it look like with the sleeves left long and also the sandles I'm planning to wear.
Thank you for all your comments
