Is this too casual?

I’m off to a party on Saturday. Friend has hired a room in a bar in the city from mid afternoon.

I don’t own any nice dresses so was just thinking of wearing something like the attached image? I have a lovely camel blazer I could wear.

Is this too casual though?

I think it’s a nice outfit but kind of depends what kind of bar? What shoes are you planning?

HappierTimesAhead · 09/07/2024 19:45

It's nice but presumably you will need to take off the blazer when you get too warm and then you will just be wearing a vest top and jeans. Do you have kind of fancier top you could wear? Even a white shirt tucked in a nice belt?

Awcw1234 · 09/07/2024 19:47

Black loafers? My jeans are cropped.

I don’t really want to wear heels 🙈

Edited

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Or some great accessories?

Accessories would definitely help it look dresser and more finished. What shoes?

HappierTimesAhead · 09/07/2024 19:51

Sorry just saw, loafers

HermioneWeasley · 09/07/2024 19:52

london is super casual, you’ll be spot on

HappierTimesAhead · 09/07/2024 19:53

Tbh, unless it's a wedding or job interview, the casual look is very much in these days and people turn up to bars wearing very differing styles. If you feel good, go for it

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 09/07/2024 19:54

This is my fave kind of outfit, unless you live somewhere much dressier. I'd pair it with gold jewellery (layered which according to my teens means more than one bracelet at at time), or pearl drop earrings and bracelet. I like a belt, not all of the younger generation do. Needs a bit of bling round the edges. I love a blazer though, and I think loafers are fine.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 09/07/2024 19:55

I wouldn't need to take off the blazer though, I wouldn't be that hot in the UK unless we are about to have a heat wave.

Name change?

Seems like the wet weather is here to stay but bars can get hot with all the bodies.

Princessfluffy · 09/07/2024 20:00

It's very plain. If you have some interesting accessories or a fun hairstyle that would help. Otherwise it's not reading party to me.

Awcw1234 · 09/07/2024 20:08

Maybe I could purchase some last minute accessories. I haven’t got time to find a new outfit 🙈

@Awcw1234 black loafers wouldn't go, you haven't got black anywhere else so they will look off ( I personally don't think black shoes go with blue denim) do you have any brown or tan shoes? They would keep the colour scheme more cohesive. What other accessories/ jewellery ?

RomainingToBeSeen · 09/07/2024 20:53

I think it's fine and you shouldn't look out of place, particularly if it's daytime.

Not sure about the black loafers. If you have some nice sandals or other shoes I'd probably wear trainers or pumps to yomp across London and then change shoes at the venue.

Next have loads of jewellery with quick delivery. I'd look for a gold, pendant style necklace with something interesting, a couple of gold bangles and some more subtle earrings.

Yep, perfect.

Awcw1234 · 09/07/2024 21:03

I have some flat tan sandals?

I was going to take a black bag as well but I’m guessing it wouldn’t go! I’m useless at this lol.

I do have some black vest type bodysuits but they are a little lowcut!

OP posts:
Shybutrude · 09/07/2024 21:10

@Awcw1234 I think black shoes and bag might look heavy and wintery against blue jeans and a beige/taupe blazer, esp if your jeans are cropped. I think it affects the balance of the outfit.

Awcw1234 · 09/07/2024 21:18

So tan sandals and a tan bag maybe?

OP posts:
Shybutrude · 09/07/2024 21:27

@Awcw1234 Are they the same tan? Do you have a full length mirror? So you can see his the proportions/colours work together

Awcw1234 · 09/07/2024 21:29

I would have to go out and buy one but yeah I’d make sure they’d match.
At this rate though, I’m thinking I should just stay at home 😂

If you look like that model and have those exact garments, that looks is great. If I wore it it just wouldn't look like much, and wouldn't work for a party. Only you know where you stand on that front!

NewName24 · 09/07/2024 21:38

I would say it is too casual.
Not very well fitted denim jeans and a white vest is something I might wear to do the supermarket run.

It does look like you can't be bothered, for a party you are invited to.

Shybutrude · 09/07/2024 21:40

@Awcw1234 do you have any good friends close by, who know you better than us randoms? Or you could do a WhatsApp group with the ppl going so you can see what ppl are planning on wearing? Either way you should go and have fun!

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 09/07/2024 23:49

Your friend will be delighted you turned up and far less fussed about what you turned up wearing, so don't let that deter you. I think tan sandals sound good, with some gold jewellery but it's always better to go in any outfit than not to go- you don't have to look 'perfect', just like you are up for enjoying yourself.

I would think low cut black top and black shoes would be fine too, especially if it's going into evening as an event, it's not so warm at the moment, I wear black tops a lot even in summer.
