Is this too close to white for a wedding?

DH thinks this dress is too close to white for a wedding, but I think it's fine.

I'd love third opinions!

For context, the bride herself is not wearing white, in case that has any bearing on it.

I think it’s fine.

Pipecleanerrevival · 07/07/2024 08:51

It’s fine.

DietCokeandHulaHoops · 07/07/2024 08:52

It’s absolutely fine (even if the bride was wearing white).

UltramarineViolet · 07/07/2024 08:53

Looks fine to me, neither the fabric nor style is remotely 'bridal'

EndlessSummer · 07/07/2024 08:53

Yep it’s fine.

maw1681 · 07/07/2024 08:57

I think it's lovely, doesn't look like a wedding dress at all

Saisong · 07/07/2024 08:59

It has nightdress vibes to me, but I suppose that's a thing?

twentysevendresses · 07/07/2024 09:01

It's absolutely fine...and lovely too ❤️

turnipsarelush · 07/07/2024 09:03

I wouldn't. It's going to stand out in the photos and the blue won't be as noticeable in pictures

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 07/07/2024 09:06

I wouldn’t, due to the photo effect.

Is it your family or DH’s? If his , he is probably attuned to their sensibilities.

BiscuitsForever · 07/07/2024 09:08

Yes, too white overall. It's just better to avoid the risk of upsetting anyone.

SnapdragonToadflax · 07/07/2024 09:11

It's lovely but I think the pattern would vanish in photos taken from a distance, the lines are too thin to be visible. So maybe. Get DP to take a photo of you at a distance and see how it looks.

Probably depends on the wedding and the bride, if she's not wearing white presumably she's not hugely traditional?

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 07/07/2024 09:12

I would say it’s fine, particularly if you avoid any white or pale accessories. But you do run the risk of being photographed in the same dress as the Prime Minister’s wife, or all the other people who have raced to Me and Em in her wake.

(I gather some people don’t mind being seen in the same clothes as ‘celebrities’ - but I really would.)

Blink282 · 07/07/2024 09:17

I think it will look whiter in photos, so I wouldn’t.

desperatedaysareover · 07/07/2024 09:17

It will look pretty white in photos. That said, it does look like exactly the sort of frock I’d expect to see someone wearing to a fancy wedding but the fact the bride isn’t choosing white herself would give me pause. Where is the wedding being held? Is she going for a full-length dress, veil and flowers and all that? Cos your pick could be a bridal outfit for a low-key registry office or barn/less formal do, at a push, so if I was wearing it somewhere like that I’d have a blue jacket or whatever, to ensure there can be no confusion. You don’t want to end up looking more bridal than a non-traditional bride 😂

Echobelly · 07/07/2024 09:18

I've seen a few posts with dresses along these lines but print on a white background is not going to get mistaken for a wedding dress generally, but I agree that because the print is so fine and light coloured it may risk looking white from a distance/in photos.

Myblindsaredown · 07/07/2024 09:19

It’s fine, I really don’t get the hysteria over white on here, it’s clearly not bridal and no one is going to be looking at the photos if you’re in them thinking wow I is she the bride. Clearly

desperatedaysareover · 07/07/2024 09:37

Just realised you asked for suggestions for other dresses

Blue Karen Millen maxi - might suit if slim and fitted is the chosen shape?

or

Coral and white - similar idea, high neck and structured but brighter accents

DVF - loads and loads of colours and options

No of course they won't but it will distract the eye. Its going to draw attention in the photos. It's fine if OP is going to stand at the back but if she's front row it's going to be what the eye is drawn to. It's not about "hysteria" (what a sexist term) it's about colours.

desperatedaysareover · 07/07/2024 09:40

Oh, sorry, you wrote opinions not options just ignore me, no glasses on 🫢

Sandwichgen · 07/07/2024 09:42

Shove a blue cardi or wrap on for the photos if you love the dress. I think you could get plenty of wear out if it

GoldFrame · 07/07/2024 09:43

It’s lovely, and fine!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 07/07/2024 09:46

I don't think I would as I'd be worried the blue wouldn't show enough in the photos and you'll end up looking like that person who wore a white dress to a wedding.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 07/07/2024 09:51

I don't think it's too close to white, although it has to be said I wouldn't have minded in the slightest if someone had worn pure white to my wedding so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

The coral and white is stunning!
