Is this too close to white for a wedding?

DH thinks this dress is too close to white for a wedding, but I think it's fine.

I'd love third opinions!

For context, the bride herself is not wearing white, in case that has any bearing on it.

@Raveonette agree, I wish I had somewhere good enough to go😂

bananaboats · 07/07/2024 11:43

I wouldn't, it's too white & agree with pps from a distance/in photos you won't see the blue

HungryLittleCrocodile · 07/07/2024 12:38

It's fine, but as a pp said, it does look a bit like a nightdress!

Just realised you asked for suggestions for other dresses

Blue Karen Millen maxi - might suit if slim and fitted is the chosen shape?

or

Coral and white - similar idea, high neck and structured but brighter accents

DVF - loads and loads of colours and options

Each to your own etc, but that first dress is dreadful. The other 2 are great.

So far as OP's dress, it's a bit insipid but no reason not to wear to a wedding.

WandsOut · 07/07/2024 13:03

That coral and white dress suggested is so stunning that if you wore that to the wedding I'd marry you. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

TinySmol · 07/07/2024 13:06

I wouldn't.

RaspberryIce · 07/07/2024 13:09

I wouldn't as I'd choose any colour but white or black.

semideponent · 07/07/2024 13:27

OK, thanks all. I'll err on the side of caution. Good points about how it will look in photos.

As for the nightdress allusion, I think my frame of reference must be way way out there!

Funny, I thought the first one was stunning and hated the other two!

It looks okay to me, but honestly, all you need to do is message the bride and ask her to honestly tell you if she’s happy for you to wear that or not. I’m almost at our wedding now and I’m letting my bridesmaids pick their own dresses as long as they’re a soft blue, and they’re messaging me asking for my opinion. I’m not thinking anything of it and nor are they.

Scentedjasmin · 07/07/2024 14:04

Why even bother listening to your husband about wedding attire. Men rarely know anything about such things. Of course it is fine. Just trust yourself in future!

MassiveOvaryaction · 07/07/2024 14:41

Looks like a nightie to me op, sorry. Plus you wouldn't necessarily see the colour in the photos, just the white.

I'm always amazed by the "looks like a nighty" comments on this and other threads.

Some of you must have incredibly glamourous sleep wear.

Not too close at all, I'd accessorise with a colour though.

HMTheQueenMuffin · 07/07/2024 16:19

I wouldn't.

My mother wore something like that at my wedding when I had said 'anything but white' and it irritated me a very great deal. But there is a back story there.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 07/07/2024 16:25

It is not at all bridal.
I guess he doesn't like it?

OpenWife · 07/07/2024 16:30

Don't go there. The fact your OH would feel uncomfortable about it is surely reason enough.

tomketchup · 07/07/2024 17:01

i suspect he just doesn’t like it rather than actually think it’s too close to a wedding dress

Boutonnière · 07/07/2024 17:06

It doesn’t look remotely bridal, so even if the photographs don’t show the detail of the print, it’s going to be fine ( and I usually side eye the’ but it’s cream and lovely, what’s wrong with my (remarkably bridal) maxi dress’ examples often shown on here.

Plantparent · 07/07/2024 17:48

If you have to ask then it probably is. In my opinion it is so don't wear it. There are so many other colours to choose from.

The comments always pop up on threads about dresses for weddings!
I've said before, my nightwear consists of fluffy pjs from primark so none of the dresses give me nightwear vibes....I can only assume most mnetters live more decadent lifestyles than me.

Saisong · 07/07/2024 18:04

This is the nightdress vibe I mean. I don't wear them personally, but have ladies in my family that do - much like the pair pictured in the slippers!

And the dress doesn't look anything like that.

So anything with a small floral pattern on a pale background is now akin to nightwear?

MN approved wedding outfits are a sensible shift dress and a pashmina
