Oh goodness. She is a pretty woman, but that dress looks like the unfortunate result of a brief liaison between a zebra and an extra from an amateur production of The Sound Of Music.

It's striking and rather cute,I think.

You might not care about donkeys. You can’t speak for the rest of us!

She’s not Lady Victoria Starmer, she’s Lady Starmer, or Victoria, Lady Starmer. Lady Victoria is a courtesy title of a daughter of a duke, marquess or earl, not the wife of a knight.

Oh I see, noted.

Peregrina · 07/07/2024 09:04

In the same way that Diana was Diana, Princess of Wales, and not Princess Di.
Who also wore some nice stylish clothes.

Although I never voted for her party, Theresa May clearly liked fashion and wore outfits which suited her so usually looked good, and she didn't have the model girl figure either.

BobnLen · 07/07/2024 09:19

Teresa May usually looked good, I think she liked her shoes, there were often articles about them.

Nurses pay is low not lawyers, no matter where practice. Sir Starmer has his pension protected, there was a law introduced just for him. Victoria Starmer is not an occupational therapist as Labour puts it out. She is a lawyer within the occupational therapy department.

Almost - a lawyer within the occupational health department 😊

Errr… How does a human rights lawyer become a multi multi millioner? 🤔

Through property, for starters. Read the thread. There’s £2m capital in their London home alone.

Read the thread indeed.

Owning a substantial home in London, yes.

Owning multi millions in property elsewhere - no, lies made up by the Mail and lazily propagated by countless other sources.

And noted that Mrs Sunak’s very expensive dress was in support of the Indian economy and not that of the UK

I loved Akshata Murty's dress. Victoria Starmer's was OK IMO. I much preferred the gown she wore at the Japan state dinner the other day. That was lovely.

It would have looked a bit over the top walking down Downing St.

Newposter180 · 05/07/2024 14:35

Re the previous price comment - I think most people would cobble together a decent budget for an outfit if they knew they’d be on the front of every national newspaper in it! She’s obviously taken care to pick something high street/relatable etc.

I liked both dresses, I think it’s quite common to go red/white/blue (flag/party colours) in the circumstances (although didn’t notice the blue downward arrows point above which is pretty funny).

Agreed. It didn’t cost thousands! And doesn’t she also have an audience with the King for a few minutes ( at the end of the PM’s )
I think it’s a lovely dress… the shape and stitching are gorgeous!

mickeymoist · 07/07/2024 10:50

I think Victoria is Lady Starmer. If she were Victoria, Lady Starmer. It would indicate they were divorced.

IcedPurple · 07/07/2024 11:35

In the same way that Diana was Diana, Princess of Wales, and not Princess Di.

She was only Diana, Princess of Wales after the divorce.

While married she was HRH the Princess of Wales.

£275 for polyester? No thanks.

That's what I thought. It's a nice enough dress but not worth that money.

When people were saying it was 'reasonably priced' I was expecting £70 or so. I guess 'reasonable' means different things to different people.

Hmm. Really wasn’t sure about that one. Mrs. Sunak (can’t remember the name she goes by 🥴) is tiny with delicate features and I think it absolutely swamped her.

Not that it matters, of course.
**
The name “she goes by” is her name.
**
I suspect you’d remember it if it was Emma or Clare or Susan

Oh, please. You’re suggesting I can’t remember her name because it’s not “English”?
No, it’s because it’s not the same as her husband’s. Don’t be a dick.

Yes, the right wing media, the Murdoch tabloids and the daily fail have prepared a campaign to discredit Starmer and the new government , being one of the big fat lies that he’s a “multimillionaire”. And they just started.

please someone stop these tabloids and their lies. They spout the same lies with brexit and got away with it.

Mrs Sunak's dress was in the same price bracket as the red dress in £, before import fees and taxes.

RestlessSparrow · 07/07/2024 19:32

I preferred Ms Murty's dress at the vote. I wasn't that keen on Lady Starmer's dress there, but it was OK. Most dresses look too big to me these days.

They're not toffs

Toffs are upper class/Eton types

The Sunaks and Johnsons and Rees Moggs are toffs

Rishi Sunak's dad was a GP and his mum ran a pharmacy - that's a solid middle-class background, and they set him on the public school/Oxbridge route through money they'd earned. Toff means someone from an aristocratic background so that's not him at all.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/07/2024 07:33

So much polyester.

Not crease is a big part of the appeal, but so much polyester and quite expensive.

It’s not something I would buy, whether I worked for the NHS or not.

Lentilweaver · 08/07/2024 07:51

Polyester makes me sweaty, so I can't wear it. Angela Rayner looks pretty creased!

WhatWillIWear · 08/07/2024 08:42

I have to say, long before Last Friday, I had for years labelled Me + Em as epitomising Tory Wife. So it’s amusing to learn of the brand’s ensconce-ment in the bosom of the Labour Party.

The clothes always (unless the wrong colour) look ‘nice’. And make the women who wear them look pulled together and composed and smart (unless crumpled). I could never wear them; I’m not that person - I don’t want to look ‘nice’ and regularly manage to make clothes costing multiples of Me + Em prices look scruffy and deconstructed. (Though quite often I pay less than their prices through sales and pre-owned or vintage sites.)

I adored the design and construction of Akshata Murty’s dress and thought it looked fabulous on her, as well as being quite fantastically well chosen for the occasion (even down to the excitedly negative responses). And I’m as far from Tory thought as it’s possible to be.

I guess we’re all different …
