Need to hide a pregnancy at a wedding

It’s a small wedding and I don’t want to detract any attention from the couple as there are already issues.

Will only be 12ish weeks but I have a flat stomach and it’s my second pregnancy so I’m anticipating a bit of a bump.

I usually wear quite slinky stuff so a floral tent may as well be a sign saying ‘up the duff’.

I’m looking for a cami dress with an artful ruffle or lots of detail. Maybe one of those tiered maxi dresses. But everything on ASOS is too sexy for a church wedding or too surrendered wife.

Has anyone seen anything that may help?

Ruched front maybe? Like this

I love this. Colours and print are fab but just wish it was more open at the top. It’s 30 degrees where I am and I don’t want anything too high around my neck (sorry I should have said!!)

Thanks for the lovely suggestions- pretty dresses but worried I’ll look a bit of a bridesmaid rather than a wedding guest

Are we thinking this looks too maternity or no?

Soz! Try searching 'cider layered cut out chiffon ruffle hem floral sweetheart maxi dress'

I really like this

I think both the ones you have posted are really nice, op. And I wouldn't say either of them scream 'I'm pregnant!'

If you usually go slinky I would go with this option but I like both

No dress recommendations but when I was in a similar situation I was sure to hold a wine glass of most of the reception so I wasn't conspicuous by not drinking.

Not exactly a 70s tent, but I feel like if you're normally a slinky dresser it might be veering into noticeably 'bump skimming ' territory. I might go for a bit more distraction at the front unless you love it

FirstFallopians · 25/06/2024 19:53

I think you’re overthinking it a bit- most people are too preoccupied with their own outfit and the day itself without giving a second thought to another guest’s outfit (unless it’s white!)

Dresses that look like floral tents or handmaid-esque are very in at the moment, so you’d just look like you’re following fashion if you chose something very forgiving!

I’m not overthinking it. It’s a wedding with 10 guests and I have reason to know it’s a sensitive topic and it’s definitely not the time to ‘announce’ accidentally.

I get what you are saying about oversized being in though. i am thinking about something flouncy from Sister Jane.

I love the asos one!
though a pattern will be less shape defining.
i once left a bottle of appletizer in the cloakroom at a wedding so i could keep my glass topped up with ‘fizz’.

MoveMoveMove · 25/06/2024 20:18

As you're normally a 'slinky' dresser I would look for something slinky but with a very 'loud' pattern! Ideally on a black background with the pattern in a pale colour. Should detract the eye from anything else!
The long ruffled dresses scream 'trying to hide something' on someone who wouldn't normally wear them. Another vote for carrying a glass of alcohol around with you at all times (if you are normally a drinker of course!).

PregnantNowScrewed · 25/06/2024 20:29

Could you wear a blazer over whatever you choose? Maybe not if it’s going to be hot?

Im going to need to hide my dc3 bump at work for as long as possible so have been researching bump hiding options and a jacket seems to be a good shout.

That bright green Asos one for £40 would be a very handy dress after the wedding if we actually get a summer. Suitable for a summer wedding, too

QueenOfWeeds · 25/06/2024 20:43

Nobody would be looking at your tummy if you wore this, OP!

I wonder if this sort of thing might work? Depending on where the knot falls, it might hold the fabric out enough? Would very much depend on the fit though.

I really sympathise OP in a small group who know you well it is hard to hide. I knew each time with my SILs that they were pregnant but they hadn't announced it yet. I kept my mouth shut. Let's hope that anyone who guesses keeps theirs shut too.

I think the bright green one does shout maternity, especially as you usually wear slinky. I agree that a pattern would work best. But the olive green ruffled one looks like it would work?
