Need to hide a pregnancy at a wedding

Probionic · 25/06/2024 19:05

It’s a small wedding and I don’t want to detract any attention from the couple as there are already issues.

Will only be 12ish weeks but I have a flat stomach and it’s my second pregnancy so I’m anticipating a bit of a bump.

I usually wear quite slinky stuff so a floral tent may as well be a sign saying ‘up the duff’.

I’m looking for a cami dress with an artful ruffle or lots of detail. Maybe one of those tiered maxi dresses. But everything on ASOS is too sexy for a church wedding or too surrendered wife.

Has anyone seen anything that may help?

I wore this when I went to our friends wedding last year and hadn’t announced pregnancy yet, the ruffle really hid that early stage bloating. I already had the dress and was still fitting in my normal size so it was fine. Wedding was a Sunday and in the middle of nowhere so perfect designated driver excuse too. I think we told people the week after.

I agree with @FirstFallopians way over thinking it.
I doubt anyone will notice what you're wearing, let alone deduce that you're pregnant.

Do you mean something like this one?

Something like this would obscure the bump area

This one is great, I think the first did look a bit maternity especially given your usual style

Ophy83 · 26/06/2024 07:11

Have your boobs stayed the same? Boobs are often a giveaway before a tummy in early stages of pregnancy

Thats gorgeous!!

I mean, I looked pregnant at 8 weeks with my second (a distant relative commented “oh you’re expecting again then”) and at 11 weeks I had strangers coming up to me to congratulate me. And this is despite me wearing loose clothing and never having a flat stomach. I was wearing maternity jeans at 10 weeks. Be comfortable and don’t wear something completely out of your usual style. People may notice no matter what you do. And trying to hide it is probably the quickest way to draw attention to it. Congratulations and enjoy the wedding.

Try pretty lavish

Roselilly36 · 26/06/2024 12:10

As a previous poster said, I looked pregnant very early on with baby number two, my first son was only a year old though. I definitely could not have worn something fitted!

Are we thinking this looks too maternity or no?

That’s really pretty, perfect for a wedding and doesn’t look maternity at all.

Just 10 guests? So not drinking will be noticeable and possibly your food choices too. Yeah, people will know you're pregnant regardless of your dress choices.

Ooh love this

whynosummer · 26/06/2024 12:20

The green dress is gorgeous, and you can definitely hide drinking if you and your partner buy all your drinks so you can get no alcohol beer or sparkling drinks. "I have a gin & tonic already, thanks!" [holding up your tonic water] If someone offers you something like red wine that you can't pretend you have already, claim the heat on top of the Champagne you had earlier has given you a headache and say you need to "switch" to San Pellegrino for an hour while the paracetamol kick in.

I know you're right, but I wish this wasn't the truth. I barely drink, have never been a drinker even as a fresher at uni. At my hen do I was concealing a pregnancy (wasn't ready to talk about it) and people were so suspicious. Closest friends!! Even when I pointed out they'd known me 20+ years, had seen me stay sober through things like my 21st and graduation, and pretty much have a single glass if I was going to have anything. Was just baffled!! Obvs they were right, but the fact that not drinking is such a flag just 😳

OP you could always say you're on a course of metronidazole, can't drink if you're taking that one (or eat avocados, bananas, chocolate or salami fyi). Maybe just have a look into reasons why you might be taking it in case you get grilled. Still sucks that societal pressure demands often for lies or awkward truths though. Bleugh.

That one is lovely and doesnt scream "Im pregnant" at all. Hides what you want it too but doesnt look like maternity wear

ReadyTeddy1000 · 26/06/2024 13:23

Also agree re overthinking.
Tiny wedding, no drinking, watching what you eat, possibly nauseous, and if you're like I was, you'll have pregnant body language 😅😅

I also don't understand how you're going to a 10 person wedding when there are issues in the first place

Whether or not anyone guesses, just you make sure you reply discreetly so you're not accused of making the day about you, etc - not much more you can do, really

HaileeH · 26/06/2024 13:41

What about something like this, not sure what size you are but they have a few Zimmermann rentals xx

Newposter180 · 26/06/2024 13:44

I really like this, and it also covers the cleavage. Like others, my boobs looked drastically different long before I had a bump.

GalacticalFarce · 26/06/2024 13:56

Just talk about dieting and it's so hard to lose baby weight and weight just seems to on so much more quickly now.
