Looking for a perfume - woody, pepper

Desperado40 · 23/06/2024 19:22

Please help! I have spent a long time trying out different perfume samples recently but so far I have not found the one or even narrowed it down to a few. I know what I don't like - I don't like sweet, heavy scents, nothing with vanilla or rose. I used to like Chanel Chance 15 years ago, but a bit bored of it and it is no longer hitting the spot. I am drawn to woody scents and love pink pepper. I would stick with Molton brown Fiery pink pepper, but it lasts for an hour max and evaporates. I don't mind floral, just not too heavy or too classic.
If you like woody or peppery scents, what is your go to perfume?

Liz earle number 15. Really spicy and woody. I've have so many compliments

teresamendoza · 23/06/2024 22:25

My absolute favourite is Darling Nikki by Vilhelm Parfumerie, I get so many compliments from strangers when I wear it. Scent lasts forever on me. You can pick up small samples for £ to try before splashing £££

Floral Street Arizona Bloom is lovely. It has a really woody dry down. Not too sweet but still feminine.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 23/06/2024 22:43

Jo Malone wood sage & seasalt is what you want, smells woody and clean

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/06/2024 22:46

The Hugo Boss Scent For Her Elixir has pink pepper and is lovely.

AmberExpert · 23/06/2024 22:46

Following as this is just what I'm looking for too!

halfshutknife · 23/06/2024 22:51

Le labo santal 33.
Calvin klein eternity.
Liz Earle 100.

None of them fit the brief of what you want but I dislike the sweet smells too and these are my favs.

Also pengaligan circus style samples. You get about 10. Stunning.

KatPurrson · 23/06/2024 22:59

Comme Des Garçons 2

Copperoliverbear · 23/06/2024 23:23

Jo Malone.

bananafishbones1 · 23/06/2024 23:26

I used to also wear Chanel Chance and Molton brown. My currents are now jo malone wood sage and sea salt, Diptique - Fleur de peau and santal 33

Desperado40 · 23/06/2024 23:57

Wow, thank you all so much for responding! I have a better direction now instead of aimlessly getting more random samples. Excited to try these! 😍

Try a few of the Jo Malone ones too- they have a more woody scent

Bohomovies · 24/06/2024 00:13

Definitely Liz Earle No 15

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/06/2024 01:05

Terre by Hermes

It's in the men's section but I like it, & i've been asked about it by women when I've worn it.

Lush used to do one called Assassin which smelt gorgeously green & woody - does anyone know anything that smells like it?

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/06/2024 08:02

Bon Parfumeur do some lovely woody/herby fragrances.

Also Sunspel Oak Oak Wood or Sea Moss are both gorgeous if you like clean woody fragrances.

SGsling · 24/06/2024 08:49

This one is easy. Hermès Twilly Eau Poivrée. love it so much.
There is also some rose in it, but the pepper is just so warm and attractive.

blanketsfromtoast · 24/06/2024 10:47

@ifIwerenotanandroid I think Lush's Tramp would be very similar to Assassin? Same oakmoss and patchouli base.

ferretface · 24/06/2024 11:28

You're asking for woody and pepper so i give you:

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01
4160Tuesdays Sexiest Scent in the World... Ever

Both of these scents have high concentrations of Iso E Super which is woody and peppery. If they are too subtle for you (it's easy to go noseblind) try Le Labo Poivre 23. Warning -ruinously expensive.

Maverick66 · 24/06/2024 13:43

Another vote for Liz Earl No 15 .....love it

efeslight · 24/06/2024 13:54

Like a peppery smell too and find many perfumes too sweet and heavy.
I have Molecule mentioned above but find I can smell it on other people but not on myself

WannabeHealthier · 24/06/2024 14:07

Carnation is a lovely spicy note. The Prada series Infusions de Iris has a great example of this in the Oeillet version - available for sniffing at John Lewis perfume halls. It has a decent score on Fragrantica for both longevity and sillage (throw). I really love it.

I know the molton brown fragrance well and agree it doesn’t last because it’s not proper perfume. Same with the Jo Malone- they are very weak - more cologne than perfume. A good house to try for old fashioned spicy scents which are high quality is Atkinsons. I think you would definitely find something you like from their range

If you’re in London head to Covent Garden and have sniffing session round all the different perfume shops. You will be able to compare and contrast and possibly pick up free (or cheap) samples - it’s a good afternoon activity!

I came on to say this too! It is abolutely gorgeous on. However, I'm not sure about longevity, I find it doesn't last long on me and if you find that with your current Molten Brown one this might be the same.

It’s a skin fragrance and doesn’t have much throw. I find it’s one that I become anosmic to it pretty quickly but other people can smell it. The whole point of this perfume was to attract other people- it wasn’t intended for you to smell it necessarily- it like a pulling perfume!! Personally I think the whole brand is a bit overhyped. I had the Iris version recently and it’s very weak, nice but not enough oomph for me

It’s a cheap cologne formulation. I avoid Jo Malone because even though they smell nice the quality doesn’t justify the price. It’s on a parr with 4711 which you can pick up for less than a tenner

Floral Street mentioned up thread however is good quality perfume and good value for money (shops are opposite each other in Covent Garden) but very different style to JM
