Perfume for a boring lady:D

EllyGi · 23/06/2024 07:56

Since I had kids I barely can stand a perfume on me. Everything feels too strong and I get headaches. The only perfume I can tolerate is Shiseido Zen. However, it gets boring. I have been using it 3 years now!

Can someone recommend nice inoffensive perfume?

Some examples of perfumes I had and loved and are now too strong are Miss Dior Mademoiselle, Paco Rabanne Olympea and Lancome la vie.

Any suggestions?

Oh yes - try a few things from Perfumer H. They are not cheap - but the scents are so ‘pure’ (I mean that’s how I perceive them) and subtle and comforting. (It’s also easy to become obsessed with the whole brand.) Here:

Perfumer H

They will send you three samples for £10.

(I have absolutely no connection but am a bit in love with some of the scents at the moment. And the shops.)

Try some of the Hermes perfumes. I like the 'jardin' range. They smell less chemically than lots of other perfumes.

heyhohello · 23/06/2024 08:29

Oh and I like Fragonard perfumes too.

EllyGi · 23/06/2024 12:17

Perfect! Thank you ladies. I ordered a sample set from perfumer h.

I will check out the Hermes ones when I'm in the shopping center as they don't seem to have affordable samples. They have one set for 120 which is a bit dear. :)

Hope you discover something you love!

heyhohello · 23/06/2024 13:51

Monotheme is worth a look too. The larger M&S outlets often stock Fragonard and Monotheme.

heyhohello · 23/06/2024 13:52

Oh and Roger and Gallet perfumes aren't overly strong and quite inexpensive.

Ooh, I like the sound of those. I can't find anything I like or that suits me these days. But I love their soaps.

Meadowwild · 23/06/2024 13:59

OP I have had the same problem and have reverted to using much much lighter sprays. I like Zara Applejuice or Clarins Eau Ressourcante (blue bottle) Both fresh and light but not long lasting,

I'm on a mission to find something fresh and light with staying power.

spikeandbuffy · 23/06/2024 13:59

You might like this brand, linked to the US website but they're available in the U.K.
Website has descriptions of them

YSL Libre
Light and fresh
It's long lasting too

ghislaine · 23/06/2024 14:11

Yardley floral scents are light and inoffensive. Cheap too, so you don’t have to feel guilty about experimenting.

EllyGi · 23/06/2024 14:35

Thanks all! I was checking some of the clean beauty reviews on Fragrantica and laughed so much to this one that decided to share:

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like this. But people tell me I smell like a cat, every time I wear it. “A litter box?”, I ask, in fear. They reply with something along the lines of “No, a clean, warm, cuddly, kitty cat”, every time.

Do what you want with that information.

No idea what cats smell like, I wish Clean had some samples available as I'm curious but afraid I will smell like laundry or cat 🤣

The YSL one sounds intriguing as well will try to find some of these in shop as otherwise I will go broke. 😄

I also forgot to add years ago I tried Ffern perfumes which was a total disaster. I think I got around 3 and I hated them all so finally I cancelled my subscription.

The Guerlain Aqua Allegoria range is very light and clean. Some are floral, some are citrusy, the Herba Fresca one is kind of minty/grassy/green. Also 4711 Aqua Colonia range - very light. (More modern than the original 4711- which I still rather like for summer tbh)

Fraaahnces · 23/06/2024 14:46

Btw 4711 Aqua Collonia range has the added advantage of being rather inexpensive so you can mix and match and experiment. They don’t last forever on the skin, but at that price, who cares? They’re designed to refresh and be resprayed. My faves are the Lychee and White Mint and Blood Orange and Cardamom. Just remembered that 4711 also
did a Remix range and the Orange one is good and so is the Sparkling Island one.

Fragrantica can be wild

What kind of scents do you like? As in clean, fruity, citrus, floral, woody...?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/06/2024 14:47

Skin by Trussardi was a green fresh one, now discontinued maybe on eBay.

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea is very similar.

this company do similar ones to Zen:-

I know I don't like woody smells. Most floral and clean smells I like. Not too floral though. It's not that much the smell than the intensity I guess. Some smells I do like but when I spray I can constantly smell that and that makes me feel sick ... so it's not that much whether I will like it, but more like would I be able to tolerate it. Thus, I'm not too fussed that it will last 2-4 hours as long as it feels bearable on my skin.

I even got a Nivea perfume, the most inoffensive smell and it was just so strong and yucky on my skin.

There are these perfumes I actually can tolerate but are so boring I stashed away -
Caudalie Thé Des Vignes
L'Occitane Cherry Blossom
DKNY be delicious

I'm totally broken after 2 children. 😅🤣

Agree with trying some of the Aqua Allegoria range. They're light, citrussy summery colognes.
Noa by Cacharel is a clean (not in the idea of clean beauty which is a scam) fragrance, as is Philosophy's one that I can't remember the name of.

But my favourite gentle fragrance is Prada Infusions d'Iris. Any iris fragrance smells clean and soapy.

Glossier You is also light and fresh.

As above the 4711s are lovely- the original is a gentle neroli/orange blossom and still a classic.

EllyGi · 23/06/2024 15:00

@ASighWasMadeOfStone I loved Noa when I was little it's a very classic perfume. I will look up the other suggestions!

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain Truasardi Skin way very favourite fragrance ever. You’re going to be very lucky to find it again without having to sell a kidney to pay for it unfortunately. It’s on eBay for extortionate prices and I wouldn’t trust that it’s not off.

😂😂😂

I find the Jo malone ones quite fresh and not too strong.

I've also used Cerruti 1881 since I was a teenage and it's my go to every day, I don't find it over powering but love it.

spikeandbuffy · 23/06/2024 15:27

The other thing you could try is body mists
Phlur do a good range, Nest are launching some soon and a lot of perfumes come in a mist instead

ASighWasMadeOfStone · 23/06/2024 15:34

Another one!
Arran Aromatics After the Rain.
