Is this too much for a wedding?

Black & white themed. Not sure if the white bow is too bridal/look at me!

for context, they’re friends of ours but not close!

lovely couple but likely to be on the last table sort of thing you know 😂

I would say it doesn't look right for a wedding. You are not the prize to be unwrapped. It also reminds me of hen parties charging through towns wearing sashes with Team Bride on.

PeonySeasons · 17/06/2024 10:08

It looks very 80s and not in a good way - it's dated, not high fashion.

Keep looking!

Thank you! You’ve confirmed my gut feeling…

I love Self Portrait dresses and this one.

I think it's fab and you should never feel the need as a woman to tone down or drab up. I'd be honoured if people came to my event looking glamorous.

PeonySeasons · 17/06/2024 10:18

I love that lacey one!

Beenthereagainandagain · 17/06/2024 10:31

I’m not at all keen on the first one but I love the lacey black dress and I think you could wear that again for lots of occasions.

I quite like it. Would need to be tall and gangly like the model though IMO.

innerdesign · 17/06/2024 10:40

I disagree with the majority, I think the first one is by far the nicest. If they've decided on a black and white theme they'll have an aesthetic in mind (borderline black tie, but not asking so much of their guests) and I think your original suggestion is perfect.

FamouslyFrothy · 17/06/2024 10:48

I love the first one! If you're similar-ish shape/height to the model, it will look utterly fabulous! I don't think it's 'too much' and def not bridal.

CheeseAlways · 17/06/2024 12:44

I wouldn’t wear the first one but would wear off the others! Self portrait has a sale on and there are loads of options

jolenethea · 17/06/2024 13:05

I like it!

Soboredofdiettalk · 17/06/2024 13:07

First choice is not nice and very dated / 80s imo

I like your other suggestions. Any of them would do

Lambzig · 17/06/2024 13:47

Love that second photo on a hanger dress. The self portrait is lovely, but feels a bit dated to me.

I do like your first one, but yes the bow is a little bridal maybe.

Weddinggueststyle · 17/06/2024 14:48

Yes my worry with the self portrait azaelea is it’s such a recognisable dress does that date it?!

two more options from self portrait

@Weddinggueststyle what sort of venue is it? I do like Self Portrait but I'm not keen on any of the ones you've posted, I think it's the black lace. Although I do like this.

Other options: Black Velvet Maxi Dress – self-portrait
or the midi version Black Velvet Midi Dress – self-portrait
Black Chiffon Tier Midi Dress – self-portrait

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/06/2024 15:10

If you like it and it suits/fits then wear it (but I wouldn't want to be dictated to about what colour to wear).

Moveoverdarlin · 17/06/2024 15:13

I think the first one is the nicest by far. It fits the black and white brief and if you’re slim and tanned you’ll look fantastic. Don’t dull yourself down! It’s perfect for a wedding. It doesn’t look bridal at all. The other look a bit meh.

Katiesaidthat · 17/06/2024 15:18

The first one is the nicest, the rest are meh. But then in Spain generally we really go all the way and dress up for weddings, so I may be projecting.

Comedycook · 17/06/2024 15:19

I absolutely love it! It is very 80s but that's why I love it

Exactly. Very Joan Collins in Dynasty was my first thought!

But, black to a wedding?

EmpressOfTheThread · 18/06/2024 07:32

Why black? It's a bit drab and funereal?
There's nothing wrong with glamming up - it's great - I just think it would be nice to wear colour.
