That’s exactly what I thought. Turns out the dress is black and white, not blue and white, according to that article 😆

I was about to post the same! I thought she'd gone to Glastonbury!

😂 Brilliant photo! She does totally look like she's watching the headliners at Glasto on someone's shoulders!😂
She looks great and very summery.

@hopeishere that very much depends on your social circle.
The men in my family lived in jeans and t shirts or open necked shirt, they were all trades people, or skilled manual workers (plumber sign writer shop keeper)
Suits or formal trousers were for special occasions. A nice night out would have been chino type trousers and a shirt

My dad didn't own a single t shirt or any pair of jeans ever. Casual meant flannel or cords and an open necked tattersall check shirt.

Also, I love all the emphasis she puts
on reading. Hopefully she gets through to a few parents (but that’s whole other thread 😆)

Camilla is making a great Queen.

Going back to the convos about the younger royals, it is noticeable that Zara, Mike, Eugene and Beatrice have been at Palace garden parties this summer. I think this might be new (or perhaps not) and if so, might be a step towards them filling that gap a bit, at least from time to time. For Zara that would be a departure from the life her mother set up for her.

I realise I don't know whether Peter Philips was there or not.

Yes Peter was at the garden party.

ThePoshUns · 26/06/2024 19:14

I'd rather see Zara and Peter as working royals than Beatrice and Eugenie. Zara certainly seems a bit more down to earth

eggandonion · 26/06/2024 19:26

My information tends to be from Channel 5 documentaries...but Peter Phillips was a particularly favourite grandson as he was first. And was a great help with his cousins when Diana died.
Does he have a job...didn't he advertise milk?

deeahgwitch · 26/06/2024 19:29

I too would prefer Peter and Zara stepping up rather than Beatrice and Eugenie.
Zara and Peter appear quite grounded. It's probably because of their mother's no nonsense approach.

ARichtGoodDram · 26/06/2024 19:37

I don’t think any of them will step up and be working royals. I think if they’re drafted in for odd occasions then it’ll be all of them. I don’t think you’d see Charles or William give the press the opportunity to say that Beatrice and Eugenie have been ‘snubbed’ or that Peter or Zara have been ignored. They’re too press savvy for that.

I think if anyone is going to quietly take on a role though it would be Lady Louise.

KillingMeDeftIy · 26/06/2024 19:55

Why would they want to, is always my question. They have the best of both worlds - the perks of royalty without the duties. Why trade that?

I guess the royal family, most likely William, is just going to have to find a different way to operate. Even if Harry had stayed, he and Meghan are only two people. It would’ve still been a dramatic shrinkage compared to QEII’s days when she had her mother, sister, aunts and several cousins to help out.

Is there a reason why the British RF should be that large? is it because of their patronages?
Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands do OK with 2 working members (plus the ocasional appearance of the retired queens). Belgium has 3, Norway 4 (of which 2 are often off sick). If I'm to wrong the UK has 9, two of them off sick at the moment.

He works in sport events marketing or management or something along these lines. He was involved in F1 for a while.

P Anne very much didn't want Peter and Zara to be titled royals. She declined a title for Mark when they married, which would have given them titles too (as per Lady Sarah and the now Lord Snowden)

Why on earth would Zara give up her fabulous half in half out life?

I presume if things hadn't gone tits up with Andrew and Fergie, Bea and Eug may have been drawn in as they grew up but I think it's too late now, they seem decent women, but they are tainted by their parents, publicly imo.

What has really messed things up was Haz and Megs bailing. Whether they were right or wrong, jumped or were pushed. They have halved the young working royals and left it all to William and Kate.

I think personally they were right to go, but I wish it hadn't happened as I think they could have helped turn the monarchy round.

Choux · 26/06/2024 20:21

Peter has set up his own company. Remember they did the patrons lunch a few years ago after the palace gave them the contract. He was also going to do an ice rink at Kensington palace last winter but had to cancel as the site was near the Israeli embassy.

So basically he milks his royal connections to put on events and advertises milk in Asia. And previously he organised sponsorship of prestigious events so the event holders could milk the sponsors.

Maireas · 26/06/2024 20:22

Zara isn't "half in, half out". She's not a working royal, never has been. She attends certain events as a family member, nothing more.

OP posts:
gingercat02 · 26/06/2024 20:24

Yeah, but that's the perfect mix. You get to go to the fancy bits but don't have to rock up at the opening of sewage works.
That's half in half out to me.

Maireas · 26/06/2024 20:26

No, she's not got the "in" bit.
She's never been paid for by the Sovereign Grant. She has never been a working royal.

The loss of Andrew, Harry and Meghan will be a loss at least 600 engagements a year (roughly).

Charles can cover that as along with W & C he’s got Camilla, Anne and the Gloucesters plus a fit and healthy Edward and Sophie.

For William it’s a much bigger loss. He’d have been expecting to have 4 full timers and 3 who started full time then became part timers. The age gap between Charles and his brothers would have made them, and Sophie, a great bridge for William while his children grew up as they’d have been the Kent’s and Gloucesters of his reign.
