I’d fallow Max into the army. Camp Max. It’d be fabulous.

Maireas · 21/06/2024 22:27

Just brilliant!

Queen Max's Regiment would have fabulous headgear. Battle-ready AND stylish!

Here's Mary at the Maratonsang event. I think she's been looking very stylish of late, but personally I'm not keen on this Zimmerman dress. I think the pattern is too large and generally looks a bit fussy. Her hair and makeup are lovely as usual though.

Queen Mary wore a new Acadian printed high-neck linen maxi dress by Zimmermann, and brown Maureen pumps by Malone Souliers, and Jewlscph earrings

Oh I really like that dress of CPM's, especially the ochre colour. I'm not really a fan of florals, but that stylised print is better than those small, busy floral prints (worse still, small, busy floral prints combined with frills, or God forbid, tiers).

Final carriage list of the week has gone up, both King and Queen in attendance again.

Their horse, Desert Hero, who supplied them with a winner at their first Royal Ascot as monarchs last year runs again today in the 3.05pm in which he is 3rd favourite. Expect the roof to come off if he wins again!

Mike Tindall was embracing his inner Swiftie at Wembley last night in a "You need to calm down" t-shirt 🩷🩵. Zara in a gold bomber.

Thanks, @CaveMum for keeping us so well informed about Ascot!

Missed the start of the Royal Procession so missed the official detail on the Queen’s outfit, but from what I can see she is in pale pink with another stunning ivory/white hat and a gorgeous pearl choker.

It’s Dior they said. Pale pink with white embroidery. Philip Treacy hat.

First time I’ve caught it all week and the King and Queen are the only royals in the procession. typical!

Wow! I was there last night and there were rumours PW and the children were there too. I bet they had an amazing time (as I did!).

Maireas · 22/06/2024 16:09

Lucky you, @Noosnom !

I see Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg has decided to abdicate.
So shall we be seeing a lot more of our Royal thread mascot baby, Charles ?
How does Grand Duchess Maria Teresa feel about it I wonder ?

Maireas · 23/06/2024 20:21

Interesting! More of our mascots, I hope 😊
MT will go out in style.

MotherofPearl · 23/06/2024 20:50

That is interesting news. I don't imagine that in life generally GDMT is the kind of person who is happy to take a backseat. She strikes me as a slightly terrifying person, though I'm not sure why exactly!

It is interesting how different countries deal with these things. Over the years there have been those who've expressed a wish for William to be King before/instead of Charles - with many then responding 'but he still has a young family' etc, whereas the Lux set up seems much more relaxed. They seem to take the children to lots of engagements and they don't seem under the same media scrutiny (though what do I know - I don't live there).

KillingMeDeftIy · 23/06/2024 20:55

I was reading about it and apparently it’s not quite abdication just yet. GDH’s father did the same but didn’t actually abdicate until a few years later. He was much older at the time than Henri though, who is not even 70. Still, maybe he’s had enough and he and MT want to enjoy their time together and their grandkids while they’re still in good health. I think it’s a sensible move.

Choux · 23/06/2024 21:08

Yes. Henri announced today that he will make Guillaume his lieutenant representative in October meaning that he will assume most of his father's constitutional powers.

Henri's father did the same with him in 1998 but didn't actually abdicate till October 2000 so it could be a few years till the actual abdication. Our thread mascots will still be very young but I imagine reigning over a tiny country like Luxembourg isn't as taxing as being monarch to the UK, Spain etc in terms of workload and overseas travel.

Choux · 23/06/2024 21:16

@MotherofPearl I don't know enough about the stories to relay the details myself but her Wikipedia page says:

"In 2020 the prime minister of Luxembourg commissioned a report into the Cour le Grand Ducal following concerns over its working. The report found that up to 1/3 of employees had left since 2015 and that "The most important decisions in the field of personnel management, whether at the level of recruitment, assignment to the various departments or even at the dismissal level are taken by HRH the Grand Duchess.” Several newspaper reports at the time highlighted a 'culture of fear' around the Grand Duchess and "that no-one bar the Prime Minister dared confront her".[14] The report also raised concerns about the use of public funds to pay for the Grand Duchess' personal website and that this had been prioritised over the Cour's own official website.[15] There were also allegations that staff at the Court has been subject to physical abuse and these reports were investigated by the Luxembourg judicial police.[16] In February 2023 it was reported by several Luxembourg based media that the Grand Duchess had once again been accused of treating staff poorly during an outfit fitting in October 22. The incident even involved the Prime Minister of Luxembourg having to speak to the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess about the treatment of the staff and commissioning a report into it."

She does have a reputation for not treating staff well and taking control of court personnel decisions that should not really fall to her. Can you imagine the UK PM having to talk to the King and Queen about complaints about how palace staff were being treated by Camilla?

KillingMeDeftIy · 23/06/2024 21:36

Isn’t she alleged to have thrown shoes at staff? And I’m not sure she was the most welcoming MiL to Tessy.

KillingMeDeftIy · 23/06/2024 21:38

The Japanese state visit starts tomorrow and there’s a gala dinner at the palace on Tuesday so the tiaras must be getting a polishing as we speak!
