Not worth buying summer clothes now?

Just that.

We're now mid June and I saw someone yesterday wearing gloves on a dog walk round the park. I wish I'd worn mine.

I've bought a couple of pairs of trousers , a couple of T shirts, a linen jumper and an ANYDAY dress that was in the sale (and very cheap.)

I've yet to wear any of them other than the dress when we had a hot spell a few weeks ago.

I'm not going anywhere hot for a holiday.

On top of this, I have seen so little that I like anyway.

I live in Scotland and haven’t bought, or worn, summer clothes since I had a holiday in Italy in 2013.

Blueskyer · 10/06/2024 20:31

I'm hoping for some good sales later! I go on two long haul hot holidays a year and have loads of stuff for those. Always looking to upgrade those though. I also have hot uk weather clothes but barely worn this year! I also have my Scottish holiday wardrobe for all kinds of weather. It just doesn't feel like Summer this year and I have no inclination to buy at full price.

My sandals won't be coming out this week. It got up to 14 this afternoon (London).

Because Boden had 20% off last week, I ordered a pair of their black ponte trousers for the autumn winter (they are fab btw). I might wear them tomorrow with socks

8 degrees here this morning again. I’ve worn thermal leggings, hoody and socks. Massive thunderstorm this afternoon but struggled to get past 14 degrees. And have just caved and put the heating on again as it’s dropped back down to 9. I’m so, so fed up of it - I don’t remember a June where I was still wearing tights and long sleeves on a daily basis and certainly not one where I had the heating on.

TheChosenTwo · 10/06/2024 21:28

I don’t need anything this year, bought 2
new dresses last year which I wore on holiday and will wear again on holiday this summer. I did buy some new sandals last week as I didn’t have any brown ones and I wear a lot of navy but other than that I’m fine.
I’ve got a couple of weeks abroad in July/August and then another couple in November. Got plenty of summery clothes for just those few weeks. They rarely get warm here, I’m a chilly person and if it’s below about 26/27 degrees I’m in leggings and a sweatshirt.

ThePoshUns · 10/06/2024 21:42

I've still got stuff with labels on from last year's 'summer'.
I've bought a few basics for this year but not wasting my money on anything else.
It's freezing here. Not going to be buying any sandals or such like.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/06/2024 23:06

I work from home on a Monday and today stuck the heating on about 3pm, despite jeans, t-shirt, sweatshirt, and knitted socks. It’s 12/13 degrees forecast for the entire week here (NE Scotland) and just rubbish 😕

Actually it has been slightly warmer than average but the rain and cooler winds have made it feel colder.

But to avoid the lecture I went out this morning.and it was very warm until I got into the wind and then it felt cold.

Ok ,glad you have been enjoying the summer.

Magpie50 · 11/06/2024 01:25

I've been in the position of having to replace my entire wardrobe so I have def bought summery things this year.
Bought a couple of skirts and linen look shirts for layering.
Now on the look out for a nice (and cheap) summer dress but I don't think my favourite styles are in fashion this year sadly.

I have just ordered some summer jumpers! Can’t bring myself to keep wearing my winter clothes. Some bright knits will be perfect. I like the sunshine, it’s dry here and comfortable. Not bleak at least. SW.

8 degrees here at the moment. Summer clothes are a big weakness of mine - I love buying them, but I've barely worn them so far this year....long sleeves and a huge coat for me today!

Supersimkin7 · 11/06/2024 07:46

I’m doing excellently on cashmere jerseys from Vinted that people priced low cos summer - but the competition’s ramping up now and they go in seconds.

Bought a couple of bright bias cut dresses that look good with tee shirts underneath. And nice thick viscose can be dyed dark blue (thank you, Ghost).

Haven’t worn the linen blazer The Times told me would be invaluable every day.

Apparently where I am it's going to be raining every day from now until the 23rd June 🎉🎉

Meetingofminds · 12/06/2024 11:20

It’s freezing and raining everywhere in Europe. So we are not alone in this underwhelming situation!

Not everywhere in Europe, no. Greece is so hot they’ve had to close the Acropolis.

This is what I am needing - any suggestions?
I want thick and warm but with a summer look.

I think there is a market for beach-feel woollens!

I’m in Venice and it’s been cold and wet!
The same in Northern Europe.
