I know I’m late to the party, but Uniqlo bags…

LeopardLover82 · 09/06/2024 08:24

Right. So, I’ve seen them about, thought ‘they look useful’ but have had no need for one really.

However, I’m in the market for a new bag (actually two, but I’ll wait until winter for my next one!) and thought it might be useful. But I am quite particular 🤪 so need to ask a few questions as we don’t have a Uniqlo shop locally!

Therefore, can you guys help?

  1. how spacious is it? I need to fit kindle, suncream, sanitary stuff, and a mini water bottle and maybe a few bits of makeup in or my headphones in it.
  2. how hard wearing are they? Basically I want to be able to pull on, and trot around for miles digging in and out and not worry about strap breaking. *looks at current bag.
  3. Are they comfortable? Especially with stuff in, or are they actually just made for a few bits like your phone and a lipstick and that’s it?

This is the one I’m looking at for the summer > https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/round-mini-crochet-bag-468659.html?dwvar_468659_size=SIZ999&cgid=IDbags1551

If you don’t think it would work, do you have any suggestions? It’s for walking around hot cities for days on end.

Thanks in advance x

I have 2 - one cord, one material. I love them. They fit purse, keys, phone, my kindle, sunglasses case or small water bottle/umbrella, earphones in a case, and a snack. They've been fairly hardy so far but I do rotate my bags. Comfort-wise, you can adjust the length and wear it as a shoulder or cross-body (I do the latter).

Honestly they're so affordable I'd give one a go! However I'm not sure if the crochet would have as much "give" to stuff it full.

LeopardLover82 · 09/06/2024 08:47

Ooh thanks @HandsDown84 - sounds positive!

Good point on the crochet, what material is the material one, if that makes sense?!

They are good...I have a couple of the cord ones (and a few more dupes from Primark as well!).
They def arent 'kitchen sink' bags but you can easily fit a really good amount in. Decent sized strap too so it doesnt dig in.

shockeditellyou · 09/06/2024 08:51

I have one of these and use it exactly as you describe. Just back from the US where it was my day bag - held phone, passport, wallet, umbrella with no problems. It’s comfy too.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/06/2024 09:09

I think the kindle would be your problem. I'm not sure it would fit in.

FeltCarrot · 09/06/2024 09:11

I have the crochet one and my dd has several of the nylon ones. We shared usage of the nylon ones on holiday a while back and could easily get small bottle of water, small umbrella, purse phone etc in them.

Will try later and see how much I get get in the crochet one without it looking too jam packed!

Bichette · 09/06/2024 10:07

I can fit my mini iPad in mine, so I think a Kindle would be ok.

MrsWhites · 09/06/2024 10:16

I’ve got two - neither of them are the crochet one though so not sure if the material makes a difference to how much you can squeeze in.

I took mine to Disney World last year so super comfortable if you can wear them for a full day at Disney.

Off the top of my head I fit in, suncream, water bottle, sunglasses, small purse, lip balm, tissues, phone, plasters etc with ease.

One of mine is cream and got really dirty there so I threw it in the sink with a bit of washing liquid - came out absolutely fine so quite hard wearing too.

HandsDown84 · 09/06/2024 10:18

My Kindle Paperwhite fits fine!

The material is polyamide. Sort of feels like a bomber jacket.

Elebag · 09/06/2024 10:23

Mine is very hard wearing and comfortable.

Agree with the others that the kindle might be a bit of a squish. I can get an umbrella and small water bottle in mine. It is like a tardis, I sometimes think I've forgotten my phone / keys / earbuds etc, but they're just hidden at the bottom.

Mine does

Are the primark ones significantly different to the Uniqlo ones? Love no where near Uniqlo and the postage doesn't make it worthe and online order.

sorry to crash your thread OP

LeopardLover82 · 09/06/2024 14:09

Ahh thank you everyone, this is all very positive! Feeling quite pleased at the prospect of a little tardis as I like to be prepared!

@FeltCarrot thanks in advance that would be super helpful!

@determinedtomakethiswork don’t apologise! I’m interested too! X

Virtually identical size and shape.
The Primark ones have a zip pocket on the outside and a zip pocket inside whereas the Uniqlo ones just have the open pocket inside.
Bonus for Primark you can sometimes find them on sale for £4!😀

paristotokyo · 09/06/2024 14:24

My kindle fits in along with a small water bottle. iPhone, coins purse, lip balm, hand cream and chewing gum Grin I have the nylon one and it's pretty hard wearing I use it daily. Not sure how the crotchet ones hold up though and if they are restricted a bit due to the material in terms of space?

FeltCarrot · 09/06/2024 16:17

Didn’t get as much in as I thought without it looking too bulky…
Sunglasses case, purse, kindle paper white and small water bottle.
It is lined, so no fear of stuff poking through the crochet.

I have a stone coloured one…..carry it on hols with glasses in case, small purse, small hairbrush, lipstick, eyebrow pencil, small pack of wipes, pen and passport ….I wouldn’t want anymore in it than that….would be overloaded and pull on my back …..am happy with it tho

Elclr · 09/06/2024 16:33

I have two from Uniqlo and a Sainsburys version. Looking in the one I'm using this week...I can fit my wallet, phone, ear buds, keys, sunglasses, a small bottle of perfume, two hair clips, 3 lip balms, a small battery pack and most importantly....my standard Kindle.

I love them. Thought they were a fad but fully converted.

LeopardLover82 · 09/06/2024 16:40

Thank you everyone! I am now deciding between crochet or fabric and trying to tell myself I don’t need both!

thank you especially to @FeltCarrot for testing it out for me! X

I went to a primark today and compared theirs to my Uniqlo one. The pocket in the primark one looked useful but the material is very different, primark one looks shiny and cheaper looking but it’s £7.99 so probably a good cheap alternative.

TheOGCCL · 09/06/2024 21:20

A fabric one has more longevity into other seasons. It's like a parachute material. I feel like the crochet one is very summer specific and might get dirty quick as you sort of have to grab it to open it up if wearing it across you.

huntersmum · 09/06/2024 23:15

I have the crochet one and fit loads of stuff in but I’m sure the label said not to get it wet so I don’t use it if a downpour is forecast. I also have the nylon one in green and cream and I think you can get more in the nylon ones.

murasaki · 09/06/2024 23:38

I have a cord one, and on holiday recently, so out for six hours at a time, had a water bottle, phone, battery pack and cable, foundation, mirror, lipstick, keys, wallet, and it was fullish, but not overly so.I'm going to get a more summery one as mine is black, but do like the cord. I use the kindle app on my phone if i need it when out.

murasaki · 09/06/2024 23:40

Mine has two small pockets on one side inside, so that houses keys, mirror, lipstick for easy access.

Weelegs29 · 09/06/2024 23:42

I got the black nylon one just to use on holiday last year and I couldn't actually tell you where my normal handbag is now as the Uniqlo one has become surgically attached to me! The only issue I have is a mild panic now and again when I think 'oh crap I've lost my bag' because its that comfortable I actually forget I'm wearing it 😅
