All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

FYIAD
if you feel like splashing out, Calmurid is the creme-de-la-creme of replenishing foot creams - podiatrist told me you don't even need to cheese-grate prior to application!

Hello All.

Got into work late today due to last minute poop by ds just before we left for childminder then having to clean up cat's pee protest from living room floor.

Yesterday:
muesli
tinned mackerel,asparagus and egg salad
1/2 bar Green and Blacks dk choc
chicken, rice and 2 veg for dinner
1/2 glass of wine
milky coffee
Not quite enough water
Bed after 11.00 (going downhill...)

Today:
Got off at Green Park tube and walked to Fleet Street (1/2 hour including unscheduled meander into Top Shop - who am I kidding?) to go to bank then on to work in Holborn.

I did enjoy the walk.

Anyone read What was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn? Really good.

Re exfoliators: Anyone know a good home made recipe for body? I know salt and olive oil supposed to be good but in what proportions and coarse or ground salt? I used to use EXFO by Estee Lauder but can no longer justify the price. I'd rather spend on facial cleansers like Eve Lom or Liz Earle but will have to check out Tesco version too!

Love2dance · 16/04/2008 14:08

What's a Moron?

marina · 16/04/2008 14:10

Sorry Love2Dance, it was sobernow's nickname for an Omron pedometer. They can be got from Amazon, are not cheap, but work really well whether in a pocket, clipped to a bra strap/belt, or in a bag. They also show how many steps per day are aerobic (hence "outdoor steps") and how many cals you have burned off.

Love2dance · 16/04/2008 15:57

Ahhh. Thanks marina.

FYIAD · 16/04/2008 16:02

bundy I really like the Body shop blue corn face mask for deep cleansing/exfoliating - have tried many over the years but that really makes my face feel fantastically clean - I am not a body shop fan generally but I keep going back for that!

foxinsocks · 16/04/2008 16:15

hello all.

I have scanned the thread as it's been so long since I posted (forgive me father for I have sinned lol)

Enid - Bio-Ears. They did save my marriage. Dh's snoring is EXTRAORDINARY. He told me that when he goes away on trips, he can see me smiling as I wave goodbye to him lol. The foam ones really hurt my ears too. The wax ones, like Bio-ears, are much softer and you mould them round the outside bit rather than inside. They don't block as much sound but probably enough to get you off to sleep.

I have done nothing but put on weight on this thread, probably due to my proximity to biscuits now that I am back in the office .

I am on leave this week and LOVING not commuting. We are off for a few days round Bath way and then back to work on Monday.

I daren't post what I have been eating and on Friday, I drank a whole bottle of wine and half a bottle of champagne at a leaving party so am now TOTALLY off booze for the forseeable future (my poor liver).

I MUST start looking after my hooves soon as summer will be here sooner than we think I reckon . I will have to dig out the awful wee smelling demon stuff flexitol and get on with it so I'll use the thread to remind me!

foxinsocks · 16/04/2008 16:15

oh you can get them in boots (bio ears)

FYIAD · 16/04/2008 16:20

bioears they sound marvellous

foxinsocks · 16/04/2008 16:28

I find I don't need them as much now....think I am more sensitive to the snoring when I have PMT too (or maybe it's just that I find myself hovering over his head with a pillow in my hands more often at that time of the month)

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/04/2008 20:38

arf @ bio ears.

Is 'bundy' MrsClinton?

body scrub/exfoliator - I'm addicted to Crabtree & Evelyn rice scrub. Suzywong had a recipe for something very similar that she posted on one of our bootcamp threads recently...

I've done 8500 steps with my newly mended arse back. All outdoors too. Mothers visit wasn't as bad as expected, she pointed out all the weeds and I pointed out the gardening tools. Took her to Penshurst Place nr Tunbridge Wells this afternoon - lovely house, Elizabethan gardens and fabulous adventure playground and only £20 for 5 of us (under 5s free).

Have eaten toast & marmite; chocolate biscuit; cream cheese sandwich; bolognese; apples, raw carrots & plums. Lots of water and rather too many coffees.

Have just hayed & watered animals and am now off for shower & rice scrub and wee-smelling Flexitol. I've had a good day.

Iota · 16/04/2008 20:39

bio ears and bottom butter on the boobs

lovely

WideWebWitch · 16/04/2008 20:45

FIS, hello, welcome back and lol at your grinnning as dh disappers

dofn, glad your joints have been popped back, eww.

Marina, yes, on the books, it's if you're talking to me your career must be in and the other one you said. I am to admit that I've been reading TRASHY books from charity shops /00.1p from Amazon on my journeys and have been thoroughly enjoying them and finding the time flying, so that's good. I think I need to go again tomorrow, am getting through about 4/5 books a week atm.

Bundle, hmm, something is better than flexitol? Do Boots have it? Have run out of Flexitol so may try that

love2dance, that's loads of walking, well done. and good on food

iamdingdong, that's a nice compliment from your dh, marvellous

Marina, hmm at egglet but hey, there's NONE left in our house so I am impressed I think!

Enid, your dd likes reggae reggae sauce? Blimey.

Saggars, how old's your oldest? Quaking at the idea of driving lessons

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/04/2008 21:53

ds1 is 19 www [ not sure how that happened . I have ds2 coming up to 17 (so starting with the driving thing again) and dd is 14.

Norks - glad you've been realigned.

I'm not sure anything is better than flexitol (for the price) I always seem to come back to it. Cut the top off the tube www if you haven't chucked it - there's always loads still lurking inside!

Looking forward to the end of the week - work has been hellish, but I've avoided the booze so far this week in spite of that.

Will try bio ears next time I wander into Boots. They may just save me from smothering dh.

Prufrock · 16/04/2008 22:00

I'm still being good, though I did have a kit-kat (double sin, chocolate and Nestle, but the swimming pool vending machine didn't have any non nestle chocolate)

The children still have a tin each full of mini eggs, and I'm valiantly ignoring them.

Can't believe some of your kids are learning to drive - I only passed my test 3 years ago myself!

MrsC I do recommend the dermalogica facial exfoliator - it makes your face feel gently polished every day. V. interesting programme today btw - I realised that John and Lizzies use a form of enhanced recovery after c-sections - my epidural was left in for 2 days to deliver super strength drugs and I had an exercise programme and laxatives to help bowels along - made recovery so much quicker than first time round on NHS

unknownrebelbang · 16/04/2008 22:28
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins on ex bike. Work stopped play with the walk today, and may well do tomorrow.
  • Lots of weak tea/water.
  • Apply body cream lax
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, 11ish last night.
  • Eat healthily, catching up with fruit and salad, along with the choc...

Grrr today at kids (mine and others); supply teacher; karate; upper management, and whilst myself, our dep manager and a colleague are all tearing our hair out for various reasons......two relief staff sitting doing sweet fa, ffs.

and breathe.

WideWebWitch · 17/04/2008 07:34

yesterday

100g granola
apple
banana
M&S superfoods salad, cous cous, asparagus, broccoli etc (350 cal)
M&S vegetable wrap (250 cal)
salmon steak
green beans
carrots
new potatoes
wine in front of The Apprentice

used sunscreen
plenty of water

OP posts:
tharsheblows · 17/04/2008 10:02

copying urb's list - yesterday:

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No exercise, boo.
  • almost enough water
  • Body cream slathered
  • Use hand cream yes, but not enough
  • Go to bed early, 11ish last night.
  • Eat healthily, except for dinner out with dh

All this talk of exfoliators is making me want one. I have a sample of Dr Brandt's micro-dermabrasion which is fab and like rubbing my face with nice smelling finely ground glass. Am going through that fairly slowly so can wait to buy something.

Thanks for info on book MrsC. I read the worst book ever a couple of weeks ago - Utterly Monkey by Nick Laird (I think). It was tedious and slow and really just awful. Shudder. Don't read it. I just wanted something fun... (whinge whinge)

Will the flexitol or the one bundle mentioned help my toes? My heels look ok, but toes are a bit urgh-ish and not pink and smooth and lovely. Love2dance, my aunt and I made exfoliators last summer by whizzing up salt (just cooking salt) a few drops of water and a little bit of olive oil or whatever oil. The water is key and I like it best when it's not too oily and no oil on top. Just have a play, I guess. I did it with sugar too, but sugar has a weird smell I think unless you use something smelly with it.

Marina, hee hee at you stomping around the City.

fis, sounds like you're high on the happiness front? Have a lovely time in Bath.

I got this skirt which is slightly strange but really suits my figure, I think. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to wear with it? I was thinking a fitted t? Could I wear it for a night out at Shoreditch House (have never been and no clue what to wear) or is it too casual?

tharsheblows · 17/04/2008 10:09

slight panic that someone will think that I think I'm some hot young thing, I just meant the skirt suits me relative to other things I could wear, not that I am the perfect shape for the skirt. I am a lumpy old thing with Spanx. If that makes any sense.
