All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Clare is horrible. Manipulative, patronising and really rather stupid.

It'll just be the Royal London that's crap then batters - I was given very occasional shots of morphine into my thigh post operatively, and voltarol orally, which of course clogged up my digestive system even more, and they didn't even tell me until day 4 that I needed to produce a crap before I could go, which got me chomping on apricots and curry. I do find it appaling that best practice protocols which aren't even rocket science, but could make people so much happier, are not put into place across hospitals.

Love2dance · 17/04/2008 13:49

Hello there,

FIS: If in Bath and you like fish, the restaurant Fishworks is really nice. Nice specials and you can pick your own from front.

Tharsheblows: skirt is lovely. I got a similar knee length one but haven't worn it yet . If it's for evening you could do simple top plus cropped jacket in similar colour. Would also look nice with fitted high necked blouse (sort of twisted secretary look or - if you read Grazia - rather "Primbo"). Both with heels. Who am I to make suggestions, sitting here (working at home today) in old pair of cords and baby mucky fleece.

Really fancy a Kit Kat now...

MrsClinton · 17/04/2008 14:19

wow prufrock, that sounds great. and I'm glad you're paying attention most of my listeners are asleep!

not sure about calmurid on toes - it really zaps hard skin but if it's a manky toe situation i'd be asking re: fungal infections first. a good podiatrist will set you right, emma supple is really nice if you're anywhere near north london.

LoveAndSqualor · 17/04/2008 15:12

Hello all, sorry I've been awol again ... just zooming through to catch up on what people have been up to, on way to change DS's nappy (can smell him from here) and wanted to say at speed

Duchess, I too am a possessor of hypermobile joints (none of yer yoga for me). Was advised to do strengthening stuff (pilates and the like) to keep everything in place (though not while up duff, obviously). It gave me a cracking bad back while pg, also sorted by someone clunking things back into place ... Hope yours resolves!

Tharsheblows (love the name ) - that is a fabulous skirt, and I would wear with a fitted t-shirt and probably some sort of fitted jacket over the top. Lovely. And maybe some flat shoes if you can get away with it (my own work-horse ankles generally militate against such footwear where a skirt is involved, alas).

My appetite has finally returned, happily, so am now eating plenty of food and trying to keep it healthy where possible (so walnut and apple cake rather than chocolate cake, chez L&S). Drink lots of water and went for a nice walk around the park this morning. One bad thing is that my back is buggered, I imagine from all the giving birth and subsequent poor breastfeeding posture, so am back to the chiropractor myself tomorrow to see if I can get it sorted. oooh and the best thing - went to the pub at the end of the street for a glass of wine with a friend last night - first child-free outing! Bliss.

terrible-ish day diet/wheat-free wise but great fun none the less

big glass tepid water
tea
baked beans

then went to a friends for lunch and had...

LOADS of pretzels and olives
huge portion of lasagne
lots of salad
2 pieces of friend's homemade plum cake [divine]
3 chocs (well they were from Fortnums)
at least I said NO to wine and drank lots of water

am feeling very very full and bloated

one person commented on healthy looking skin and one commented on weightloss

very little exercise but I DID do pilates last night when my trainer said I was developing 'definition' in upper arms

am looking forward to slumping on sofa with dh tonight.

FYIAD · 17/04/2008 16:52

moonshine · 17/04/2008 18:22

Hello. Am posting having only skimmed thread (sorry, I hate doing that but being back at work has knocked me for six this week and making myself post something helps me back into bootcamp mode. And I too do not understand a lot of what's going on).

WWW - I am rattling with pills atm in my experiment to conquer my pms, especially after this month's dose when I nearly ended my marriage and said a few too many home truths to my new boss. I am taking Magnesium OK, eps and agnus castus (not sure what the dr would say about my self-medicating with so many things but this is turning into an emergency).

Re: snoring - am I the only one who solves the problem with swift kicks and sharp elbowing?

Batters - I have not tried 'those' jeans yet as £100 is a bit steep for us atm and so I bought some £12 M&S ones which do a job. But I do intend to try sometime soon if we ever manage to catch-up money-wise.

I've been bad - drank a whole bottle of wine last night and finished the Xmas Baileys with my pizza and banoffi pie . Bad bad week at work and, as usual, I turn to food. Still, at least I am going to the gym regularly and eating lots of fruit.

I am also on a mission to turn my brillo pad knees into normal ones so I am: body-brushing, exfoliating, moisturing with industrial cream and trying a lightening cream. Will give it 4 weeks by which time I will have got fed up with my new project anyway.

marina · 17/04/2008 19:28

moonshine - I've had a terrible day as well, total sympathy
Our computer system has crashed and burned AGAIN
FYIAD's suggestions are tip-top for that lovely skirt JJ
Have to go to choir practice and think happy thoughts now

marina · 17/04/2008 19:29

Have also skimmed thread, not walked, sulked, drunk coffee, snapped at dim bulb colleague and sulked some more, sorry guys

iamdingdong · 17/04/2008 19:34

moonshine I do elbows, kicks, loud tuts then he goes in the spare room - most nights in fact

ate nothing until 4.30 today no wonder I felt a bit faint at the gym, have made up for it since though and as I'm still on hols til Monday I shall continue to do so! Had too much wine and easter egg last night too

re various queries on skincare I have just started using the perfom and protect stuff from boots and it is rather fab I have to admit

WideWebWitch · 17/04/2008 20:48

Thanks Moonshine, must try those
Oh NO Marina, oh no. Will it be maybe not as bad as last time?
Iamdd you must eat you know!

Can I add a PE pizza to my long list of crapness today?

Hey, it's Friday tomorrow
and I'm going to bed in a minute

iamdingdong · 17/04/2008 20:53

www it was an oversight, not a regular occurrence don't worry - in fact I'd say the opposite is generally true!

Sympathies to those not enjoying work atm. And hello L&S!

Busy day at home. Too many visitors this morning which kept me on my feet 'hostessing' and by lunchtime my back was painful again. I've had an hours sit down since dinner and it does seem better so hopefully I haven't 'clunked' out again.

I've eaten cereal; apple; raw carrots; cheese & biscuits; chicken curry, rice, naan bread & salad; another apple. Lots of water.

Face & hands yes. Had a latish night but did sleep (with socks on which now smell of wee Flexitol). Very tired tonight but I know it's not worth going to bed this early as it just means I'll be awake by 1 or 2am.

We might go to the Natural History Museum tomorrow if DH & I have the energy. Any tips on where to lunch with 3 DCs aged 3, 4 & 6?

tortoiseSHELL · 17/04/2008 21:17

Oh no marina!!!! I hope they have at least backed stuff up this time!

unknownrebelbang · 17/04/2008 21:41

Oh no Marina!

Hello L&S, nice to see you popping in on here.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins on ex bike.
  • Lots of weak tea/water.
  • Apply body cream lax, but I did do DS3's points, lol.
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, farrr too late by the time I'd sorted crying child which pushed everything else back. Then I did my usual of waking up and noticing DH wasn't in when he should have been and then I gave up when he did come, and I had to get up to let him in, having locked him out, poor sod.
  • Eat healthily, crap today, had a cheapo carvery lunch that was very good for how cheap it was.

Much better today thanks, had a productive meeting, a bitchfest, lunch and then one colleague stayed and helped me out for a couple of hours, we worked hard but laughed a lot.

Boy issues more settled today, although DS1 typical teenager tonight; only one relief today to deal with (or rather calm the dep after she'd gone cos she drove her crackers, I escaped into my meeting, lol). This one is so up herself it's ugly.

And my weekend starts here! I'm off tomorrow with DH, who's off most of the weekend, and the elder two are on camp, plus youngest on a hike on Sunday, so a peaceful weekend to look forward to.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/04/2008 23:26

I will join you on 10 years younger next week, WWW & co. My mother is staying this week and I am drifting along in a haze of gin. It's the only way I can get through it.

marina · 18/04/2008 09:42

Salut. So you are currently in the 20 Years Older Maternal Holding Centre then MrsS? I imagine this to be the emotional equivalent of standing in the departure lounge of Ebbsfleet "International" with a metal bucket on your head, while your mother hits it with a stick and shouts parenting tips at you.
Well I walked today and am drinking water now. Thanks all for good wishes. This is definitely "just" a mechanical hitch, I am told, but we need it like a hole in the head. Hmm.
A good bootcamping day to all. Glad your weekend is looking to be a peaceful one ureb, and that work is looking up.
Duchess, I'm afraid I know all too little of nice places to eat near the NHM. We are picnicking cheapskates in SW7...
But near the tube station there are lots of nice looking places. About a 7 minute walk from the museum itself of course...

tharsheblows · 18/04/2008 09:51

Oh Marina, huge sympathies. When my computer died a few years ago, the woman who rang to tell me the data was irretrievable was a suicide prevention counselor! The data recovery place did that as a matter of course for anyone who's lost everything. You'd think I'd have learned and would back up everything now... (adds "back up computer" to to-do list).

Thank you all for the compliments and suggestions what to wear with the skirt. And thanks for note that it will be ok at Shoreditch House - am quite nervous about going for some reason. Sounds like I can get away with a cheap and cheerful top and some cool shoes. Excellent!

Am sitting by the phone waiting for consultant to ring back as DS1 needs an mri from hi-tech scanner at GOSH, the Portland radiologist said theirs isn't good enough, and he has to request. They can do it today if he gets the message and does his bit. I am stressed waiting for him to ring me back. Maybe if I start in on the lasagne I have planned for dinner then he'll call? Or would nipping to the loo do?

yesterday:

  • Sunscreen at all times - yy
  • No booze - yy
  • Jogged but inhaled tree fluff and had coughing fit, so not a great jog
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day - ?? could do better
  • Body cream slathered
  • Use hand cream - yes but not enought
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos - just after 11pm
  • Eat healthily - very high fruit and veg intake, whoo hoo
  • Be happy - very stressed all round but managing
tharsheblows · 18/04/2008 09:57

Might be too late for museum trip but there is a Giraffe here. I like it because you can go up to the park, run around and then eat.

FYIAD · 18/04/2008 10:30

10.11 this am yay am aiming for 10.10 on monday

hand cream - ahve NOt been doing and hands resemble 80 year old washerwomans

tepid water
tea
porridge with banana and blueberries this am

about to eat wheat-free cereal bar
then oatcakes with chili jam and low-fat philly, apple, raisins

Prufrock · 18/04/2008 10:57

Ooh Enid spooky - I weighed in at 11.1 on Sunday (at night) and have also managed to get to 10.11 this am! But I do always weigh less in the morning.
Sympathies MrsS - my MIL is arriving this afternoon. But it's the weekend so i can medicate with wine. I took a tip from www last night and kept on telling myslef "I am not a person who drinks during the week" and it worked.

Been keeping up with everything, but did lick out bowls of brownie mixture yesterday. Have used a huge amount of handcream but they are still awful after 2 mammoth gardening sessions, but I do now have spinach, carrots and chard planted along with my onions/shallots and garlic.

Marina I do hope this one is easier to deal with. I know the person responsible for IT is a valued colleague but can't you take a tip from the private sector and just kick him up the arse?
