Just bought some clothes from this company but before I make a complete prat of myself in public. How do you say it?

in my head I’ve always thought of it as Me and Em (as in me and my mate Emily). Is that right?

That's how I read it too

gardenisblooming · 04/06/2024 22:01

I've spoken about it with friends for a number of years, and we all call it that.

What is the alternative way to pronounce it?

Pablova · 04/06/2024 22:07

So in 2007 my friend Emma and I came up with The Pyjama Room, a business based on beautiful, comfortable clothes to hang out in at home and remortgaged our houses to fund it. Like me she had tiny children and wanted a change.
We later rebranded ourselves as Me + Em offering designer-quality basics for busy women.

I bought the most fabulous pair of pyjamas from you then. I had them for many, many years. They were a taupe/mink colour and were so soft and comfortable, I loved them. Thank you! I still buy from Me + Em 🙂

Rhymes with B & M !

Chickydoo · 05/06/2024 08:06

@Pablova I adore ME&EM, that said wanted to place an order for a 'new in' top yesterday and it's already out of stock 😭. You are evidently doing very well. Great clothes and lovely quality.

DancingNotDrowning · 05/06/2024 11:51

I say it as you do but on a ridiculous insta account of follow an American pronounce it:

” Em - Eee - plus - Em” Shock

They phoned me last week and definitely said "me and em".

I didn't even consider it might be like ba&sh. You definitely say that as "bash" though right?

worriedgal · 05/06/2024 14:27

@Pablova
Absolutely love your clothes- flattering and beautiful but you really need to sort the snobby staff out in your Marylebone store !

Due to many, many errors over the years I would not say any of them out loud until I had heard someone else say it. 😂

Yes!! I too am obsessed with your clothes (thrill to see you here on MN!) and buy them every chance I get but totally agree re the staff in the marylebone shop

CreamOrJamFirst · 05/06/2024 14:52

Though in trying to talk about the aforementioned company I have today referred to them as Em+Me and M&Co. Wrong and much wronger. So possibly I am simply beyond hope.

@Pablova I love your clothes. My black palazzo pants are my favourite wardrobe staple. I absolutely love them and they've lasted forever!

gardenisblooming · 05/06/2024 17:31

@worriedgal @Newnamesameoldlurker I'm so glad I'm not alone. I have complained to their head office about the staff in Marylebone. I've been in on numerous occasions, at different times of day/days of the week, and I am never even acknowledged when I go in. (this isn't because they are busy with other customers). I was wondering if it was just me, and I do think I am visibly a potential customer. In fact, last week I approached one of them to ask for help with matching something to some trousers I already have from there, and they were most unhelpful. I actually left and then ordered what I wanted on their website. I refuse to give my sales to that store anymore.

Total contrast to the rest of the shops in Marylebone!

gardenisblooming · 05/06/2024 17:33

I should also add, that I do love your clothes @Pablova and my collection is growing :)

Particularly love the ultimate crew neck vest!

AgathaMystery · 05/06/2024 17:38

Ahhh it’s not just me in the Marylebone store then??? I had such a terrible experience that I now only buy ME+EM on vinted because it was that bad.

I noticed yesterday that Nicky from the blog Midlife Chic (who I love) has had a similar experience. She did a brand spotlight on her blog recently. She said the same thing!

Strawberriesaregoingoff · 05/06/2024 17:41

Cripes re Marylebone they need to up their game!

InterrudelyUpted · 05/06/2024 17:50

I've also had the same offhand-bordering-on-rude treatment from the Marylebone staff nearly every time I've been in!! FFS...

And like a previous poster I also really liked Nicki from Midlife Chic's dive into the brand this week, I love her blog... she mostly does much more high street labels and it's good to have a mix.

Of course like pretty much everybody else I can't afford to buy lots of clothes from them as it's v expensive.... but I absolutely love the clothes and consider them worth the investment as everything I have bought has been so lovely and wearable. I'm 5'7" and LOVE the long length on the palazzo travel jeans.

This season's stuff is fab. I could drop like two or three thousand pounds in the blink of an eye if I had the money...

JigMap · 05/06/2024 18:03

I adore ME+EM and dress almost exclusively in it - it just fits me so well and I love the structured - unstructured look that the brand offers as well as the strong colours and the way that so much coordinates every season. @Pablova My only gripe (apart from the postage charges which I think are a little out of order given your already steep prices) is your use of very young models and influencers. I feel that it is kind of insulting that you overlook what must surely be your key customer base in this way and I wish that you took a brand such as Baukjen as an example of one that honours its target audience by featuring older models more.

Apart from that, you’re pretty damn ace so please keep on doing what you’re doing 😄

examsexamswxamsexams · 05/06/2024 18:14

For balance! There is (was) a staff member in your Battersea Power Station store who is lovely! And actually the Kings Road staff have always been very nice! Never been in the Marylebone store- don't think I will!

examsexamswxamsexams · 05/06/2024 18:15

I am more than happy to do an secret shopper undercover visit to Marylebone to test out the staff in return for some free clothes😀

Chocolateteabag · 05/06/2024 18:22

Just for balance - when I visited the new Me&Em store in Edinburgh (on George St near Anthropologie) - the staff were lovely

They had to go get my sizes as I'm not a 10 and no I wasn't dressed like I was " ready to spend money"

Didn't buy anything as the fit wasn't right (long body for dresses and too tall for the wide leg jeans to look right)

But they were lovely and helpful and didn't seem to mind

TriciaMcMillan · 05/06/2024 18:25

I think Pablova is just reposting a quote from an interview with the founder, she's not actually Clare Hornby!
