I recently got some Saltwater sandals. Super comfy & I can walk forever in them.

Wolky! I am a size 9 E got 8 pairs of them ! Expensive but really supportive and comfortable

Another size 9 Wolky fan. I have quite a few pairs now. They are £££ but they are all still in excellent shape. I'm about to replace the footbed in my mules.

A few pairs were too narrow & I returned them. But mostly I can wear their normal width shoes even though my feet are quite wide.

I think all the Hotter sandals are ugly, which is a shame as I have two pairs of their wide fit winter boots and I love them. Agree that there's slim pickings for non-frumpy smartish sandals for wide feet. I have a pair of Skechers Go Walk Arch Fit sandals which are super comfy, supportive and not too flat. I don't care about brands or whether some people think they're for oldies. I'm 56 so I'm practically an oldie and they look nothing like the hideous beige Dr Scholl orthopaedic sandals my grandmas used to wear in the 1970s. That's what I think of as 'old lady' sandals.

Do you mean these Scholl sandals?

I love these! I had some in the 70s as a child and my mum wore them too. (Her own pair, not mine 😄).

witmum · 02/06/2024 08:05

These arrived yesterday and for £20 are really good. They fit my wide (and large) feet. Normally M&S and new look wide and size 8.

Otherwise sketchers are very good.

lol, noooooo 🤣
I had those as well in the seventies and I loved them too! A lovely red pair, I was so proud of them!
No, my grans both wore beige leather full sandals with adjustable straps and room for their bunions - proper old lady really wide sandals, at least to me they were ‘old lady’ sandals because nobody else seemed to wear them 🤣
A bit like this, but with a sort of T bar and buckle:

Connie

Lightweight, supportive and ultra-adjustable, our ever-popular Connie comfortably fits a range of swelling. The premium Leathers are soft and kind while the spongy footbed and shock-absorbing sole gives you blissful, underfoot comfort.

I’ve just ordered a pair of Fitflop Gracie sandals (the two strap ones with buckles) from Amazon for £39.99.

ilovemoney · 02/06/2024 17:59

another vote for new look gold sandles. so comfy and getting lots of compliments and only £20

SereneHighnessPrincessTheresa · 02/06/2024 18:06

I love my karrimor sandals. Had a pair for years and so comfy, not sure if they're old lady sandals. Finally conceded a new pair was required this year and they're just as comfortable.

So do saltwater sandals really fit hobbit feet?? I have rectangular flat feet with no instep at all, you can see the whole outline of my foot when I stand on sand. I wear extra wide fit and shoes are very tricky. I have a pair of vegan Tevas that fit and are really comfy but are a bit dull. I've had some luck with New Look. but it's trial and error. Recently got a pair of extra wide fit platform sandals from Next which are nice too. I've just ripped the side of a a great pair I got from Schuh last year which is really annoying. I've just accepted that the shape of my feet means that I'll get through a lot of sandals.

PostMenPatWithACat · 02/06/2024 20:28

@eatreadsleeprepeat I have bought those for this summer. In neutral/silver. The fjrst time I wore them I walked 14000 steps and were like walking on air.

Saschka · 02/06/2024 20:29

Avoid Josef Siebel like the plague - super comfy, look great, but after 3 months f wear this happened. Sole snapped in half.

Apparently “normal wear and tear” and refused to refund. Looking on Trustpilot they have a lot of 1 star ratings saying the same thing, so clearly quality is poor (and they aren’t cheap).

I haven’t tried them myself but a PP said definitely not. They don’t look very wide.

Oblomov24 · 02/06/2024 21:28

I'm not keen on most of the above, as I find most of them too ugly.

Rocketpants50 · 02/06/2024 22:32

Fitflops - great for my fat feet and so comfy!
Saltwater are too flat for me but ok for fat feet
Teva for a more sporty look.
Or Birkenstocks or fatface ones.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2024 02:43

Vionic styles might suit.

That's shocking!
I'm on my 4th pair and have never had that happen.
I've only binned one pair, when they got too scruffy after 3 seasons and wading through a flash flood did for them.

Colinorpercy · 03/06/2024 09:32

I consider myself to have wide feet-struggle to wear regular fit strappy sandals and I find Saltwaters great-the original style. They are stiff when you get them but you wet them when on your feet then let them dry whilst wearing and they mould to the shape of your foot. I love them. They are quite flat though, however have started doing the thicker soled ones now in adult sizes which aren’t as flat.

That's interesting. I bought a pair of Josef Siebel boots from John Lewis a few years ago. Most I've ever spent on shoes and the heel came off after 3 weeks. Never had a pair of shoes break before. JL reluctantly refunded them

For me it's not the tightness, it's that the sole of the top end of my foot is considerably wider than the footbed of the shoe, so any sandal that isn't E width or more is a non-starter. When I tried the supposedly wide moshulu sandals, my foot was hanging way off the side of the footbed. Same with Birkenstock Gizeh that somebody recommended as good for wide feet. You can get away with it in normal shoes/boots to a point (although can't be good for your feet) but not in sandals. It looked ridiculous.
