Would you wear a bikini aged 44?

Size 12-14 5 foot 6 weighing 11 stones?

Ive bought 2 along with tankinis anyway but just wanted others' honest opinions please.

Big boobs and curvy bum, fat belly though 😩 . Ive lost 18 pounds but can still grab 2 handfuls of fat on my middle.

I walk 5 miles every day, got mum bingo wings and need botox but i think for 44 i don't look too bad.

What do you think?

Nobody should have an issue with bum cheeks surely!

I don't have an issue with them, I just don't want to look at other people's butts while I am trying to eat my nice lunch/ dinner or am chilling on the beach/ by the pool

just makes me wonder, did they wash properly?

just FYI in my regular job I have had to deal with a lot of butts in particularly unsavoury situations. didn't bother me. but when I am relaxing, I would rather not be reminded of that

I’m 66, curvy 14 and it’s bikini all the way. High waist briefs and uplifting top ( halters are good)

I went through my 40s and 50s in swimsuits and felt the oldest, frumpiest woman on the beach. How I regret those years now. I hated the tan across the shoulders and legs and then the big, white belly when I was naked. I looked like a whale.

I also realised that swimsuits made me look bigger ~ all that material stretched across my middle. In a two piece the fabric ‘cuts me up’ and gives me more defined shape. Tankinis were always too short in the body for me.

Of course I don’t look like those 24/34/44 year olds. But I look like an ok version of ME and I take pride in that.

Get a sarong and use it as a cover up and realise no one actually cares.

@theresnolimits What a great post, that is exactly my experience, down to feeling frumpy in a swimsuit but thinking I was too old and too far for a bikini. I'm off shopping tomorrow to get a black linen shirt cover up and may even buy another bikini!

I completely agree with all of these points you've made.

Do it. Like most things, it’s all in our heads.

(whispers) Unpopular opinion on this thread but I think anyone with a bit of a belly (and I include myself) looks far better in a bikini than a tankini.

Why? I’m an hourglass and have a bit of a belly and a halter neck tankini suits me better than a bikini, no doubt about it.

neverendingdebt · 31/05/2024 17:45

God, yes!!!

I am bigger than you and on trips to family in Europe, the beaches have all shapes and sizes and it empowered me not to feel conscious. My Mum still wears one in her late 70s!

ProfessorInkling · 31/05/2024 18:45

I've worn bikinis at every size from 10-18 and no one died, fainted, or was otherwise particularly perturbed. I don't think anyone gives a shit, really. I'm 44 and a 14-16 and don't feel like hiding away.

Christine1998 · 31/05/2024 19:10

Age doesn’t matter (as long as it’s age appropriate) if you feel comfortable and confident go for it.

5128gap · 31/05/2024 19:13

If I felt I looked OK in it then yes. I wouldn't on principle if I didn't feel comfortable or if I thought something different looked better. I wore them until about I was 50 (55 now) at which point I lost a couple of stone and got a crinkly stomach for my troubles, so now prefer to cover that with high waist bottoms and longer top so just an inch shows in the middle. (Which is kind of ironic really that my weight loss put paid to my bikini days!) It's just about finding what feels best (or in my case, least worst!) I think.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 31/05/2024 21:32

This is refreshing thread and great to see so much positivity! I'm only in my 30s but resorted to wearing swimsuits on holiday last year because I felt too fat for a bikini. I was a size 12 so I know it was all in my head, but I just felt horrible. After readinf this thread I'm tempted to go shopping and buy some lovely new bikinis and start ditching the plain swimsuits!

OP there are some really nice beach cover ups that you could throw on over your bikini . I wouldn't bother with a large hat or necklace which i think will draw attention.

You obviously never saw the photos of Peter Stringfellow in a thong.

AnnieSnap · 31/05/2024 21:44

Of course. You have a bikini body when you put a bikini on your body 🤷‍♀️
