Would you wear a bikini aged 44?

ymemanresu · 30/05/2024 14:55

Size 12-14 5 foot 6 weighing 11 stones?

Ive bought 2 along with tankinis anyway but just wanted others' honest opinions please.

Big boobs and curvy bum, fat belly though 😩 . Ive lost 18 pounds but can still grab 2 handfuls of fat on my middle.

I walk 5 miles every day, got mum bingo wings and need botox but i think for 44 i don't look too bad.

What do you think?

Yes. I just bought 2 and am same age as you.

tiggergoesbounce · 30/05/2024 19:28

Yes

StMarieforme · 30/05/2024 19:32

My late MIL's best friend wore one into her late 70s.

No one business but the wearer!

TheFluffiestCat · 30/05/2024 19:46

Depends how confident you are. I last wore one aged about 40, size 12, and was easily the biggest bikini-wearer on the beach. My shorts and top went back on pretty quickly.

Sweetdreams98 · 30/05/2024 19:57

Of course you can wear a bikini. Go for it, enjoy the feeling of the sun on your body.
I never pay attention to the other beachgoers. Nobody will pay attention to you.

Wow really , what beach?

zeibesaffron · 30/05/2024 20:33

Yes of course you should!! I am a size 18 - I don’t wear thong ones or anything but I have always worn a bikini 😀

ymemanresu · 31/05/2024 07:33

Great to hear the positivity.

Any belly hiding /distracting tips? Like an oversized hat , long wooden/shell/ beachy style necklace maybe?

No need for distraction techniques. You'll get more eyes on you for wearing a massive hat or statement jewellery than you would for having a normal body.

NeedWineNow · 31/05/2024 07:54

Following my previous post I tried on my bikini last night. I’ve a post- menopausal loss of waist and most definitely more fat overall than I’m comfortable with but I’m sticking with it. I told DH I looked square like SpongeBob SquarePants 🤣🤣🤣🤣. He said I looked lovely and shouldn’t worry, so I’m going with that!

MinnieMountain · 31/05/2024 07:55

Speaking as a regular swimmer, I never notice bodies. I notice antisocial behaviour or a particularly nice print on a costume/bikini.

WomenStuff · 31/05/2024 08:18

That's really unusual in the UK at least. I usually see lots of women of genuinely all sizes in all kinds of bikinis.

One thing that I think younger generations are getting right at the moment is wearing wtf they want regardless of size. It's liberating.

Edit was supposed to quote the post reporting being the largest on the beach!

stardust777 · 31/05/2024 08:40

OP, I think it's important to wear what you feel comfortable and happy in. I'm 40 and usually gravitate to tankinis (I'm very scrawny). It hasn't stopped me from wearing bikinis though. I think it's good you have a mix.

HelterSkelter224 · 31/05/2024 09:01

Wouldn't have occurred to me not to!!

Peclet · 31/05/2024 09:08

I think bikinis are far more attractive on me than a swim suit. I hate a Plain black swimsuit on me. Feels very unfun.

Wear anything you like. Get a cotton kimono style cover up to waft around in

you can get high waisted tummy control pants if that’s a concern. But go for a higher cut leg for a chic look.

i wouldn’t wear a long necklace or anything costume jewellery like as it will get wreaked. Also highly impractical.

Allschoolsareartschools · 31/05/2024 09:11

Yes, I'm 10 years older than you & can identify with grabbing a few handfuls!
But (after a lifetime of dieting & worrying how I look in front of others) I've decided I don't care, I'm not dieting anymore as it never works long term & I'll still be wearing that bikini.

This. "Distraction techniques" just a) draw attention and b) scream "LOOK AT ME I THINK I'M HIDEOUS". All you need to do is wear the bikini and get on with your life.

AuntieMarys · 31/05/2024 09:20

I wore a bikini for the first time ever in my early 50s. I am 6 feet tall and size 14.
No one ran away in horror !!!
I don't wear one now ( I'm 65) simply because I don't sunbathe.

Bignanna · 31/05/2024 15:20

therealcookiemonster · 30/05/2024 17:41

why are thongs not appropriate at 62?

They don’t look good on any age or figure!

Turisti · 31/05/2024 15:30

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/05/2024 15:02

Go to Spain or Italy and there are 90 yo nonne wearing them. Do what feels right and do it with confidence.

This. I'm in Italy and it's never occurred to me not to wear them. Everyone does!

Thongs look awful on everyone. Even on skinny people they remind me of Peter Duncan sumo wrestling.....🤔😆

Kitkat1523 · 31/05/2024 15:41

I wore one til I was 55 ( 59 now) …I’m 5ft6 and 9st

I agree they are awful (disgustingly unhygienic imo and i really don't want to see butts in public places where i may be eating) but don't think it suddenly becomes inappropriate at a certain age. if someone likes them, they should be able to wear them no matter the age

Nobody should have an issue with bum cheeks surely!

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 16:15

I wouldn’t, but then I’m self conscious about a few bits and few more confident and happier in a tankini or swimming costume. Your age shouldn’t have any bearing on whether or not you were one, if you feel comfortable wearing one then go for it.

Thongs are hideous - no-one wants to see your bare arse cheeks on display like some sort of baboon (apart from the types you probably don’t want staring at your bare backside) (or maybe you do).
