where do you find nice tops?

Help me, oh wise mumsnetters! My summer uniform used to be a dress with sandals, but due to ankle problems this year I am restricted to wearing clunky shoes and a foot brace, which I prefer to conceal under trousers. And so I am facing the problem of finding tops to wear with aforementioned trousers.
The specific activity is a semi-dressy weekend one: going to an exhibition, having lunch, seeing a play in the evening, etc. The location: London. Needs to work with flat clunky shoes (and a brace, but it is not visible).
On the bottom half I am wearing wide-leg trousers or jeans.
I would like to find interesting-looking and current tops that carry the outfit, so to speak, so not plain t-shirts. I also don't like shirts.
I am 5'4'', size 16, suit jewel colours (blue/navy, purple, forest green, teal, dark red) and black. No polyester due to the sweatiness factor.
In winter I wore nice jumpers, which were somehow much easier to find. Now I am stumped. Please help!

@GerbilsForever24, great links, thanks!

The first one is not too casual I think, just the colours are a bit disappointing - only black or white would suit me. I really like the black though! thanks!
The second one - I like broderie, but does it look a bit like a nightshirt?
The third one - won't work with a bra, and also tent-like potential...
Really like the fourth one (the three quarter sleeves) - in the black/white colourway.
The fifth one (statement florals) - does it give nightshirt vibes?
The sixth one is indeed too casual, plus the colours won't work on me...
The last one - the neck is ok (I am proportionally large of bust, if that makes sense - I am quite fat everywhere, in particular in the bust, but not exceptionally so), but something feels a bit off. Embellishment? Shiny triangles?

Thanks!

@Punsandroses, thanks, indeed should work without ironing! Also, I looked around Cotton traders, and they are surprisingly not bad at all. Nice colours, lots of crinkled stuff (so no ironing). I wouldn't have looked there myself, quite pleasantly surprised.

@Punsandroses aaand... we have a winner! The second one, the Ikat print from FatFace, is gorgeous! Ordering right away, thanks!
The first one is really cute too, I suspect the navy one will be better.

@DreadfullyUncool I've ordered two things from there (a boucle jacket and a hanky hem dress) and I kept both of them. I'd say on a par with any of the high Street.

PragmaticDramatic · 23/05/2024 18:53

If you have a Primark near you then they have some nice summer tops. I picked up a nice Broderie Anglaise blouse for £16 which would be twice the price in Zara.

FortunataTagnips · 23/05/2024 21:42

Seasalt and FatFace are usually good for tops in natural fibres and jewel colours. Also, Gudrun Sjoden might be worth a look.

Pippielk · 23/05/2024 21:51

If you are wearing wide leg trousers I think more fitted tops work best - show your waist and emphasise your curves at your waist and shoulders.

even wear a vest top with a shirt open over it….

@Goddessonahighway it does, doesn't it? A new brand for me. I like this one https://www.apricotonline.co.uk/relaxed-fit-v-neck-blouse/B19175-Green.html, the colour is gorgeous. How is the quality, do you know?

I don't have that one but I have several bits from Apricot and they're all good quality.

Gymnopedie · 23/05/2024 23:14

I've just found this one on Apricot too. Ignore that the link says pink and look at the green.

edited - sorry, just spotted it's polyester.

GerbilsForever24 · 23/05/2024 23:22

@DreadfullyUncool I like your choice too. Although I think the sleeves would bother me this time of year.

Absurdgiraffe · 23/05/2024 23:22

This? But in the green version

I bought two of these recently for going away on holiday - they come in about half a dozen colours. They do benefit from an iron - especially the rosette - but they are quite long in the body and have flattering sleeves. 50/50 linen/cotton. I got mine for under £30 because it was early May Bank Holiday weekend. Might work this weekend too!

I’m (size 10) slightly younger and my mum (size 18) is older but we both love these Darcy shirts from one hundred stars https://onehundredstars.co.uk/products/darcy-shirt-sunburst-grey?_pos=5&_sid=68b3678cb&_ss=r not quite full length sleeves and not sweaty. Loads of patterns and colours to choose from and probably due a sale soon. I wear mine with jeans and mum goes for something more floaty.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/05/2024 08:16

It get slammed on here but have a look at Kettlewell. They do seasonal colours and you can filter by season. I find their tops an absolute godsend. They always have the colours, the shops don't.

I've recently bought lot's of lovely Tops from Roman, very flattering but comfortable. Not what you asked but their cropped trousers are also amazing!

BreezySheep · 24/05/2024 12:16

Not sure if these are your taste, but I quite like https://www.sugarhillbrighton.com/collections/shirts-blouses

Hope you find something!

DreadfullyUncool · 24/05/2024 14:08

@FortunataTagnips thanks, indeed Fat Face was a pleasant surprise for me! Seasalt is a bit ... safe, maybe? not quite "coastal grandma", but not very current either. Gudrun Sjoden is colourful, but everything looks droopy, doesn't it? I feel like the clothes should counteract the natural droopiness, not amplify it, IYSWIM.

You assume that I have a waist :) I tend to go for half-tuck to lend some shape to the wide trousers and roomy top combo, and also make sure that the shoulders fit correctly. A vest and a shirt over it are nice, I just wanted something more interesting for a day out.

They have elasticated cuffs! I am counting on pushing them up if it is hot.
