Everyday dress for apple shape

Tiddlesem · 18/05/2024 19:47

Just following on from the thread the other day about summer dresses. I.am looking for some everyday dresses that I can wear that work for things like school run, going to playground etc. I think the main issue being that I am large chested 36GG and find it hard to find dresses that dont show too much cleavage whilst also being flattering as i am apple shaped so carry a lot of weight around my mid section. I am also 5 foot 5 and size 14ish and get lots of bloating from endometriosis. Would just love an everyday dress that is comfortable to wear whilst out and about with my 2 and 4 year old.

Same height and shape too….also following.

@TheBishopIsKillingMe I'm not alone that's good! I'm wondering if there any others out there like us that have found something that works for our shapes. Fingers crossed!

Sorry that link failed. Search for Tallie dress, I'm the same shape etc and this is always comfy and flattering. You can get older versions on eBay. I wish they did plain colours!

I also like this tho there is a bit of cleavage.

I generally find jersey dresses a good option and something more fitted on top , flaring below the waist the best fit.

I have a couple similar to this from previous years at Next but I’m older than you and would like something a bit longer.

I find straight up and down works best for me. Nothing that goes in at the waist or out at the hips.

Tiddlesem · 19/05/2024 14:15

@Tatapie oh I really like that black jersey dress! Love the shape. @TheBishopIsKillingMe the shift dress is lovely too but would love it in plain. Have read they are good for apple shapes. @junebirthdaygirl thanks will check out Dunnes also!

Have a look at Seasalt jersey dresses. There are a couple of designs which fit neatly at the bust, then drape over the rest of you. Very comfy when bloating hits me, so might work for you?

fortunetellingwizard · 19/05/2024 16:00

PS they wash and dry quickly too, and don't need an iron

N0tfinished · 19/05/2024 16:03

I'm a v similar shape & the White Stuff Everly dress is a fave of mine. I have 3 versions of it!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 19/05/2024 16:12

I really like this shape of dress with the attached tie waist

www.popsyclothing.co.uk/collections/frontpage/products/charis-book-tea-print-dress

I tie it to the side rather than in the middle, I have a few, my favourite being the spooky dinosaur print and have been stopped 3 times in the last couple of weeks by random people saying they love my dress.

Tiddlesem · 19/05/2024 17:49

Oh my word, thanks to everyone who left links this is great! I find summer so hard in regards to clothes and feeling comfortable but looking forward to trying some new styles

Have you tried Popsy Clothing? They have some really flattering wrap dresses and other shapes too, and they're designed to flatter. I am an apple shape (although my boobs are much smaller than yours) and I have several of their dresses, which always get compliments.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/05/2024 06:50

I'm a similar shape. I need to avoid wrap dresses or it's boobs everywhere, no dresses with a seam or belt at the waist either and empire line ,akes me look pregnant. Basically a shapeless sack dress (no seams from the shoulders down) works well.

StrawBeretMoose · 20/05/2024 12:02

If you’re wearing anything with a quite high neckline make sure you have a good bra that hoiks up your boobs. I am a similar shape and find a lower neckline slightly more flattering as the issue with a shift dress is the relative distance to the boobs makes them look bigger/lower.

Lottiedrynan on Instagram might be worth a look
