Your favourite Breton

Looking for a new summer Breton, I like navy with a white/nearly white stripe. I want a reasonably weighty fabric, not flimsy IYKWIM.

Not fitted, a bit of slouch would be good.

I LOVE a boat neck but a round neck is fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I've been looking for weeks and can't find anything!

Thanks, I like it, but fear the sleeves might be a bit short. I love the idea of a 3/4 length sleeve but I'm always cold!

I swear by the FatFace ones, they're a great weight and neckline

Swearwolf · 08/05/2024 10:54

I don't know if it counts as a Breton, but I just got this top and I absolutely love it:

It's really thick jersey and hangs beautifully, not too tight, and the sleeves give some summery movement but still cover the tops of my arms. I've been wearing it tucked into black culottes but it also looks nice with wide leg jeans.

You say you want something navy with a white/nearly white stripe, so that's a navy jumper with a single stripe? Or do you mean navy with white/nearly white stripes? 🤔

capelmustard · 08/05/2024 13:40

Multiple stripes @PylaSheight

Thanks for the suggestions, the long sleeve Seasalt looks good, I'll check out the Fat face now

Armor Lux or Saint James. Yes expensive but last super well.

MuscariFan · 08/05/2024 13:55

Baukjen bretons are not the cheapest, but much better quality than any other I've bought.

Riverlee · 08/05/2024 13:59

Crew Clothing Company was my first thought (and often sold cheaper through M and M direct).

Community Clothing - gorgeous and well made

My favourite Breton is Alan the First
(King of Brittany - died 907)

Probably because it seems such an unlikely name for a king and it makes me think of Alan Partridge.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 08/05/2024 14:28

I don't find Seasalt at all weighty for their Bretons. Fat Face are ok, Joules Harbour Tops are very reliable. Oddly enough Uniqlo turned up my absolute favourite ever one about 5 years ago, no idea if they still do them.

MrsScotland · 08/05/2024 16:09

They have a huge range - not just tshirts!

AnneNotEmily · 08/05/2024 16:13

the ones from sezane are quite weighty and look great on. They’re not cheap but I’ve been really pleased with mine: https://www.sezane.com/en/product/colette-mariniere/ecru-navy#size-xxs

pharmachameleon · 08/05/2024 16:18

I agree the Sezane Bretons are really thick and are lovely on. I am a fair blonde though and they only seem to make them in Ecru so I've sent every one back I've ordered. White would be better for me.

This plus more the genuine article not just a stripy t-shirt.

AnneNotEmily · 08/05/2024 16:47

@pharmachameleon have you seen the Sue style as that is described as white rather than ecru. https://www.sezane.com/en/product/sue-mariniere/maxi-white-stripes-blue#size-xs

This company makes amazing quality bretons. I found the sizing a bit tricky, they are very oversized so size down, but they are lovely quality and ethical. You do have to pay for returns P&P so bear that in mind.

I bought from here - Ivy T - and didn't like the top. It was £70 odd quid plus P&P. So not cheap. It was nice enough, but not that special for the price and was a bit frumpy on me.

Sent it back (I paid return p&p) and was refunded but they did not refund the cost if delivery to get it to me in the first place.

As long as you return it in the given timeframes as laid out in the Consumer Contracts Refs, they are required to refund the basic cost of shipping it to you.

I politely pointed this out and had a email exchange that went back and forth where i reiterated at least 2 or 3 times (providing links to the legislation etc) that it was my legal right to be refunded. They finally, begrudgingly accepted to refund but I was made to feel like they were doing me the favour.

As such I would steer clear of these folk.

pharmachameleon · 08/05/2024 17:43

Oh @AnneNotEmily I like that! Thanks
