Your favourite Breton

Looking for a new summer Breton, I like navy with a white/nearly white stripe. I want a reasonably weighty fabric, not flimsy IYKWIM.

Not fitted, a bit of slouch would be good.

I LOVE a boat neck but a round neck is fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I've been looking for weeks and can't find anything!

I bought a Petit Bateau Breton 11 years ago for £90 and still perfect. Thick material, more spring than summer.

My favourite Breton is Alan the First
(King of Brittany - died 907)

Probably because it seems such an unlikely name for a king and it makes me think of Alan Partridge.

St James

I had an Amor-Lux I got up many decades in St Malo, lasted years until I washed it filo thin.

Seasalt OK, although I find they shrink a bit over time.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 08/05/2024 21:34

I have this one and i love it.

Seasalt are nasty and poor quality. Avoid
St James Breton are excellent

WrongSortOfPoster · 08/05/2024 23:22

The Seasalt ones aren't poor quality or nasty but they're not in the same league as the St James ones.

Zone2NorthLondon · 08/05/2024 23:26

Seasalt are nasty & bad quality I unfortunately purchased one. Thin and badly cut. Charity shop donation followed

WrongSortOfPoster · 08/05/2024 23:30

That surprises me as I find their clothes to be good. Why didn't you ask them to replace or refund?

Zone2NorthLondon · 08/05/2024 23:34

TBH couldn’t be faffed with return and wouldn’t have wanted an alternative item. Gave it to charity shop. Won’t buy from them again it was a nasty item that hung like a shower curtain and was thin

WrongSortOfPoster · 08/05/2024 23:37

The shop in my high street has really nice clothes.

ASighMadeOfStone · 09/05/2024 06:07

Joules are the best quality I've ever had, but oddly, so heavy that they're almost a thin sweatshirt thickness, so the wear I get out of them is less. Once it actually gets properly warm, they're too warm.

Seasalt are pretty spot on for what I want in a stripy top. I've had some for years and they're still going strong.

Boden- last time I bought were dreadful. So thin and poor quality

I might look at Uniqlo, their plain t shirts are excellent but quality varies even within the same product - I will only buy in-store from them after ordering the same t shirt online and something coming that was a totally different quality. (same design /product code)

Chimchar · 09/05/2024 06:33

I bought one from Sainsbury's a few weeks ago. It's quite oversized, lovely heavy fabric.

Not washed it yet. https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc144026066

I have a St. James in the heavier cotton. It's 10 years old and still looks good.

BestIsWest · 09/05/2024 08:42

I have a couple of Seasalt ones and they seem good quality to me. But they are a bit short in the body for me.

I agree, I live near the St James and the quality of the St James brand is second to none, although they are quite pricey!
I love my St James Breton top but my favourite Breton is my husband 😀
