Not keen on Meghan's dress today, anyone got any details?

The colour is blah and it is far too long. Pity because I remember she had lots of great dresses when they went to Australia that could work well at this point.

gluenotsoup · 10/05/2024 11:54

Popping in! Apologies for not being around much , it’s gcse season 😬😬😵‍💫, no more explanation needed.
Char and Zar both look great 👍🏼

Harry looks good, Safari colours. Meghan it maybe too long, but it's backless which is interesting. It's 33c in the shade today. I'd be wearing loose and long.

Weirdly I watched a documentary on Nigeria last week. Abuja is not typical, it was created by American businesses and architects. The politician who visited (forget his name he does a lot of documentaries). Found it soulless and a Nigerian he spoke to said there was little crime because of the way it was dealt with. (Scary)

They then drove a few miles out of the city, it was a different story. I'll try to find it.

justasking111 · 10/05/2024 12:30

Sorry was Michael Palin, it's worth a watch on channel 5 which you can upload.

The style of Meghan’s dress is called “Windsor” which cannot be a coincidence!

it also comes in black, which I think would have been a better choice in terms of her colouring - although I’m not convinced a sleeveless, backless dress is a great choice for a school visit in a conservative Christian/Muslim country where the Muslims actually make up the majority…

Eaumyword · 10/05/2024 12:53

Seeing the dress on TV, it looks to be a nice apriciot colour but too voluminous, too long and like you say @Serenster, is a sleeveless backless dress appropriate for the visit?
Still it is a not-royal tour I suppose, so whatever 😂

I’m not convinced a sleeveless, backless long frock is appropriate for daytime, let alone a school visit. That colour makes everyone look washed out

MrsFinkelstein · 10/05/2024 13:49

I posted this on another thread about Meghan's dress.

I don't mind Meghan's dress. The fit is OK* for her, the colour isn't the most flattering to her IMO, but it's not bad. It's just way too long. Just below knee or calf length would have been so much more flattering and appropriate.

The backless fit is completely inappropriate to the situation (School visit and in a majority Muslim country). Would have been much more flattering and suitable as a vest top type fit or sleeveless with the back matching the front.

*edit to add - fit not bad by her usual standards, but still not fitted as well as it could be

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 10/05/2024 14:20

Not a fan of the dress. As others have said, the colour doesn’t do her justice, it’s far too long for her and the style is more suited to evening wear than a visit to the school. It also looks very crumpled. I’m keeping everything crossed for a bit of colour (praying for hot pink, orange, turquoise or a beautiful kitenge pattern).

Choux · 10/05/2024 14:28

I glanced quickly at the third picture and she almost looks naked!

gluenotsoup · 10/05/2024 15:07

The dress is ok, a bit bland in colour and style, too long and I totally agree it’s not a day visit to a school type of frock. I also don’t like her hair and eye brow styling today and she usually gets that right. Harry looks he always does.
Lovely Pics of the thread mascot 🥰

I'm hoping for a bright yellow - she looked amazing in the shift dress she wore in ?2018 in that colour.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 10/05/2024 16:04

She is a lovely rosy bronze colour on her front but is considerably paler on her back. Usually it wouldn’t be a problem but if you’re going to wear a backless dress why wouldn’t you bother to tan your back as well as your front?

That's one of my favourite looks. She can carry off strong bright colours.

The dress is too long. She must like that look though. Her hair looks like it needs a good conditioner. But she looks happy.

I noticed their trip came above William in Cornwall on the BBC. That won't go down well!!

Victoria in that pink looked amazing!!

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 10/05/2024 17:15

She’s had an outfit change. An all white pant suit by the look of it. I’m loving all the bright colours from the other ladies.

The traditional Nigerian fabrics are beautiful, so vibrant.

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/05/2024 17:26

I don’t have a problem with the dress being sleeveless - it’s apparently 36 degrees in Abuja today - but it needed to be shorter and that colour is unflattering on most people.

The white suit looks better. Is it VB?

Indeed. I have a Kemi Telford dress in similar fabric and it’s gorgeous.

The peach dress looks better in the video on the BBC, but the colour is not good, a really vivid green, or blue, or even her fav Khaki would have been lovely

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/05/2024 17:40

I wonder if she is being loaned stuff by designers and that’s why it’s too long or the fit is slightly off?

The white trousers look too long too but in the case of those it’s probably intentional. Too long is on-trend right now!
