Shampoo & conditioner for curly frizzy hair - advice pleeeaassee

I'm beginning to look like crazy hair woman.

I have long curly (aka frizzy) hair that if I don't find a remedy for soon will all be chopped off (I might do it tonight with a pair of kitchen scissors such is my desperate need)

I have thrown money at this particular problem, and already tried:

Phillip Kingsley - useless; Redken - makes my head itch; John Frieda - horrible; Waitrose organic - useless.

One of you lovely groomed MN stylistas must be able to help? Or am I getting too old for long hair anyway (I think I know what the response will be here..)

TIA

oh god, not chickenpox, poor you. will be over soon though. dose 'em up with piriton.

he was spinning around the playground with a friend who then let go of him. i got a phonecall which started "it's school. now, don't panic, but...". the whole side of his face is grazed, including his lip. but the swelling has gone right down, calpol, hot chocolate & mummy worked their magic.

totally off topic, but did you ever find out what was wrong with your ds last year?

Its no good. My hair really didn't look that great yesterday. And I gave in. I brushed it.

Have made an appointment to have it all chopped off. Then at least I stand a chance of having relatively sleek frizzy hair even if it is short.. And depressingly, I've realised that I'm getting too old to ever have it long again, because I'll probably be in my late thirties before it would grow back. And unless you have a daily blow dry, I think that maybe long hair in your forties looks a bit odd. But maybe I'm wrong.

No. I didn't. Just the aveda stuff. Which is really good, I have to say, but its the whole not brushing your hair thing that I struggle with. I feel (and look) dishevelled .

But, have added your recommendation to my list, and will get it and perhaps alternate it with the aveda be curly.

Oh meggle no - I thought after I wrote that, that I didn't mean it across the board, more that, as I get older, and my already frizzy hair start to take on grey wirey look, that long will start to make me (and only me ) like a bag lady.

please don't think that long = bad for anyone over 25

body shop used to make a fab banana conditioner which made curly / frizzy hair very smooth.

nervousal · 08/04/2008 21:24

until about 2 weeks ago I had horrible curly frizzy hair. Only answer - a decent haircut (nothing too drastic- just enough to get rid of dry ends) and some new shampoo and leave in conditioner - can't remember name of it!!! Moisture kick something - hang on I'll google! (I used to go through a bottle of conditioner a week - this stuff is lasting forever and is great!)

I guess I'm lucky - if I mousse it and let it dry naturally I get quite tight curls. If I blow dry it I can get it poker straight. But this shampoo/conditioner is best I've had after years of searching and trying just about everything!

Oh - and the other thing I find helps is using a semi permanent colour- don't know why

moodlumthehoodlum · 08/04/2008 21:38

I had mine done in a slightly dodgy semi permanant (but still here unfortunately) colour at Christmas, and its had the opposite effect. It looked great for a while and now looks in awful condition. I think a cut, and maybe highlights. now I have a job of sorts I can just about afford to have roots done!

but i do like the look of that one you linked to. If only because it comes in a BIG version, and that always looks lovely in the bathroom

I thought the short curly hair on 'how to look good naked' was really nice - makes me think about cutting mine!

I keep thinking about getting it cut and the girls at work say 'nooo its lovely!' Some days it's ok, others it's the pits! It's just past my shouldres, and if it's looking good is shiny spirally curls.

Used wella high hair curl energy mousse today, from salon, and its best if i let it 3/4 dry and then use hair drier to dry it off. Sometimes i use the frizz ease serum - on really wet hair . but most days it looks rough so i twist and put it up! I worry I am too old for longer hair too!

hoxtonchick · 09/04/2008 21:55

the aubrey organics stuff km recommended has arrived, & i used it today. smells delicious & i'm frizz free .

fairylights · 09/04/2008 22:09

wow i am amazed how many other MNers have curly hair! I always feel like i am the only person i know (apart from my sister!) who has curly locks..
am going to try and get some of that boots creme, currently just use frizz ease serum but really i think i look pretty wild most of the time. I think the older i get, the more sleek i want to look..
feel uplifted by the curly haired sisterhood tho
