That fabled spring coat...does it exist?

You know the kind, the one that doesn't let you freeze when it gets a little chilly neither roasts you when it gets warmer. Not a trench/mac (too thin) or anything woollen (too hot).

Is there such a thing or am I asking too much? TIA

Today I am sporting an angle length rain coat with hood.

Which doesn’t fit your brief, but is ideal for the weather.

BetsyBobbin · 23/04/2024 12:04

I wouldn't be averse to a raincoat but I hate hooded coats, sorry

I'm in my Didrikson at the moment, it's bloody freezing!

Bananadramallamas · 23/04/2024 12:33

The ideal spring coat (for me, anyway) is a waterproof, not too heavy or casual, but roomy enough to wear a jumper under if cold. No, I've not found the perfect one either.

CardigansAndCoffee · 23/04/2024 13:06

I've got a beautiful one from Toast years ago that sadly doesn't fit me any more. It's nubbly cotton, off-white, in a sort of tailored almost frock coat shape.

TakeMe2Insanity · 23/04/2024 13:11

For spring I wear raincoats or a leather jacket.

alonglongshot · 23/04/2024 13:13

What you need is a lined trench coat. Not fleece lined, but a decent heavier lining. I have a barbour trench and it's ideal for this weather.

ViscountessMelbourne · 23/04/2024 13:13

This is why I have fifteen coats and jackets but am currently wearing DD's elderly parka.

MajorMischa · 23/04/2024 13:31

Suede/leather?
Wax jacket?

JMAngel1 · 23/04/2024 13:49

Can’t help but is anyone else absolutely fed up in winter coats still!!!

It’s almost May for crying out loud and I’m still in full on thick wool coat, gloves!! and boots.
I have a new gorgeous trench coat that I am dying to wear but I just look at it longingly every morning instead 😂

Looking for something a bit less sporty but thanks

If I'm imagining this right I "think" this is kind of what I'm looking for

Suede/leather?
Wax jacket?

No suede because it's not ideal if you get caught in the rain and wax jackets aren't really my style but thanks

I'll have a look at that but Barbour always bring fox hunting to my mind. The jackets and coats are nice though.

Check out the Coats section on DunnesStores.com.
They deliver to the UK afaik.
They have some lovely coats from Paul Costello and Carolyn Donnelly The Edit. Also their Savida brand often does lovely Spring coats (there's a market for pretty coats in Ireland because of First Communions and Confirmations where the Mums usually dress up )

LoobyDop · 23/04/2024 16:56

I’m currently wearing a varsity jacket most days- felted wool body and slightly padded faux leather sleeves (contrasting, but otherwise it’s plain, not covered in logos and patches and shit). It is absolutely perfect for this time of year- just the right level of warmth. And it’s cut big enough to get a big jumper underneath if needed.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/04/2024 18:22

I activated my trench but it's too cold this week, so I'm back to a leather jacket and a big scarf.

henlake7 · 23/04/2024 19:23

I braved my denim jacket last week....admittedly I was wearing 2 jumpers under it though!

Ilovemyshed · 23/04/2024 19:24

A lightweight puffa

I’m using my Barbour quilted jackets.

Loopylooni · 23/04/2024 20:51

wore my trench last weekend and froze so back to my winter coat this weekend!

BetsyBobbin · 25/04/2024 14:36

From this thread I gathered that I'm searching for the unicorn coat as I've been recommended wax jackets, leather jackets, parkas, denim, etc, etc 😅

I think the lined trench is the closest thing but it's still not what I was looking for as I wanted something maybe a little shorter (but still bum covering).

Back to research

That's beautiful but a tad too long, I was looking for something maybe a little shorter

(It's a beautiful coat tho)
