Light coloured trainers

I’m looking for trainers that suit wide feet in an off-white, cream or white, which I can walk a long way comfortably in and have a reasonable grip on the sole. Not Sketchers.

I am currently wearing Nike Internationalist but the grip is bad in wet weather and they are slightly too narrow, although are comfortable as they are soft, also they seem to have been discontinued.

I am considering Addidas Ozweegos but am not sure if they will look too young for me at 50. I need to avoid Nike Air as that’s what my teenagers wear!

I live in the back of beyond and so I don’t really get to see what other people are wearing but have been in London today and have been looking for inspiration. I think that part of the problem is that I lived in London in my 20s and was very into cool and unusual (and usually expensive) trainers, which I used to receive compliments on - it was kind of my “thing” - but now I am trying to find trainers that aren’t too trendy for and look silly on a 50 year old!

I love my new balance - the most comfortable trainers I've ever owned.

I hate having to take them off now as they support my feet so well..

I love my ozweegos as they are comfy but they are very slippery in wet weather also!

Lightt · 20/04/2024 10:34

Thanks for your responses!

I’ve considered Hokas before but they never seems to have good colours in wide fit. I find the same for Brooks that I use for running, although I currently have a plain black pair.

The New Balance, I’m not sure about, if they are maybe too young for me.

Ozweegos, that’s really useful to know, thanks, and it does put me off them.

I think that I am looking for the middle-aged mum equivalent of what I used to wear “back in the day”, so fashionable but not that is worn by every other person like me, whilst not being too young for me, plus suitable for wider feet and not too slippery when it’s wet. Maybe that just doesn’t exist 😀

I have really wide feet, and have found Puma trainers to be comfortable.

thedendrochronologist · 20/04/2024 11:14

I love my all black ozweegos and am getting the beige ones too.

I'm 44 and don't think they are too young and trendy - they are just nice trainers

I don't find them slippy but maybe look at a trail trainer. I have Nike juniper trail also and they are super- more comfortable than the oz for long walks

Lightt · 20/04/2024 11:47

I have been looking at Pumas but wasn’t sure about the width, so thanks, that’s helpful to know.

I tried on a pair of beige Ozweegos yesterday and really liked them, so I may go for those. I find myself slipping around on wet floors in my Nike Internationalists but I’ve never had great coordination/balance, so it’s maybe just me! The trail ones look good too, I have some Brooks ones but haven’t seen trail shoes in a paler colour before.

I've got the M&S version of the new balance so I wouldn't say too young :-) but maybe bit ubiquitous. Cheap though!

Blingismything · 20/04/2024 12:19

I'd look at Autry and also Hogan.

Blingismything · 20/04/2024 12:20

And Hoff.

Onetiredbeing · 20/04/2024 12:21

On cloud. The waterproof has good grip as well. SO SO comfortable.

You're only 50. They haven't got flashing lights, wheels, or pictures of unicorns on.

Catsinaflat · 20/04/2024 13:07

I have Nike vomero 5s. Exceptionally comfortable and non slippery.

🤣I still haven’t recovered from accidentally buying non-refundable sparkly Nikes.

This is what the sole on the ozweegos look like. The rounded bits are bulbous so very slippery but may be because I first wore them when it rained a lot? Perhaps if they are worn in a bit first they'd be better, not sure.

Iwant2beJessicaFletcher · 19/04/2024 19:23

@Iwant2beJessicaFletcher I want some of these but don't they get really grubby? I live in rainy Manchester so a white leather repels water better and cleans up well. How have you find them lasting? They are lovely in the linen.

eatreadsleeprepeat · 20/04/2024 16:53

I have very wide feet too, and like to be comfortable but also sometimes a bit different. Most comfortable are Gabor, ideally their wider fit, white with zips so you don’t need to do laces every time, most different are several years old, Adidas Stan Smith in a sort of 70’s print. Am about to treat myself to orange suede Gabor trainers.

hettie · 20/04/2024 17:06

So trying to get you back to your London in your 20's vibe I tried on these today.Actualy in a different colour but you asked for white.
They were in an achingly hip London trainer shop (but you can order online). Think the sole looked ok, but importantly I have wide feet and the toe box was good and spacious .... Oh and I'm 50 btw and thought I rocked it 💁
Nike air footscape woven in case you're interested....

My Hoffs are the most comfortable trainers I own, even compared to Sketchers. I like my New Balance but they aren't anywhere near as comfy as the Hoffs.

Lightt · 20/04/2024 20:06

Thanks for all of your suggestions, they’ve given me lots of ideas ahead of going shopping next week!

OP posts:
Lightt · 21/04/2024 12:40

To add that having looked at Hoffs, I really like them and am not sure why I hadn’t considered them before. The only problem is that there’s about six pairs that I want now!

PeonyBlush10 · 21/04/2024 14:06

I like these from Toast - comfortable and go with everything

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/04/2024 14:29

@Lightt I have so many Hoffs on my wish list, really wish they weren't so expensive!

Lightt · 21/04/2024 14:37

@PeonyBlush10 I love the look of those, they’re the nicest looking trainers that I’ve seen, but some of the reviews say that they are quite narrow, which is no good for me. I hate having wide feet!
