Light coloured trainers

I’m looking for trainers that suit wide feet in an off-white, cream or white, which I can walk a long way comfortably in and have a reasonable grip on the sole. Not Sketchers.

I am currently wearing Nike Internationalist but the grip is bad in wet weather and they are slightly too narrow, although are comfortable as they are soft, also they seem to have been discontinued.

I am considering Addidas Ozweegos but am not sure if they will look too young for me at 50. I need to avoid Nike Air as that’s what my teenagers wear!

I live in the back of beyond and so I don’t really get to see what other people are wearing but have been in London today and have been looking for inspiration. I think that part of the problem is that I lived in London in my 20s and was very into cool and unusual (and usually expensive) trainers, which I used to receive compliments on - it was kind of my “thing” - but now I am trying to find trainers that aren’t too trendy for and look silly on a 50 year old!

@EnglishGirlApproximately the Sole Trader outlet store has some good discounts on them, although some of the sizes aren’t available.

@EnglishGirlApproximately how do Hoff size? I was admiring some in a shoe shop this morning and now regret not trying them. I'm not sure I'll find them where I live so will have to order online. I tend to have size 38 for regular shoes, 37 in Birkenstock and 39 in trainers. Thanks

Jumbojem · 21/04/2024 14:47

Can anyone tell me what the sizing is like on the Hoff's? I'm really tempted but between sizes so not sure whether to go up or down.
I have been looking at Hoff's, Gola's and On. Will likely get Hoff or Gola for more casual shoes and On for a summer walking shoe.

@PeonyBlush10 I love the look of those, they’re the nicest looking trainers that I’ve seen, but some of the reviews say that they are quite narrow, which is no good for me. I hate having wide feet!

I don’t have narrow feet and I would say there is a fair bit of give in the fabric.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/04/2024 16:02

I'd say Hoff sizing is slightly generous - I am a standard UK 6 and they fit well.
Thanks for the Sole Trader tip I'll take a look 🙂

Reebock

I'm quite into reebocks at the moment, quite retro looking and brilliant prices on sports direct..
I'm 55 so maybe hopelessly out of touch too..

These are super comfy, and I have quite wide feet.

@Lightt I have so many Hoffs on my wish list, really wish they weren't so expensive!

I love the look of them but when I tried them on they felt horrible. Really inflexible sole and felt very uncomfortable.

Onlyforaday · 23/04/2024 07:13

My Fitflop Rallys are fantastic but nothing trendy about them - just SO comfortable!

burnttoad · 23/04/2024 09:02

Look at trail runners. They grip better

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2024 10:49

@MumboJumbling funny isn't it I find mine really comfortable! I think feet width and how high your arch is etc makes a difference to what suits you.

Lightt · 23/04/2024 11:21

I saw loads of people wearing the 530s in London last week and none in the 327s.

I have these in black and pink and are really comfortable, they also have the extra hole at the top that stops them rubbing

Ive just ordered some Hoffs thanks to this thread. Ive been on the hunt for some comfy trainers. Flat uncushioned soles and middle age arent working for me anymore!

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 23/04/2024 16:07

I have some cool off white Reebok trainers.

sassy82 · 23/04/2024 16:36

I love my Adidas Handball Spezial in aluminium, not as slippy as sambas or cons in wet weather but wouldn't be anti slip.

@hettie do you have a link to Trainer shop you mentioned please?

yetanothernayme · 23/04/2024 18:54

I came on to say New Balance 327s...... love mine! However I've now fallen down a Hoff rabbit hole Grin

hettie · 23/04/2024 22:59

@Asiatoyork they were in Offspring in coal drops yard, kings cross.
They've got a 50% sale on online at the moment

Oh no!

Asiatoyork · 24/04/2024 11:22

@hettie Thanks - I used to shop there when I lived in London. Where I live now doesn’t have as wide a selection :(

purplemini · 30/04/2024 14:19

I have the New Balance 327 which I personally feel quite cool wearing (I'm 54!) but my teenage daughters both wear the 530s. I prefer the 327 as the 530s seem way to much like actual running shoes!
I also love a Superga sneaker but that is probably way into Mum territory. BTW I think Nike Airs have had their day with the teens
