Trainer-esque shoe that is not a trainer?!

Please could anyone recommend a trainer-shape shoe (I’m thinking pumps rather than athletic) that I can wear to work?! Trainers themselves are strictly forbidden (it’s a school, but I’m in the office, not student-facing), but I do not suit ballet pumps or pointy flats at all. I have loafers, which are fine for winter, but as Spring / Summer approaches I’m after something a bit less formal.

I used to have some Kurt Geiger shoes that had a trainer platform, and a fabric upper but they were so uncomfortable 🤦‍♀️

I have some black Adidas Stan Smith's with a white sole that I wear to work, as I cycle to work. Most people WFH most of the time in my company, so going to the office is just to get out of the house mostly, so not quite the traditional workplace where dress code might be more strict.

Fitflop so many styles of shoe!

Not traineresq but I’ve just got some TOMS and they are sooo comfortable

I wore Toms when I worked in a school (not as a teacher). They are very comfortable.

I have a pair of Clark’s Un Rio like the ones above. €70 from their Amazon site. They’re soft leather and cushioned inside and the zip means you’re not adjusting the laces every time.

I’m trusting them to be my only pair for a week’s holiday and if they pass the test I’ll get a summer colour.

I’ve just come back from my week wearing only 1 pair of Clark’s Un Rio shoes from new. I can report that they passed the test, walking around cliffs and muddy paths as well as pavement pounding.
So definitely recommended.

Do Vans still have completely flat insoles with no shaping or arch support at all? That’s how I found them whenever I’ve tried them on.

Yeah they are quite flat although I have orthotic that I put in mine.

Sorry for the link fail. Was meaning to specifically send this from Skechers:

What size are your feet? I find boys school shoes are comfy.

I have some shoes from Office that are a loafer at the front and a slingback at the back. Are you allowed slingbacks?

lapochette · 29/04/2024 09:25

I wear Paul Greens with black trousers both slim leg and wide leg. They are so comfortable and the leather is so soft.

FeetupTvon · 29/04/2024 13:49

Black, leather Converse?

Mary28 · 29/04/2024 15:02

Ecco do a lot of shoes that are half runnerish but are still a shoe. My kid's school do not allow runners but I just get them Eccos, all black shoe-runner type things and nothing has been said so far. They also do a lot of goretex which is great

I have these for my boys in black and for myself in pink:

and the boys version of these for school too:

And I have these:

Women's ECCO® Multi-Vent Leather Gore-Tex Shoe | Black

This multifunctional product combines the Goretex Surround technology with a rugged rubber outsole, for a versatile outdoor product.

I don’t get all the shit on this thread about a dress code for staff who work in a school. You honestly think there should be uniform policy for the children but not for the staff? You don’t think that’s double standards? The obvious example is where they’re saying that students can’t wear trainers but the staff are all wearing them.

mynewusername2023 · 29/04/2024 15:28

Place making so I can go and look at dome of these later. We are smart casual but out and out trainers aren't really the done thing.

Oblomov24 · 29/04/2024 15:30

I'm looking for the same. Ordered these recently : awaiting them.

I work in school and our dress code is smart but it has got more casual. Definitely no denim. I do wear smart trainers but didn’t use to. Head teacher is very old school smart- think stilettos and 10 denier tights! I think you can wear casual clothes smartly and smart clothes scruffily. In school I think it’s about maintaining a standard as the pupils have to .

I really don't see how stiletto heels are appropriate for school. It's a place of learning not a naff 90s nightclub.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 30/04/2024 19:34

Stilettos on varnished wooden floors!

Isthiscorrect · 30/04/2024 20:00

I have a few pairs of Birkenstock trainers not sure hat they are called. White leather, blue suede, tan, pink and green. I have fat feet and Birkenstocks are the only things that support and fit.
