Do these jeans look good ? Are they in style ?

The oversized jacket with the extra long sleeves is very in, (I've even seen one that covered the fingers completely!) as is the Chinese-granny-look patterned one. Irl most people will struggle to look good in them.

I'm short 5' 1" and have several high waisted wide leg trousers but wear them with heeled boots or platform trainers and a fitted top.
I do all my own leg length alterations, so can fit them to the height of specific footwear so they don't puddle on the floor.

The problem is, if you are old you will think that fashions that young women are wearing are horrible and be keen to hang on to what you have been used to ten years previously e/g skinny jeans, fitted blazers etc. That's the way fashion works.

I'm "old" and wouldn't be seen dead in skinny jeans or a fitted blazer!

Garlicked · 16/04/2024 05:33

Same here, @nothingsforgotten - unless I wanted to look like a brace of parsnips attending the yacht club AGM.

hattie43 · 16/04/2024 06:08

They are great but too long

Justleaveitblankthen · 16/04/2024 06:59

Horrible.
When/where are you supposed to wear them without them getting covered in rain and mud?

It's been raining here since Methusela was a lad 🤔

Surely if you’re getting covered in rain or mud then it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing they will all look filthy? I am guessing she wouldn’t wear them where she will get covered in mud. I don’t get covered in mud unless I’m working in the garden

The entire oversized look pretty much requires as skinny a body as possible to look good

Disagree. The joy of oversized, this time around, is that it isn't supposed to make you look slim - just comfortable, flexible and generous. I'm certainly having a good time with it, and I'm twice the size I was when wafting anorexically around in my Karman Ghias in 1972. Even if you're cube-shaped, these clothes can look good on you.

Agree about the camel toe anomaly, though! She's managed to combine saggy with pinched, all in one pair of jeans. Quite an achievement 😏

Edited

I do think they look so much better on the tall and slim model though posted by the op though. On short wider people like me it just accentuates both things.

Moveoverdarlin · 16/04/2024 07:35

I think she looks ridiculous. She’s wearing them because they’re in fashion. They don’t accentuate her figure. They just swamp her.

As soon as she’s taken that shot for Insta, I bet she changes back in to her regular jeans or leggings. It’s been pissing down for the last 8 months so the hem of those jeans will be ruined as soon as you step out the door. Imagine driving in them?

Wow so many nasty, horrible people on here 😂 never seen so much negativity towards a young woman on MN. You should all be ashamed of yourselves

🙄🙄

The pictures aren't of a 'young woman on MN' - they're pictures posted by OP of an influencer she follows asking for opinions on the clothes.

Maybe read the thread more carefully.

This style is everywhere
Same girl in the white
I think I prefer the white
Just wish they were slightly shorter
Love how she's styled them with the blue

But even in the 90s our jeans or combats weren't that long AND billowy at the bottom at the same time. They just look like she's got the wrong size on ConfusedGrin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/04/2024 08:19

I do like the colours she's wearing though

... or old enough to have rocked the 90s look in the 90s Grin

Anoisagusaris · 16/04/2024 08:23

I’ve said I don’t like those jeans. That doesn’t mean I don’t like any wide legged jeans. I love them! I still have a pair of the most gorgeous Miss Sixty soft denim wide legged jeans from the late 90s that I will never fit into but can’t part with them.

She's an influencer

Puts herself and her fashion choices out there for likes and ££.

For every post here saying "No. doesn't look good " there is another poster enjoying the look. That's what happens when your an influencer.

I'm sure if these posts really were nasty (which they aren't, slightly dramatic word) she could choose another vocation proper job.

I hate the look but I'm sure she's lovely. And I do like her colours, very fresh and spring like.

BobnLen · 16/04/2024 08:27

They look ridiculous, didn't Victoria Beckham used to wear trousers too long like that but she isn't going to be walking the local high street. I'm 5'10 and bought some jeans from Next that are long like that, I thought they would be ok at my height and not too long, they were ridiculously long, they went back.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/04/2024 08:27

And yes, if she's wearing those jeans this week in the uk poor girl is going to have a mountain of blimmin laundry Grin

Ok so this is Style And Beauty..

People post outfits, trainers, eyebrows, make up, bags etc etc.

Then they ask for opinions..

If we can't give those opinions without being accused of being incels, there's little point to S&B.

What happened to the world where people have become so terrified of opinion?
What next? Someone gonna label me a far right bigot for thinking there's nothing wrong with wearing leggings, long t-shirt and denim jacket... 🤪

Those fashion choices of yours are probably literally murdering someone somewhere, you do realise?!!! Grin

Ahhh I have several pairs of Miss 60 that I never fitted into! Should put them on Vinted but I have many happy memories of desperately trying to get into them for a night out then choosing something to else.

You haven't been here very long or are easily offended. The negative comments are to the clothes and not to the person wearing them. You are aware you can have a difference of opinion, right?

Agree with Garlicked. The whole point of oversized, particularly dresses, is the item of clothing itself - its structure, pattern, fabric, how it moves when worn.

Also agree re the unfortunate camel toe effect.

bridgeobertroubledwater · 16/04/2024 09:24

You know I'm nearly 40 now and I do like to keep up with current trends but not at the expense of looking and feeling ridiculous
I hate that someone determines what's "in fashion " and all the sheep follow (sometimes I'm guilty )
I love skinny jeans because they suit my figure
If I try these jeans and they look nice and I feel good I will wear them
If I try them on and hate them I'm gonna wear my skinny jeans because I like them
I hate the culture that if something is out of fashion (who actually has the power to decide this anyway ) then we must burn them
Ridiculous

EmilyTjP · 16/04/2024 09:50

I don’t like these jeans but sadly these are the fashion now. As are the sandals. This thread definitely highlights the age difference on S & B.

Exactly 😆if you wore skinny jeans and fitted blazers as an adult you're old enough to remember 90s wide legs, do the youngsters not know this...
