The problem is, if you are old you will think that fashions that young women are wearing are horrible and be keen to hang on to what you have been used to ten years previously e/g skinny jeans, fitted blazers etc. That's the way fashion works.

I think this is very ageist. I can admire clothes on somebody else and think they are very lovely (or ridiculous) but have no desire to wear them myself. I can coax my DDs into being more adventurous with their choices, suggest fun combinations for things they already have in their wardrobe. They are often surprised by how things may work together. For me, I like a more classic, pared down timeless style and I buy very little. Skinny jeans work for me, so do cigarette style. I avoided the trend for anything with manufactured holes or fraying like the plague, now those are disappearing. I have great legs, they are easily my best asset, skinnies look awesome on me!!! And on my teenagers! DD1 has a pair of jeans like those in the photos above but properly sized for her body shape and leg length, she'll wear them until they fall apart and then move to the next big thing, if she likes it! Fashion trends come and go, style is timeless.

The (white) trousers in your post at 17.20 are fecking hideous too! Why are they stupidly long? You couldn't bloody walk in them. Confused What are these 'fashion designers' thinking of - coming up with such ugly, hideous, STUPID 'styles' of clothing? Or are they permanently pissed? I can't believe anyone in real life would wear these!

This fashion probably came from Victoria Beckham, she is always wearing extremely long and wide trousers that look daft. But then she no doubt has someone to drive her round constantly.

These people who wear trousers that drape on the floor, don’t they care that after a couple of wears the hems will be falling apart from rubbing on the ground? Best case scenario is that they’ll be filthy.

Can you imagine shuffling your way into a public restroom with these dragging the floor?😱

Not true in my case.

There's a young woman that runs a coffee shop nearby and she often wears jeans like the pair in picture #1. She is nearly 6ft tall with a model's long lean figure. She pairs them with a tight fitting cropped cami that shows a wide expanse of flat, toned tummy. She looks amazing!

So it's not that I think that the fashion that young women are wearing is horrible, I'm just being honest that few can pull off this look.

But honestly when I was young I wore some outrageous things and I'm pretty sure they weren't all flattering even if they were in style at the time😂

On the contrary I think maturity can bring a better understanding of shape etc on the body, and what we see here is a 'trend' which is unflattering and ridiculously impractical too.

xyz111 · 15/04/2024 20:21

I'm not a fan. Think you need to be about 5ft 8 and a size 10.
I've just purchased some mom style jeans. Have always worn skinny, but I really liked these!!

SheerLucks · 15/04/2024 20:23

Gosh these are not flattering at all.

I'm amazed she's an influencer!

mdinbc · 15/04/2024 22:11

The original post had jeans too long, jacket too big. And the blazer being double breasted doesn't do anything for her.

Go for wider leg jean, (I'm an oldie at 62, and yet manage to keep up with trends!), but hem them to the right length, and wear with a slim cut top and shorter jacket.

Wow so many nasty, horrible people on here 😂 never seen so much negativity towards a young woman on MN. You should all be ashamed of yourselves

Is this supposed to be emulating the seventies style of massive flares with enormous platforms.
She's definitely not rocking it.

I think the negativity is towards a dire pair of jeans.

They'll look even worse if worn in real life and they get at all mucky.

Mangoandbroccoli · 15/04/2024 23:05

Following trends like this is very 'emperor's new clothes' - people blindly wearing whatever has been deemed 'trendy' and 'in' by the fashion powers that be, rather than dressing for what suits them. Not that the latter is the be all and end all - I think wearing what makes you FEEL great is the most important thing. It does make me chuckle, though, that some people wouldn't be caught dead in something one year, until they're told it's fashionable the next...

TuesdayWhistler · 15/04/2024 23:13

Ok so this is Style And Beauty..

People post outfits, trainers, eyebrows, make up, bags etc etc.

Then they ask for opinions..

If we can't give those opinions without being accused of being incels, there's little point to S&B.

What happened to the world where people have become so terrified of opinion?
What next? Someone gonna label me a far right bigot for thinking there's nothing wrong with wearing leggings, long t-shirt and denim jacket... 🤪

Growlybear83 · 15/04/2024 23:25

The length looks ridiculous. Surely whoever the wearer is could manage to take them up?

voilefloat · 15/04/2024 23:47

No they don't look good or flattering as they're too long. They don't look very practical and will soon be frayed and dirty on the hem.

A shorter length with different accessories, and shoes, and they might look fine.

Saintmariesleuth · 16/04/2024 00:04

The jeans in pics 1 & 2 are far too long for the wearers - the look is swamped rather than baggy. I also think the jeans are generally ill fitting.

I think you're best off going out and trying on a mixture of styles and lengths of jeans OP and see what suits you. There are different kinds of baggy and loose fit jeans in fashion right now, you just need to figure out what flatters you

MissSookieStackhouse · 16/04/2024 00:20

These so called influencers make me laugh with some of the fugly stuff they post. Do they not have a mirror, or do they genuinely think they look good in the these outfits?

Garlicked · 16/04/2024 02:40

@therestisstillunwriten, imo this is the better way to do that look. Just seen it on another thread. You didn't mention budget, but they offer the jeans in shorter length. Mint Velvet: https://mintvelvet.com/products/blue-print-quilted-jacket

Do these jeans look good ? Are they in style ?
EconomyClassRockstar · 16/04/2024 02:46

Honestly, I think they look pretty awful on anyone who isn't over 5'8, skinny and long legged. How is it even possible to have camel toe in baggy jeans?! The entire oversized look pretty much requires as skinny a body as possible to look good, just as it did in the 90s when all us old timers wore it that time round.

IndecentPropolis · 16/04/2024 02:54

They look fucking awful. Obviously.

petermaddog · 16/04/2024 02:59

shoe suck pant might be better with boots

Garlicked · 16/04/2024 03:28

Disagree. The joy of oversized, this time around, is that it isn't supposed to make you look slim - just comfortable, flexible and generous. I'm certainly having a good time with it, and I'm twice the size I was when wafting anorexically around in my Karman Ghias in 1972. Even if you're cube-shaped, these clothes can look good on you.

https://www.riverisland.com/p/plus-pink-quilted-floral-jacket-904806

Agree about the camel toe anomaly, though! She's managed to combine saggy with pinched, all in one pair of jeans. Quite an achievement 😏

Alarmingghhh · 16/04/2024 03:51

I feel like they keep trying to find new ways to make jeans feel "on trend" by dicking around with new must have cuts every 6 months when the reality is the most flattering fits have already trended and have been out there for years: straight leg, bootcut, flare and skinny.

What's this new iteration here, swamp daddy? It looks try hard and weird

Hols24 · 16/04/2024 03:53

I actually really like the current fashion for wide legged jeans, I just don't think that particular pair fit her. I suspect she took a few photos and then returned them!
