Where are you shopping and what are you shopping for / planning to wear in spring/summer? Just looking for inspiration Smile.

I am a size 18 on top, size 20/22 on the bottom. I love the S&B page but a lot of the MN favourite shops or beautiful things being suggested only go up to a 16 (Klements) or 18 (Sezane, Toast, Hush).

I have just ordered a Trench coat from River Island Plus, and a new backpack and some sunglasses in the Asos sale.

Will link the Trench coat below:

I live in dresses from Yours. Comfy, cool, plenty of different styles to suit your shape.

Whataweirdsituation · 08/04/2024 14:56

Also bumping because I would love to see the comments!

I'm annoyed because the only nice bits I've seen so far this year are Shein and Cider, and ethically I don't want to pull the trigger. I wish I could fit in Sezane!

StevieNicksWannabe · 08/04/2024 14:59

I'm 37 and like you an 18 on top 20/22 on bottom.
Tu at Sainsburys does nice clothes in a wide range of sizes. I particularly like their dresses and sweaters.
Asos Curve range has the odd winning piece for a night out.
Roman Originals is good for a formal outfit.
M&S for jeans.

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 15:03

Same here @Whataweirdsituation! I don't want to buy from Shein or Cider etc.

But also don't want to get everything at M&S or Seasalt!

I guess there's Next and Phase Eight etc. Mango too (I always look there and don't find anything though).

It doesn't help that I have to order online most of the time as they rarely have my size in stock in stores

Thanks @StevieNicksWannabe and @BusyCM! I really like Sainsburys clothes actually. I have some jeans and jumpers from there. M&S jeans too.

Aligne do some lovely casual dresses that go up to size 20/22.

I have the sleeveless halter Gabi and it looks great.

Their sizes can sell out quite quickly but they usually make more stock so worth keeping an eye on them. They also have quite a good sales page.

I'm similar size to you. I get a lot of dresses from hell bunny and in the style!

R41nb0wR0se · 08/04/2024 15:30

Dresses - Lady V or Topsy Curvy. Carolina dress room for a more alt vibe. All of these go to a least size 30 in at least some lines.
Basics (e.g. black trousers, jeans etc) usually ASOS or Yours.

VincentVanGoth · 08/04/2024 15:31

Joanie clothing or popsy for dresses. H&M for basics.
I loved the plisse trouser trend last year, hope there’s similar in the shops this summer too.

TimesChangeAgain · 08/04/2024 15:32

I discovered Taking Shape last year, it’s an Aussie brand. Seems to always be a 20-40% coupon available, don’t pay full price! Bought some nice smart-casual work dresses from there. Size down twice!

I like Next for tops and jeans. Bought some fat face jeans recently, so think I may try some other bits from there.

Yours clothes almost always look awful on me. I’m obviously shaped differently to their patterns!

Re buying online, my top tip is using PayPal’s “buy in three” - it spreads the payment over three months, so I’ll order a big haul, and have returned most of it before the second payment is due so don’t have to pay and then wait for refund. There’s no credit application.

softslicedwhite · 08/04/2024 15:35

I've become very loyal to several brands: Lucy and Yak (not v popular on MN I know), Snag (ditto), Gudrun Sjödén (fantastic, ethically made stretchy trousers and culottes) and I supplement with bits I see as I go around Sainsbury's or ASDA. My budget every year for clothes is around £500 and I get some really decent staples out of that money that wash and wash).

softslicedwhite · 08/04/2024 15:37

Pressed post too soon. H&M v variable in terms of what I find desirable, but I do get the odd t-shirt or sweatshirt from there.

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 16:38

Thank you for all of these!

@softslicedwhite I love Lucy and Yak and Snag too. I realise I have lost mumsnet points for this. I do go for plain colours though - not the bright prints.

@HundredMilesAnHour I love those! Thank you.

A lot of other suggestions I hadn't heard or or looked at too

I've found a few nice tops in Oliver Bonas. And a fab jumper dress.

Monsoon can be good sometimes.

delilabell · 08/04/2024 17:02

Following this with interest! I'm a size 22. I buy from shein, vinted, newlook, next and asda for my things. I love wearing dresses in the summer, dresses with tights in winter but feel a bit lost for what to wear in spring!

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 17:20

I do love dresses, but I find the weather too cold most of the time! Even with wool tights I'm chilly in a dress unless it's really hot.

Lately, I've been wearing jeans or trousers and jumpers mostly, but would love to find a nice blazer to smarten it up a bit. I saw someone with an unsteuctured (but not oversized), ruched sleeve blazer the other day and want to try on similar 🤔

Joining in, 20-22 here. Bought this on xl yesterday from H&M for upcoming holiday to Turkey - the neckline & sleeves are wrong for me, as is the colour & design but I like it!

Also like Sainsbury's & also trying to avoid SHEIN even though there's a fab dress on there. It's difficult to find things that fit, are the right colour & style & that I like!

I had my colours & style done years ago with house of colour & tend to stick to those things as I can feel they suit me better. I don't buy a lot of new things but love it when I find something good. I generally check eBay & Vinted now instead of real shops.

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 17:43

I really like that @buckeejit. Perfect for a sunny holiday!

I should really look on Vinted more. I've found some lovely things on there and it does work out a lot cheaper.

Thank you! Since they withdrew their Big Is Beautiful range some years back I'd not looked at H&M for basics. It is very useful to know.

Another hack that I've finally worked out, as a larger lady. Moisture wicking pants! Because we do get sweatier down there and it bothered me so much. I tried some Modibodi moisture wicking briefs and immediately ordered nine more pairs. Life changed!
