Please help me wear lipstick!

I would love to wear lipstick but have never found any that stays on. I've tried stain, liquid, colour with gloss on top, traditional lipstick, long lasting, I've blotted and reapplied over, all sorts of things.

It just comes off. I don't know if that's something about me, how I put it on or the lipstick. I always end up with lipstick around the outer part of my lips but none on the inner part.

Can anyone recommend any lipstick that will stay? Or tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you

Maybelline 'super stay matte ink', I think it's called. It doesn't even come off on the glass when you're having a drink.

UpsideLeft · 02/04/2024 22:24

You just need to keep reapplying it after eating and drinking like everyone else

Tiredtoddlermama · 02/04/2024 22:41

Another vote for Maybelline superstay matte ink. I like Poet (nude shade on me) I wore a few of the brighter shades in summer.

learieonthewildmoor · 03/04/2024 06:12

I’m like you, lipstick doesn’t last on me. Soft moisturising ones are gone in an hour, but the long lasting /transfer proof ones are too dry and uncomfortable to wear.
Nars make a long lasting pencil - high intensity lip pencil and an airy matte lipstick with the same shades in both. I get good results from putting on the pencil and then the air matte. Creamy mattes work, too.
also lip stain with tinted lip balm on top.
Won’t last through eating, but will survive drinking and will last 3 or 4 hours.

Long since given up but I have a Burts Bees tinted lip balm on me at all times instead.

To be fair I have some Dior lip stains as well that I wear under the balm sometimes and they're not bad.

Brilliant, thank you, I have a few things to try then! As someone else said, moisture ones disappear and the long lasting dry my lips out. I'll be doing some shopping later thank you for the suggestions Grin

Not sure if this helps but I use a moisturising balm before applying lipstick and also lip pencil to help stick too.

LightSpeeds · 03/04/2024 09:07

I've used this before and it's quite good (despite the sting).

Unfortunately, after using it a few times I got an allergic reaction and my lips swelled up 🙁

OmniPresents · 03/04/2024 09:34

Just looking at the maybelline recommended on here - is it best to get the liquid or the crayon?

PinkPondQueen · 03/04/2024 09:47

Max Factor Lipfinity, been buying it for years and it literally does not budge. The only annoying thing is the separate moisturising top coat which comes with it doesn't last anywhere near as long as the lipstick itself so need to keep buying that separately!

Thekormachameleon · 03/04/2024 09:50

Use a matching lip pencil and fill your entire lip in with it then a layer of lipstick, blot with tissue then a second layer of lipstick
Apply lip balm to keep lips from drying out

SleepingisanArt · 03/04/2024 10:09

My lips were described by a makeup professional as 'teflon'! The only colour which stays on my lips is Dior Addict Lip Tatoo. It's supposed to stay put for up to 12 hours and I've managed 5.5 before needing to re-apply - it doesn't come off onto glasses and is nicely moisturising. It isn't cheap! But for me it is the only thing which works and for the few occasions when I wear lip colour it looks and feels fabulous so for me it's worth it.

ABirdsEyeView · 03/04/2024 12:16

I use a tiny bit of concealer on my lips before applying lipstick to help it stick. Lip pencil is good.

AngryLikeHades · 03/04/2024 12:38

Do you prime your lips beforehand? I prime them 3 times: one with makeup primer (Smashbox) and once after that with concealer and then with lip liner crayon.
I blot twice.
I understand your anger though, because despite this, my lipstick is wayward. It would be worse if I didn't do these things.

Estée Lauder 💯 per cent and Mac pay more but it’s worth it love my lips don’t answer the phone without it🤣🤣

Bearpawk · 03/04/2024 12:43

You will have to re apply it.
I use rare beauty tinted lip oil. The pigment lasts all day but I do top it up when I nip to the loo of after eating to keep it looking great.

MaMisled · 03/04/2024 12:52

I've always used a lip liner as a lipstick. It's sometimes still there in the morning after a night of drinking, eating and smoking!

WinkyTinky · 03/04/2024 12:54

I only ever use a lip liner pencil. As suggested above, a bit of concealer first around the edge of your lips and then the liner. Still, it only stays on for a few hours then I have to reapply, but I assumed everyone did this anyway 😅

Tiredtoddlermama · 03/04/2024 13:04

I also use a rimmel transparent liner before applying- around the outside of my lips rather than lining the lips as you would a coloured lip liner.

I used the superstay that looks like a lipgloss for the pp above because there's a few shades that actually look nice on me (never happens!) and use all the time. Might try the crayon though!

UpsideLeft · 03/04/2024 13:51

I use the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks and they do stay on longer and don't dry my lips out like others

Also the Kylie lip kits (lipstick and matching liner) do stay on for a long time and come in lovely shades hence them becoming a roaring success when released.

I ordered them from the US years ago when they first came out for DD and bought a couple for myself. You can buy them in Boots now.

I always apply Vaseline or any lip balm whilst I'm applying the rest of my make up and leave my lipstick till just before i go out. I wipe the balm off with tissue first

Comefromaway · 03/04/2024 13:52

The Maybelline superstay one is indestructable. Everything else you need to keep re-applying.

UpsideLeft · 03/04/2024 13:54

I do have Mac and Nars lipsticks but not entirely sure how long they last

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/04/2024 13:58

I feel your pain, OP. Max Factor Lipfinity and the Maybelline Superstay both shrivel my lips up, and go all dry and flaky. I'd rather have no colour on my lips than that!
