Plain everyday cardigans.

In a variety of colours but plain. Like the equivalent of a comfy pair of jeans, a cardigan you can wear with anything purely as a warm item, not ‘pretty’ or ‘fashionable’.

Preferably under £20.

Or, any specific shops to keep an eye out for cardigans later in the year?

OP posts:

If you don't mind second hand I buy lovely wollen cardigans from eBay. Great quality and you can select by colour.

SurpriseSparDay · 30/03/2024 09:53

Preferably under £20.

Oh, so you mean pre-owned?

Look for knitwear from Community Clothing - mostly unisex, exemplary ethics.

This might be the snobbiest snarkiest reply I've seen on here...

Primark, or the supermarkets, Next possibly but I've not found any in there recently. New Look and Marks and Spencers are other good places to look. I got a black one from Primark recently.

Fat Face is also good but they're a bit more expensive.

I live in cardigans in the summer, so easy to chuck on with jeans or shorts. Nothing fancy just waist length cardigans.

SurpriseSparDay · 30/03/2024 10:09

Where are you buying brand new not pre-owned woollen cardigans from, for less than £20, @ButtonHouse?

I’m assuming the OP meant wool as she specified wanting something warm? Might be possible to get a cotton cardigan for that price.

But obviously she’ll get far better quality for her money if she buys pre-owned.

Deargodletitgo · 30/03/2024 10:17

The Primark ones are a generally good buy, more cotton or wool than feeling polyester. I do wear pre loved though as well, so I'd recommend a tour of some charity shops too, just bought a gorgeous v neck camel wool jumper brand new for £4

My gosh.. why are some people so snobby and pedantic.( OP didn't mention pure cashmere or wool)
I love a good Cardigan/ shrug.. long and short.
I buy at..

That's a nice style. It's 82% viscose.

I like viscose but it's not a material for warmth. That's a cardigan to put over a short sleeved dress if the day is cooler.

goingdownfighting · 30/03/2024 10:35

Primark!

hlc123 · 30/03/2024 10:44

I love my Matalan cardigans

NC03 · 30/03/2024 10:46

This is one of the ones I wear most but it's £25

AIstolemylunch · 30/03/2024 10:46

Uniqlo definitely and won't be much more than £20.

Exactly, if they're asking for cardigans under £20 in a variety of colours it's obvious she didn't mean wool or cashmere.

This one's really nice, I've got it in white and wear it almost daily. Thinking of getting the blue and beige. Perfect for this time of year.

Mercurial123 · 30/03/2024 12:08

What's wrong with pre-owned or new and unworn from EBay, Vinted etc? That would be my choice.

Cuppachuchu · 30/03/2024 12:13

I have the M&S one in a few colours, good for layering and not too long or warm. £19.50.

Darklane · 30/03/2024 12:27

Agree, the M&S ones are good, lots of colours.

Daisiesanddaffodils24 · 30/03/2024 12:31

Dunnes?

Currently wearing a lovely minky brown v necked cardie from Primark (def under £20 and so warm!).
Ive also bought a couple of thinner cardies for when the weather warms up from their sale for only £4.

TBH if you dont mind trawling through the online sales you can usually find plenty of bargains these days. I mainly stick to places like ASOS or Boohoo coz they tend to have crazy reductions.

I have this one in black. It’s a very nice fit, it’s quite structured like a jacket almost. It’s a very open stitch and therefore pretty delicate, a couple on the shop floor had pulls in the .

BreatheAndFocus · 30/03/2024 13:59

I got two great cardigans from Tu (via Argos). They were £14 each and lovely colours. I also got two more from Bon Marche. I was worried because I’ve never bought anything from there and don’t really like their clothes, but the cardigans were fantastic! Beautiful colours, lovely quality and wash well. If I remember correctly, they were £12 each. They look like they cost a lot more.

suburburban · 30/03/2024 14:09

John Lewis are good

I'm not overly keen on those short cardis at the moment
