Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

Nice piece about QEII's best tiaras. I do think the Brazilian Aquamarine one is absolutely HIDEOUS, though. And not that keen on the Burmese Ruby, either.

Edited

Totally agree about those two tiaras - really ugly.

Cams in the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara.

The aquamarines would work well as a mahoosive, fuck-off necklace, IMO. They just make me think of tv screens in the tiara.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/04/2024 22:28

(But I agree, it's really, really ugly).

Also, nice Times article here about the relationship between the King and the PoW: https://archive.ph/q4BDr

Some recent Max outfits that we may have missed, courtesy of RFP. The red and chartreuse are very her but the blue suit is a bit more understated and I think that particular blue is nice on her. Great earrings too.

I’d love to see her shoe wardrobe - she must have those Gianvito Rossi 105s in every colour! I wonder if they’re secretly super comfortable or something as they’re a favourite with several royal women.

And Mathilde demonstrating the benefits of sprinkling fertiliser on your dress the night before! I like her shoes though.

I like Mathilde’s floral sheath dress there! It’s a great shoe on her, and she looks great in the vibrant colours.

I really liked Sophie's dress from the other day. She also wore some lovely earrings with it.

And talking of pink dresses I like this one on Leti from last week too. Its maybe a bit pale for her colourings, but I like the style.

I also like the pattern and colour of Sophie's dress here, but the woman needs a better bra, and I think the neckline is a bit funny, it needs V nexk or boat neck or something

And final post, I've ranted about Victoria and her block colour suits before, I hate them. But she's moved it up a notch with black trousers and a cerise pink jacket. I know its probably easier to have a 'uniform' and suits maybe feel business like, but I can't get on board with her choices at all. Sorry Victoria (I'm sure she doesn't care about my thoughts!)

The white suit isn’t bad, not keen on the others though.

Sophie does need a bra intervention - we’ve said before that a few royal women would benefit from that!

Maireas · 26/04/2024 17:07

I like Mathilde's dress, it's the nicest I've seen in a while. Max looks great in the bright block colours and I love the chartreuse.
CPV does love the trouser suits, they are a bit hit and miss with the colour and cut, but I like the white one.

Queen Mary loved a torque! She's like a ship in full sail, very grand and very rigged! Plenty of Granny's chips.
QEQM's wedding dress was very much of it's time, wasn't it?. The fabric sounds gorgeous. I'm intrigued by her decision not to wear a tiara as she was gifted one before her wedding - I think the Cartier Halo or the Lotus Blossom?.

I agree re Elizabeth the QM's eyebrows- very modern.

Heresy I know on here but I always thought she was a bit plain and dumpy to have bagged herself a royal prince because no doubt in high society circles at the time there were many a beautiful girl (or their aspiring mamas and papas ) setting their cap at the Royal princes.
Mind you Wallis Simpson was no oil painting either.

Maireas · 26/04/2024 17:31

Poor Bertie had a lot of problems, so I think was definitely lacking in confidence with women. I think he was looking for a steady type like Elizabeth.
As for Wallis? Rumours abound. However, David did give her a bracelet engraved with the phrase "hold tight" 🎆

OP posts:
KillingMeDeftIy · 26/04/2024 17:43

Wallis was no beauty but she did have style and always looked very chic. The QM not so much but apparently she was much sought after by eligible bachelors so I suspect she had a lot of charm. There was even a rumour that she originally was after David but wasn’t really his type as he preferred svelte and boyish-looking women.

Maireas · 26/04/2024 17:50

Elizabeth did seem to have a lot of suitors, I agree that she must have been quite charming and vivacious.
Wallis was definitely a socialite and very chic. She was a very good society hostess.

Oh is Queen Mary wearing a torque in the photo? I was wondering what it was!

I still can’t believe that in that photo she’s only a few years older than Max/Leti/Mary etc are now. And younger than Sophie! Different times…

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 26/04/2024 18:18

Very different times.

I read somewhere that Queen Mary was planning to marry off her daughter Princess Mary to a German Prince until WW1 started, then decided it wasn't really the correct thing to do.
