Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

Lovely picture of MM and Haakon (freed for the occasion 😉!)
That red is beautiful.

Never let it be said that I came between a crown Prince and his duty 😂

MM's red dress is stunning. I would love to have an opportunity to wear something like that. I'd like Amalia's ruby tiara from the state banquet the other night to go with it please.

I genuinely have a moment of terror every so often that someone will end up claiming one of my jewellery items and @Maireas will make a mistake and not realise it's already spoken for, or she might think 'oh, so-and-so hasn't been here for years so maybe her items should go back into the open vault'... I think I must have at least 5 different names on the Spreadsheet of Splendour, some of which I probably don't even remember!

But I try to remain sanguine about the possibility. After all, jewels are made to be worn...

I'm here for the bold talk - love a bit of bad behaviour!😂😂
I wonder which big event will pop up some lovely fashion next? Trooping of the Colour? Really hope our Kate will be well enough to attend.

MrsLeonFarrell · 21/04/2024 13:42

They are Trooping to Irish Guards' colours this year. I expect Catherine will be there if she possibly can.

I hope she doesn't because of the media scrutiny.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 21/04/2024 14:02

I hope Kate stays away. Imagine the scrutiny. Plus, she’ll presumably be only partway through her chemo by June.

gingercat02 · 21/04/2024 14:07

I don't expect to see Kate for much of this year.

I have no idea how long chemo lasts. I thought if she just had to sit in a carriage it's a way to be present without too much scrutiny but it is a long morning.

Maireas · 21/04/2024 15:29

My sister had chemo last Sept - Nov, lost her hair and eyebrows and was very immuno compromised. She's a lot better now but very tired and self conscious with the hair growth. Can you imagine what it's like for someone like Kate? As pp have said, all that scrutiny.

You can get some very realistic wigs. Take it from someone who fooled a group of student Drs.

My friend has had a wig made. It’s incredibly realistic and looks just like her real hair. But she’s very self-conscious about her eyelashes and eyebrows.

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/04/2024 19:36

Having had chemo, the most common cycle I know of is 6 sessions, each 3 weeks apart. My experience was pretty standard, I think - dreadful first week, better second, third more or less OK, then off we go again.

I know not everyone responds the same but yes, I was very tired and weak most of the time. My hair started coming out pretty soon after the second session so my lovely SIL clippered me. And I was always very conscious that every 3 weeks, I was consenting to having a couple of litres of ACTUAL POISON pumped round my body.

So I very much hope that Kate will take all the time she needs until she feels OK about being seen in public. I do think that William is slightly taking the piss, though - other dads have to work under similar circumstances.

The Queen's gallery has a "Royal Portraits" exhibition on this summer, which could be interesting.
