Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

No, that suit is not good, I don't like the colour and the baggy trousers.

Meghan’s at the polo https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13302947/meghan-markle-prince-harry-polo-match-miami-duke-nacho-figueras.html

when I first saw the thumbnail I was excited but it’s another dress where I like the idea of it but the execution is off. The fit isn’t right and the fabric isn’t great either, it seems to be both too stiff and see through. I think the waist is sitting too high and generally the proportions are off.

Meghan Markle wows in white as she and Prince Harry attend polo match

The Duchess of Sussex , 42, embraced the sun in an elegant white dress, which featured a pleated skirt design, halterneck top, and a cut-out at the waist, completing her look with towering nude heels.

I wouldn't wear heels like that to a Polo match 😂

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/04/2024 07:26

Oh dear, I think that outfit is a good example of Meghan liking something but not considering whether it suits her body shape or the occasion. It doesn't even look comfortable, which is always my reason for choosing something that may not be the most flattering shape on me.

Maireas · 13/04/2024 07:35

I quite like the dress, it has an origami quality. It's quite simple, but different. Meghan likes the halter neck.
I agree with you about the shoes, though - those are impressive heels!

I think this is a lovely look on Meghan - she’s made a success of a dress that looks poorly cut. If you look at the picture on the designer’s website the necktie is huge and the cut-out at the waist is making the skirt fabric pouch. It looks so much better on Meghan. I don’t like the central box-pleat (makes it look like culottes) but otherwise I think she looks very elegant.

I think she looks good and a halter neck suits her. It’s a bit reminiscent of her evening wedding dress. I don’t think it looks hugely different on Meghan to how it does on the model on the website.

Maireas · 13/04/2024 08:01

it looks similar to her evening wedding dress
Yes, it does. That was just stunning.

I’m not a fan of the dress. It huge around the neck and with all the ribbons and bow at the back it looks like it’s in danger of strangling her. I also prefer it with the original smaller cut out. It looks like the fit has been compromised by making the cut out bigger, much baggier and less flattering (although she does seem to favour the baggy/oversized silhouette so I’m guessing that was done on purpose). The skirt of the dress is lovely though, but very see through. I would have wore a slip underneath it to protect my modesty, unless she was deliberately trying to have her own Diana moment.

smilesy · 13/04/2024 08:43

I really don’t like clothes with random
cut out bits, or over embellishments in the form of giant bows. Seems too try hard to me. Too much going on

LadyEloise1 · 13/04/2024 08:46

I think Meghan looks great.
She is showing a lot more midriff than the model in the original dress does.
Oh my word those shoes are high. Ouch !

Eaumyword · 13/04/2024 09:34

Quite glamorous and I like the halterneck style.

gingercat02 · 13/04/2024 09:49

I like the dress, way better than on the model, but the skirt doesn't hang well.
Heels at polo are quite usual. Polo is well posh, especially at the clubs where Harry will play.

I like her in the specs, but I am not keen on those wide legged trousers.
I like the skirt of the woman next to her.

EvenStillIWantTo · 13/04/2024 15:03

Mary looks so much more modern than a lot of the coat dress type things that the British RF seem to have deemed appropriate. I do think their style has yet to evolve from the reign of the Queen.

Maireas · 13/04/2024 15:07

I haven't seen a coat dress for a while - correct me if I'm wrong, and Kate and Sophie have been wearing trouser suits and more modern looks.
It's fine to wear a sweater and trousers, I just don't like the wide legged design, particularly in a heavy fabric, personally.

OP posts:
EvenStillIWantTo · 13/04/2024 15:18

Well that's true, maybe the evolution has begun!

I think Mary’s looking a bit “wintry” given that it’s now the middle of April

If I was an Australian in Denmark, I suspect I would keep my woolies on all year round.

Am not sure that's a like for like comparison. Mary seems to be doing an indoor meeting with a few charity or similar people. For these types of meetings Kate or Sophie who are most similar in age would wear a business suit or skirt and blouse or dress.

Kate and Sophie get the coat dresses out for the big occasions such as Trooping the Colour, the Garter ceremonies and Commonweatlth services or weddings, christenings and funerals. Mary wears very formal clothes to these types of events too - check out what she wore to Charles' coronation, Fred's proclamation and her first event as Queen which was to the Danish Parliament.

Choux · 13/04/2024 16:02

Here's Mary at those events.

Well yes that would be understandable (I don’t know what the temperature is in Denmark atm, though), but perhaps a lighter colour would look more springlike? Her outfit just looks a bit “heavy” iyswim

Choux · 13/04/2024 16:12

Kate's been wearing polo necks for years.
