Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

I know you all love a royal wedding.
Teresa, granddaughter of Princess Teresa of Bourbon Two Scillies, married the mayor of Madrid.
Guests included Juan Carlos and Princesses Cristina, in brown, and Elena of Spain, in the navy print, but not Felipe and Leti.

Mary's suit is exquisitely cut. She looks good

Maireas · 09/04/2024 20:23

Ooh, a Two Sicillies wedding! She looks lovely, the dress is quite a slim fit, but the veil is gorgeous. I'm not sure about Cristina's brown outfit, but I'm not a fan of that colour. Elena looks like her Mum, doesn't she?

A better look at the train.
And a better pic of Princess Elena’s daughter Victoria in the brown dress, along with the bride’s grandmother Princess Teresa in blue, Cristina De Borbon Dos Sicilias in fuchsia pink, and the Duchess of Huescar in bright green.

That pink dress is an absolute mess!

Maireas · 09/04/2024 22:39

The bow is a bit out of proportion, isn't it? The green dress is strange - what's that circular thing on it? I don't know who she is, but she's very elegant and could carry off something else. It's just a bit of an odd look.

Mary looks fab in that cobalt blue trouser suit. She looks so polished.

gingercat02 · 09/04/2024 22:53

The green dress would be OK without the doughnut, I think

KnickerlessParsons · 09/04/2024 23:58

The green circle looks like a cover for a PEG feeding tube!

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/04/2024 06:22

The green dress would be nice without what looks like a colostomy bag! I remember the Huescar wedding - the groom looked very dashing and like he was about to go off to fight at the Battle of Waterloo!

The bride’s dress is a bit retro isn’t it? I’ve seen pictures of weddings from the 60s with similar dresses.

eggandonion · 10/04/2024 09:57

Not one of the better dressed weddings!
Im sure they all had a lovely time though which is the main thing.

Alondra · 10/04/2024 10:39

There's been serious criticism in Spain regarding the changes in the dress made by the bride. The original dress was made for Teresa Borbon Dos Sicilas, the grandmother of the bride, by Pedro Rodriguez, a top Spanish designer in the early 1900s. His dresses were exceptionally cut, handstitched and using the best fabrics available

The bride's mother, Beatriz, made very small alterations to the dress neckline when she married in 1995 but didn't alter the design. Unfortunately, her daughter has destroyed the dress by introducing so many changes, including adding fabric cheaper fabric to the detachable train, that the original design is lost.

Thanks, @Alondra , that's interesting. It looks as if the neckline is raised and a roll or fold added. The sleeves seem to have height and volume added. The original fabric looks beautiful.

Alondra · 10/04/2024 10:54

The fabric is a heavy silk brocade handstitched with silver thread that, even today, it's not easy to get from top designers unless you pay huge amounts of money.

As it's been said in Spain, Teresa "murdered" the dress 😁

Maireas · 10/04/2024 11:00

That's a shame! Yes, the fabric looks amazing.

I don’t like the new neckline of the wedding dress. That roll around it looks odd.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 10/04/2024 13:28

To me, it looks like she made it herself from a Butterick pattern from 1975. The previous two iterations were beautiful, making the gorgeous fabric the star of the dress.

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/04/2024 13:43

The original and second iteration of the dress look less dated than the most recent one!

I agree. It looks a bit like an embroidery hoop has been sewn in to it

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/04/2024 15:16

In royal baby news, Rania is soon to be the world’s most glamorous grandmother as Rajwa is pregnant!

Maireas · 10/04/2024 16:32

Goodness! She certainly will be a glamorous granny!

Here's Max in Amsterdam. She's wearing dark blue Oscar de la Renta, with a humongous flower motif! I think the shape and cut of the dress is lovely.

Va va voom 💗

It looks like a “hack” I’ve been bombarded with in reels on instagram, to cinch a top or dress in at the waist. Hold a plastic bangle on the outside of the fabric where you want the cinching to be, and then go to inside of the garment and loop an elastic hair tie around the bangle until it’s tight.

You then have a hoop of fabric on the inside of the dress (looking exactly like on the green dress above!), and a tightly gathered section on the outside.

I can’t say it struck me a design feature I’d want to be visible…!

gingercat02 · 10/04/2024 19:47

Love Max's dress, but I'm not sure the hat works with it. It looks too heavy or wintery.
