Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

I grew up in Northern Ireland, so there are totally different connotations to me.

I thought they landed at Hastings though.

Lots of awful history there for sure. He wasn't a good man.

justasking William of Orange was a Dutch prince who married Mary, James VII's daughter. They ruled jointly in the late 1600s till her death, though he spent most of his time fighting against France and being terrible in Ireland.

"The Battle Of Hastings by Marriott Edgar - Famous poems, famous poets. - All Poetry" https://allpoetry.com/The-Battle-Of-Hastings

I recited this poem in school when I was ten. Came from a book my father had as a child. I still have the book. Makes me smile to this day.

The Battle Of Hastings by Marriott Edgar

Comments & analysis: I'll tell of the Battle of Hastings, As happened in days long gone by, When Duke William

I thought they landed at Hastings though.

That was William of Normandy, 1066.
William and Mary were the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

I thought they landed at Hastings though.

That's Wiliam the Conqueror. 1066, Hastings
The other one is best known for 1690, Battle of the Boyne, against King James

I've never researched that far back in history, shall go a digging. Thank you.

Daily mail has an article about Princess Eugenie's improvement in style over the last 20 years. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13209509/Eugenie-20-moments-turning-point-wedding-day.html I personally think its Beatrice that has improved more, and some of the outfits they have highlighted are definitely not 'epitome of sophistication'. However I do like her taste in shoes in almost all of these pictures.

Princess Eugenie has been transformed into the epitome of style

It wasn't just the bride and groom exerting global fascination at the April wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011. Remember the York Princesses, Beatrice and Eugenie - and their hats?

Maireas · 05/04/2024 12:15

I agree, and think Beatrice has really found her style. Both women have tried various stylists, but I think Beatrice's has really created some great looks.
I like some of Eugenie's on there, particularly the red dress.

OP posts:
justasking111 · 05/04/2024 12:40

Eugenie like Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe or Dita Von teese has an hour glass figure . She has a bosom and hips. Looks way better when wearing clothes that account for this rather than the cutesy mini dresses. They don't suit Zara either.

Dress for your shape not fashion is my advice.

Maireas · 05/04/2024 12:42

Yes, those straight mini dresses don't suit her. She needs to flatter her shape.

OP posts:
LadyEloise1 · 05/04/2024 15:31

You would think she would have amongst the best stylists in the world to help her.
I agree with @justasking111 and with @Maireas that those high necked dresses suit neither Eugenie nor Zara as they are more hour glass in shape.
Beatrice has upped her game since Edoardo ( whom I personally amn't a fan of - explained way back on another thread ) came on the scene.

Eaumyword · 05/04/2024 16:19

Yeah, the odd outfit Eug wears is nice but I don't see her as a fashion icon. Definitely should ignore trends and go for what suits her womanly shape.
Bea on the other hand has I agree, upped her style since Edo.
Both women looked gorgeous on their wedding days in different ways.

LadyEloise1 · 05/04/2024 16:54

I agree they both looked lovely on their wedding days. I loved Eugenie's dress etc.
I wasn't so keen on B's but it was a fabulous idea to use her granny's dress etc.

DuchessOfPort · 05/04/2024 18:54

Beatrice looks great in photos, her fashion is much more “now”, but she has lost a fair bit of weight which helps the look she goes for. Euge definitely picks her own stuff (I’m guessing but surely) but she has great hits when they’re hits. That red dress with the drapey neck. I think her smile is her greatest asset.

Maireas · 05/04/2024 19:04

Yes, I think at one point their clothes "wore them" so to speak. A great stylist will help you to find clothes that suit you without dominating, if that makes sense. So wear a piece because it works for you, rather than it being fashionable.

My dhs cousin wears high necklines all the time. She has to do a lot of work presentations...I wonder if it is a way of avoiding wardrobe malfunctions?
Trinny and Susannah always advised against them for the well endowed ladies.

Laiste · 06/04/2024 11:18

Lovely thread 🙂
I was very moved seeing Catherine doing her speech. I was watching her hands working in her lap ... the tension in them. I just wanted to give her a hug!

I'm coming out of long time lurk to say looking at the Easter Church going photos it's really hit me how lacking we (our RF) are in terms of glamour now 😔Without Catherine there it's very ... i don't want to say boring .... staid.

The downside of the slimmed down monarchy i guess.

Laiste · 06/04/2024 11:21

Re: high necklines; i noticed in Next the other day there were a few pie crust blouse necklines poking out of jumpers! Very Lady Di iirc ...

Oh, that takes me back! Happy days. All we need are corduroy knickerbockers and flat court shoes..

OP posts:
Eaumyword · 06/04/2024 15:14

Ooh @Maireas or velvet knickerbockers! Thought I was the bees knees 🤭
You're right @Laiste we are a bit lacking in the style stakes currently. Hopefully Kate will be back at the helm soon.

ashtyler · 06/04/2024 15:24

Some of our favourite Royal wedding gowns are in this list!

I found it quite amusing that the thread was titled “lesser known royal wedding dresses” but then it was ones we have discussed here at length 😂

I almost didn’t recognise Max & Wax
