a raincoat which has a feminine shape

I thought I'd found the perfect raincoat - Didrickson's. Loved the colours and thought I loved the shapes, But when I tried them on they did what all raincoats seem to do on women (or this woman at least!) - gave me a boxy or rectangular shape. Other than a trench coat are there any more tailored looking raincoats out there? Don;t need insulation - just waterproofedness. For dog walking or walking around towns and cities., I want practical but with feminine, shaped tailoring. Any suggestions welcome x

There is a Rains one with a tie belt..... not a huge choice of colours, though. Belted also in Protected Species

faffadoodledo · 16/03/2024 16:46

Trying to avoid trenches and tie belts @grannysbay. Want to keep it simple. But with a hint of structured waist. I think I'm searching for a unicorn!

I have an M&S good move one which has elastic pulleys inside on the waist, so you can draw it in without having something tied

ISeeTheLight · 16/03/2024 16:59

Rain Sisters are lovely. Not cheap but very nice.

Longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller · 16/03/2024 17:01

My sister has a knee-length Joules raincoat with a drawstring waist, no tie belt.

faffadoodledo · 16/03/2024 17:23

Ooo that one looks great @NameChangePropertyAdvice
I can spend on this - I wear outdoors clothes a lot, and am sick of looking shapeless. Off to investigate.....

Hobbs

NameChangePropertyAdvice · 16/03/2024 17:32

They're brilliant quality and properly waterproof @faffadoodledo - I had one that shape for many years and now have a shorter, straighter one which I also love but didn't fit your brief. Good luck! x

I have a couple of raincoats from sweaty betty that I love because they have an adjustable drawstring waist which gives a nice feminine shape. I find them to be cut very flatteringly too.

Illpickthatup · 16/03/2024 18:18

Rain sisters have gorgeous coats.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 16/03/2024 18:25

I have a Columbia one that has an internal adjustable drawstring around the waist.

faffadoodledo · 16/03/2024 18:27

Wow @Illpickthatup that takes feminine to another level!

Even my Primark one has a drawstring inside at the waist too.

Do your dogs really care??

I live in a very wet, wild and windy part of Scotland and would not be without a proper waterproof. Didricksons have filled the bill admirably for many years. Whatever their shape - and - as any fule know (to quote Molesworth) - it's the shape you are in underneath the outer casings that matters. (Or,even more important, the esteem that you and your DH/DP/DPartner hold you in WHATEVER you wear. ) FWIW Didricksons DO come with drawstring waist if that's important to you. https://www.newforestclothing.co.uk/products/didriksons So do many other brands, of course.

Dear oh dear, it doesnt need some philosophical navel gazing, OP just wants to look stylish and not like a lump.

OP I have a little rain jacket with a draw string waist, makes all the difference

RockingAmadeus · 16/03/2024 18:59

I have a Rains Long jacket it’s lovely, I do find it runs small though. I would recommend the Primark Rain jacket, it has a drawstring waist and great value for money.

soupfiend · 16/03/2024 19:03

Blimey, they are fantastic coats

faffadoodledo · 16/03/2024 19:06

@nameXname I live in very damp west cornwall - there's a reason it's so green! So like you I know all about wet weather. I loved Didricksons in theory but the reality was their coats really did nothing for me when they arrived. I wear good boots for walking g and just want something I feel nice in coat wise.
And I have a very stylish dog ;)

I have this one (OOS at John Lewis now). I feel nice in it, it doesn't have a waist, but it's pretty and lightweight.

beefmassaman · 16/03/2024 19:44

I have the Jacobsen one in Chateau Grey. Can highly recommend.

TheSqirrelAteMySalad · 16/03/2024 19:46

I don't have one but Rainsisters always look lovely.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/03/2024 19:49
