£1,500 on a wedding dress…

I know the answer is your money, it’s up to you.

It made me feel like a goddess… Third marriage, aged 46, seems like a ridiculous idea. Would you do it? Tried cheaper, a couple more high street options on order but this was the one…

In my defence, first wedding was a rental dress, second no new clothes, just dressed up. Both were situational marriages, this one is a proper one for love, after spending almost 20 years together.

If you can afford it then go for it! Mine was over £1300 15 years ago. I didn’t regret it one bit.

ohanamechange · 12/03/2024 21:13

Do it. If it made you feel that great, it's meant to be.

Readthelastpagefirst · 12/03/2024 21:13

Do it. It'll make you feel fabulous. I did, no regrets, in fact the dress is so beautiful that I just go and look at it in the wardrobe sometimes (20 years on!).

Precipice · 12/03/2024 21:15

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on something I'd only wear once and couldn't repurpose.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/03/2024 21:17

Do it. Your day, your dress. If it makes you feel fabulous, go for it.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/03/2024 21:21

I spent £1200 on mine 25 years ago. It was an insane amount to spend TBH but that would be £2,150 now according to the BofE inflation calculator so more than your dress so I say go for it as long as you can afford it (I could).

MindHowYouGoes · 12/03/2024 21:24

if you have the money then hell yeah do it! You only live once and you should get it if it makes you happy.

MrWilyFoxIsBack · 12/03/2024 21:27

I wouldn’t, but I’m not you. No one can give you permission to spend this money - if you want to, then spend it. Feeling like a goddess for a day sounds pretty awesome to me.

merrymelodies · 12/03/2024 21:30

Not many of us have the occasion to dress up anymore. Wearing a beautiful dress that makes you happy is a physical celebration of your love. Do it!

potaytopotahto33 · 12/03/2024 21:31

OP there are loads of 'frivolous' things you can spend the money on. A wedding is just one of them. it's no better or worse than anything else, e.g. a holiday. If you can afford it, buy it!

I spent very little on mine - but we'd just bought a house and were skint. If I had the money I'd have splurged.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 12/03/2024 21:53

It's your money but definite No from me. I would have no qualms on spending £1,500 on a fabulous dress to wear to get married in- which I'd wear at every opportunity to dress up afterwards.

I spent £2,000 on a jacket and skirt last year just because they were fabulous. And I wear them , together or separate, a lot, but a one off dress? No.

I didn't have and didn't want , a "wedding dress". It's not so much the cost - more I don't see the attraction of having something beautiful which you can't wear.

determinedtomakethiswork · 12/03/2024 21:56

Is it something you could ever wear again?

Hoplolly · 12/03/2024 21:59

My first was £2500 (over 15 years ago) my second was £1300. I don't regret a thing!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 12/03/2024 22:00

Do it.

nothing more to say really!

Mmmkaay · 12/03/2024 22:00

Why is nobody saying 'we need to see the dress' ?!?! You're all rubbish. I couldn't possibly comment without seeing the dress I'm afraid 😂

idontlikealdi · 12/03/2024 22:02

I paid £2k for mine 20 ears ago. If you can afford it why not? I sold mine on Vinted last year for £50 because I don't have storage space. No regrets.

Va Va Voom! That's stunning and as you're a size 8, you'll look a million dollars in it.

You've been together 20 years so that's only £75 a year - go for it!
