£1,500 on a wedding dress…

I know the answer is your money, it’s up to you.

It made me feel like a goddess… Third marriage, aged 46, seems like a ridiculous idea. Would you do it? Tried cheaper, a couple more high street options on order but this was the one…

In my defence, first wedding was a rental dress, second no new clothes, just dressed up. Both were situational marriages, this one is a proper one for love, after spending almost 20 years together.

I also have this one on order, much cheaper, but if it does not fit, I am out of excuses…

If you can afford it, fill your bloody boots.

My beloved Dad bought my wedding dress. If I could fit into it id wear it to Sainsbury's because it was a total dream.

Vitriolinsanity · 12/03/2024 22:51

And it's a fabulous dress.

It's totally Sofia Vergara who I'm hoping to come back as in my next life.

TheFlis · 12/03/2024 22:52

Mine was £2k and I bloody loved it, no regrets!

NewName24 · 12/03/2024 22:55

Precipice · 12/03/2024 21:15

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on something I'd only wear once and couldn't repurpose.

Me neither.
I just couldn't.

I know we are all in different financial circumstances. But seriously, this is a dress, and a dress you aren't then going to be to wear again for another occasion later.

LadyBird1973 · 12/03/2024 22:56

Given that you spent nothing significant on your first 2 wedding dresses, if you imagine you'd split the cost of this dress over all 3 weddings you'll have had in total, it's bargainous really - only £500!

WashableVelvet · 12/03/2024 23:01

I spent £200 on mine - made me feel like a goddess. Second hand! I fretted that I should have shopped ‘properly’ because it was a big church wedding and DH was spending much more 😂 but i loved that dress and its acres of raw silk. You’re just fretting in the other direction - it’s ok to let yourself have something lovely even if you don’t feel you’re doing something quite ‘correctly’.

Levithecat · 12/03/2024 23:30

Oh do it! I scrimped on mine and really regretted it. If there was a time (divorced!) I would get whatever made me feel my absolute best.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 12/03/2024 23:42

Get the dress!

Marblessolveeverything · 12/03/2024 23:46

YOLO, buy the dress.

Onand · 12/03/2024 23:47

That’s not bad at all, do it!

tenpoundpombear · 12/03/2024 23:48

Oh bloody hell, do it!

tenpoundpombear · 12/03/2024 23:50

determinedtomakethiswork · 12/03/2024 21:56

Is it something you could ever wear again?

I hope not. The majority of wedding dresses aren't!

minipie · 12/03/2024 23:53

I was going to say no but that is an AMAZING dress. Wow. I want it, and I’m not getting married <ponders divorce just for new wedding dress>

easilydistracted1 · 12/03/2024 23:54

Yes yes yes buy it. I got married (to a man) in a purple second hand bridesmaid dress the first time. Recently got married again and my wife chose a pretty traditional style and I found a dress in the which I tried on for fun while waiting for he to come out the changing room. Fell in love with it and that was that. Very white with lace and flowers and a long train. First time half the attendees had seen me in a dress and everyone was very surprised but it was perfect. Then we pogoed around the reception in our lace dresses hitched up and showed off our Dms. It was COVID times and made me realise life was way too short.

EconomyClassRockstar · 12/03/2024 23:55

Mine cost that 25 years ago so that's a yes from me. I've long since lost mine in house moves but the marriage is still going happily so that's all that matters.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/03/2024 04:09

When we got married 25 years ago, I picked a dressy which had been used for the promotional photo shoot so it was a lot cheaper than the full price, maybe £800/900. The actual cost would have been well over 2k, which was rather too pricey. My budget back then was absolute tops 1.5k.

If you can afford it, buy the dress you want! It’s beautiful.

Einevinefine · 13/03/2024 04:18

Say Yes to the Dress!
And I envy you being size 8!
Congratulations - hope you have a wonderful day!

Teddleshon · 13/03/2024 04:20

Do it - I spent ££££ on my wedding dress and now my daughter will be wearing it.

LunaNorth · 13/03/2024 04:24

Do it.

You’ll regret it if you don’t.

And if you’re bothered by this sort of thing, I’d say with a couple of alterations and a professional dye-job, you could totally wear it again.

Do it! Say yes to the dress!

Commonsense22 · 13/03/2024 06:11

I spent 1000 on having a dress custom made (not UK so was a lot) and don't regret it at all. It's the dress of a lifetime, do it.
I actually regret not splashing out more for my wedding.

Inyourwildestdreams · 13/03/2024 06:23

@ReadyForSeason I’m a big one for “why not” if you can afford it 🙈🤷🏻‍♀️ so I say go for it! 😂 Personally, a wedding is never something I could get into any debt for but if I could comfortably afford to pay for it then I’d do it!

It’s a gorgeous dress and I bet you look incredible in it 😊

Would you sell it in afterwards or keep it? I bet it would shorten perfectly into a lovely shorter dress that could come out for a meal every anniversary so you get that fabulous feeling every year 🤷🏻‍♀️ You could even have it dyed 😊

NoraLuka · 13/03/2024 06:37

I wouldn’t but it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, if you have the money and it would make you happy then go for it!

It’s a beautiful dress!

Elphamouche · 13/03/2024 08:27

Get the dress! Mine was £1250 in the sale. Everything I own is from primark, I don’t like shopping or wasting money on clothes. But I was not leaving without that dress.

buy the dress! Nothing else will compare.

Ultimate Girl Math 😁

My initial instinct was to say no way, but having seen THE DRESS it's a hell yeah from me.
